- AN INSTANT ALL-TIME FAVORITE
I reserve 5 star ratings for those rare gems that captivated me from the very first page. These are books where I was completely engaged and whether it was the characters, the the story or the writing (most likely a combination of all three) I had an emotional connection and was truly impacted by it. I do not bestow 5 star ratings lightly.
- I ADORED THIS BOOK
I was completely drawn in and couldn't put it down. The writing, the characters, and the story are all done so well. I was connected to the characters and fully involved in the story. The author is probably on my auto-buy list. Near perfection.
- LOVED IT
I thoroughly enjoyed this one. The writing, characters and plot were all solid and made for a great reading experience. If this were part of a series I would definitely continue on. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this one.
- REALLY LIKED IT A LOT
I enjoyed this one and had no problem finishing it. The writing style was enjoyable but there may have been minor issues with character development or dialogue that had me wishing for a little more.
- LIKED IT
This was good but had elements that I felt could be improved. Possibly lacking in character development, unrealistic dialogue, or an unoriginal plot. Still worth reading but not a favorite.
- IT WAS OKAY
This was just... meh. I had issues with the writing style, underdeveloped characters and/or weak dialogue. I did not form any real connection with the characters and had to push myself to finish this one. I probably would not seek out anything else by this author.
- DID NOT LIKE IT
It is rare that I read I book I truly dislike. I know what I like and am adept at choosing those books. But sometimes it happens. I simply cannot connect with a story or its characters. It is likely I did not finish the book. It is exceedingly rare that I would review a book like this since I consider it unfair to rate/review a book I did not finish.

Most of the books I read fall within the 3-4.5 star range. Not because I love every book I read but because I know what I like and gravitate toward those books.
Obviously, reviews are extremely subjective and everyone is going to have their own opinion. It's fine if we have differing opinions about a book... but let's be nice about it. :)
