Oh, ...Someone else who has read and loved Jemima J! Oh, I just love that. I never have reread it, and it's been practically 15 years, but I still remember so well what a huge impact Jemima's story had on me. It was one of the first times I read a book featuring a young woman around my age, sharing similar feelings/issues. It made quite an impression. And I really loved the next 4 or 5 books from Green. But lately... nope. Sounds like I'm not alone, either. Ah well, luckily there are no shortage or other authors I love. :)Tanya @ Girl Plus Bookshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18357204133826428572noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8051174949483344057.post-68781252966529635022016-08-15T22:17:20.273-04:002016-08-15T22:17:20.273-04:00Jemima J is one of my all time faves but I tried h...Jemima J is one of my all time faves but I tried her last two releases and both were DNF for me. Sorry that this one didn't work for you but I totally understand what you're saying re: the snap decisions, that could seriously bum me out, too. That's what it felt like. "Once ...Hee hee! That's what it felt like. "Once upon a time, when I used to love Jane's novels..."

Chick lit was really big in the late 90's and early 2000's. Do you know the book (or movie) Bridget Jones's Diary? That's kind of considered the original chick lit. The books all centered on women (usually in their 20's), almost always British, dealing with romantic relationships and careers and friendships. The women always lived in big metropolitan areas (usually London or Dublin). The genre was huge for years and it's what introduced me to authors like Jane Green, Marian Keyes, Sophie Kinsella, and Lisa Jewell.

I agree that author's writing styles may change over the years - and sometimes that's not such a bad thing. But sometimes, like you said, it's so different and even the genre isn't the same and... meh. And sadly, with Jane Green, I feel like I'm reading about the same kind of character over and over again. Oh well, it's not like I don't have a ton of other authors and books just waiting for me! :)Tanya @ Girl Plus Bookshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18357204133826428572noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8051174949483344057.post-4703618976013298822016-08-13T18:37:08.874-04:002016-08-13T18:37:08.874-04:00This comment has been removed by the author.Tanya @ Girl Plus Bookshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18357204133826428572noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8051174949483344057.post-35751466401041979192016-08-13T18:07:48.259-04:002016-08-13T18:07:48.259-04:00You know, I didn't even try for a review copy....You know, I didn't even try for a review copy. That should have probably told me that I had pretty much written the author off but... I gave it one more try. *sigh* If you really want spoilers I'll DM you on Twitter. I AM DYING TANYA you kill me girl! What is chick lit though? I've honestly never heard that term used before! Thanks for the honest review! It's kind of a shame to love an author so much but find a book by them that just didn't do it for you. I know some author's writing style changes over the years, and sometimes its for the better, but more times than not I find that when one of my favorite authors starts to write differently or chooses a new genre, I tend to not like their writing as much. I'm not sure if its conformity and they are trying to write books that appeal to the masses, or if they are simply trying something new, but it's so disappointing! I totally feel for you on this one! Sorry to hear it was not a win for you!
Emily @ www.rabbitholereviews.com Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00923570666680506256noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8051174949483344057.post-56548662261884173032016-08-13T06:27:03.863-04:002016-08-13T06:27:03.863-04:00I have not seen one good review for this.
