#BestReadsOf2020 Day 2 & Day 3: Best Swoon Worthy Hero and Best Thriller

It's that time again! One again Sophie at Beware of the Reader is kicking off December with daily prompts for all of the years' best reads. And this time she's joined by Bookstagrammers @sophiesreadingcorner, @pavlinamich, @eliz_white, and @utcabookblog. This is my third year participating and I'm excited to take part again.

Naturally, I'm already playing catch-up and we're only on Day 3. Ha! But I jump in and participate when I can and don't sweat it when I can't. Easy breezy. :)

DAY 2: BEST SWOON WORTHY HERO

I readily admit that most days I will not be sticking with one answer. I mean, being forced to pick just one of anything is cruel and unusual punishment. But I will play by the rules for this one.

My pick for best swoon worthy hero is Jonas from Lies and Lullabies. This guy was dealt quite a shock but was almost immediately all-in and willing to go the distance. He knew his lifestyle would make a relationship harder, but he did everything in his power to make up for that and be as present as he could. His desire to make his new-found family work made my heart swell.

DAY 3: BEST THRILLER

I don't often reach for thrillers, but when I do it's Lisa Jewell's brand of domestic drama/thriller that really does it for me.

When I read The Family Upstairs back in January, it was one of those books that really stayed with me. I found myself thinking about the characters and the events days, and even weeks, after I finished reading it. There were twists and turns and I was kept guessing and at the same time I felt completely enmeshed in the events as they unfolded.

HAVE YOU READ EITHER OF THESE BOOKS?
ARE YOU TAKING PART IN #BESTREADSOF2020?

  4. Picking just one book for all these categories has to be tough! I haven't read the thriller, but I do love a mystery/thriller that sticks with you.

    1. Jewell's books aren't typically action-packed thrillers, but I lover her style. Almost more like domestic dramas with a mystery element thrown in.

  7. The Family Upstairs is actually one that I own! I picked it up at some book conference or another, mostly for my mom, but then she liked it so I figured I'd give it a go... someday ha. Seeing it on your list makes me more eager to get to it! (Also I LOVE that cover, Idk what is with the off-putting cover on the one I have 😂)

    1. Isn't it crazy how a different cover can totally change your feelings about a book? It makes me feel shallow but whatever. LOL

  8. Nothing wrong with playing catch up. I’ve read neither of your choices but you’ve made me want to read The Family Upstairs, I’m always on the hunt for good thrillers.

    1. Jewell's thrillers are kind of quieter and not action-packed, but I love them!
