Top Ten Tuesday: Who, Me? (Random Facts About Me)

Top Ten Tuesday is an original feature/weekly meme
This week's Top Ten Tuesday theme is random facts about ourselves. I never get tired of reading random facts about people, or those tags where everyone answers a bunch of random personal questions, so I'll be in heaven checking out all the Top Ten posts today. But before I dash off to immerse myself in random facts about everyone else, here are some random facts about me.

random fact #1

I loathe coffee. Always have. Don't like the taste, don't like the smell. The emphasis placed on coffee and the utter dependency on it makes me equal parts confused and amused. The only time you'll ever see me with a Starbucks cup in hand is when I'm enjoying the occasional chai tea latte (usually iced). But coffee? NEVER.

random fact #2

Next fact is that I have no sweet tooth. None. I can do without chocolate and candy and cake and ice cream... whatever. Very, very rarely I'll have a little something but usually - nope. Does nothing for me and I'd rather have something salty/savory. (Cheese and crackers for the win.)

random fact #3

I looove musical theater. Wicked is a favorite, Mamma Mia is fun... but Phantom... Phantom of the Opera holds a piece of my heart. I am totally enamored of the story and the show and I can totally geek out over it. One of my most surreal moments was sitting in Her Majesty's Theatre in London's West End watching the production of Phantom. Life. Made.

random fact #4

I'm a total morning person. Yes, I'm one of those people. And yes I know it can be a bit obnoxious. But I can't help it. My internal clock has me up and at 'em by 5:15 every morning, pretty much seven days a week. The flipside of this is that by 9 PM I am done. Lights out. See ya in 8 hours or so. I don't know how you night owls do it.

random fact #5

I always review books *immediately* after finishing them. I'm already starting to formulate my thoughts into a review as I'm closing the book. Buuut, for some reason I've been totally slacking on this lately and it's weirding me out. I'm practically obsessive about reviewing but right now I'm about, um, fifteen books behind. Just thinking about is stressing me out so let's move on...

random fact #6

I am practically phobic when it comes to lizards. Like, lose-my-mind phobic. Unfortunately, here in Florida, the mean little freaks are everywhere so, yeah... I have to deal.

random fact #7

I've been with the same company for almost 25 years. (Yeah, I started when I was about seven. 😉) For the last 12 of those years I've been the EA to the Board of Directors. I *love* my job. I work for three amazing people that I respect and admire, the atmosphere is usually fairly low-key, and I love what I do.

random fact #8

So I'm not some child-hating shrew but I've never wanted kids of my own. Ever. I've always known that the motherhood thing was not for me. I love the freedom of picking up and going whenever we want, I love that my home is never messy and always peaceful, I love grown-up vacations and disposable income, and I get to be the star of my own life and not take a supporting role to a little human's needs. 😉 My stance is that to live in my house you must be able to fend for yourself - and that means no pets, no plants, no kids. #sorrynotsorry

random fact #9

I had a planned elopement. It didn't start out that way. But it didn't take long into the planning for me to realize that, while I wanted to be married, I cared nothing about a wedding. So we scrapped the wedding plans, told everyone we were going on vacation, and came back married. That was 17 years ago and I've never regretted doing it our way.

random fact #10

I rarely ever watch TV. On occasion I watch Game of Thrones with my husband but that's the extent of my TV watching. I have zero interest in reality shows (which seems to make up 90% of what's on) and there's nothing I'm interested enough in to follow week after week. I hate feeling tied to the TV. I don't have Netflix, don't own a DVR and I am completely out of the loop with what's on TV and popular. When people start talking about the latest episode of whatever I totally zone out. 💤💤💤

Can you relate to any of these?
Tell me a random fact about you... I wanna know! 😊

  1. Oh man, I LOVE coffee! I often joke that you can't get through law school without it hahaa

I'm a morning person, too (because of coffee, ha!)

    ♥ these facts!!

    1. Yeah, I know I'm totally in the minority with the coffee thing. :)
And are you in law school? If so, I don't think I ever knew that. Color me impressed, girl!

  2. I think we may be opposites lol. I love coffee, tv, would have a gaggle of kids if I had more $$ and help and had an obnoxious (but great) wedding with lots of people. I do love musical theatre too and am lucky enough to get to go to broadway a lot (not lately but overall). Wicked was amazing but Rent will always be my favorite. I am a forced morning person up by 5am everyday for the last 4 or so years. I've gotten used to it though but the coffee helps with that!!! Fun facts :)

    1. LOL We really are opposites, huh? :) I've yet to actually see a show on Broadway (have never been to NYC) but that is such a dream. And I've never seen Rent. Adding that to my bucket list!

  3. I'm completely with you on #1 - I hate coffee, don't mind the smell but I definitely don't get the appeal!

Oh my word, I can't believe you're awake at 5:15 every day! It takes two alarms (sometimes 3) to wake me up in the morning if I have to get up before 9am. I'm a little jealous!

    Great post :)

    1. Whoa, you may officially be the only other person I know that actually dislikes coffee. LOL

Now you're someone who likes her sleep! :) Two and three alarms to get up by 9 AM. By that time I've been at the office for over an hour and have been up for almost 4 hours. Ha! I guess so many years of doing that have just become habit.

  4. I do not like coffee either. How did we not come across that topic?
I also don't care for chocolate much. I mean there are occasions but not many. And as for sweets I could do without cakes and cookies and candy, but I cannot do without ice cream LOL

    1. LOL I know, right? Another thing we have in common.
I was laughing at dinner last night because (for the first time in forever) I had dessert. And on the very day I posted about how infrequently I bother with sweets. Ha!
But it wasn't ice cream... too bad for me. :)

  5. Wow. We have alot in common! Except the job thing. I'm looking to improve that situation...hopefully! Quit drinking coffee 13 years ago or so and it's one of the best things I ever did. I think my body must have been shaking all the time, I just didn't notice! I am a tea drinker now, one cup of Darjeeling in the morning and green tea throughout the day. :) Sweets. I still like 'em, but I'm not addicted. We unhooked out TV 15 years ago. Don't miss it. Like you, I"m totally out of the loop when that is the topic of conversation. Also a morning person, though as I get older, I'm able to sleep late more often...when I can, that is! I'm an admin assistant. Yeah...know all about that fire stuff! Married twice--no wedding--ever! Nice listing!

    1. Amazing that you were even able to quit the coffee, Lynn! I bet your body went into total withdrawal for a while there. I've had friends just try to cut back and totally caved. I'd much rather have tea. :) We still have one TV but I could probably do without it. The husband watches the news once in a while but usually just gets that online anyway. Once in a while a movie is nice but I could just do that on my iPad. Ha! Ah, so you totally get the job thing... our jobs are probably pretty similar. Thanks for stopping by Lynn!

  6. It's fun that we like each other so much even though we have nothing in common ;) I have to say though, I am kind of envious of your elopement! You look SO happy! I had wanted to do the same, got talked into the wedding.. and I think followed through BECAUSE of the wedding. Maybe had I stuck to my guns, I would be telling you about how I dodged a bullet 😂 I DO know what you mean about kids though! I always swore I never wanted them, but then caved to my biological clock. Don't get me wrong,I LOVE them and cannot even imagine not having them now but.... I feel you ;) There ARE perks, and don't let anyone ever tell you differently!

But the coffee and the being a morning person... well now you've lost me bwhahaha.

    1. Crazy, huh? So little in common (at least with this stuff) and yet I still think you're awesome. :) Oh dear, that's a shame about the wedding. But I've heard of that before - like things get so far along that you feel like you have to go with it at some point. Luckily, my issue was never with the guy (I knew I'd found an absolute angel) but I had less than no interest in a wedding. So off we went. And it was wonderful. And yeah, there are perks to no kids. LOL My one sister sometimes asks if I think I'll ever regret it or miss it and my answer is always "how can I miss what I never had?" I'll leave all the coffee to you, my friend. :)

  7. I think i just yelled at my computer when I read the part about you not liking coffee Tanya! I LIVE Off of it! I never liked it until I started working at my local coffee shop in high school, and ever since I've been addicted. Do you drink tea at all? I feel like if I didn't drink coffee I would still need to drink some sort of drink with caffeine. I LOVE Tea too!
and WHAT! can you share your secrets with me about not liking sweets?! I have the WORST sweet tooth. there's a quote from Inkheart (one of my favorite books) by Cornelia Funke that I've always thought fit me well. When she's talking about her dad she says Mo is so addicted to chocolate, no stale chocolate Santa Clause was safe in their house. That is totally me!
I am also extremely jealous of the fact that you review books right away because I am trying to be better about that! The problem I run into is that I don't do that and some of the details or thoughts I had while reading it tend to escape me the longer I wait to write my review, especially if I've started reading a new book right away.
I loved reading your post Tanya! and I was laughing reading Shannon's post about you being a morning person lol!

    1. LOL Sorry to shock you so badly, Emily! :) But me and coffee... not friends. Usually in the mornings I'll stop by McD's and get a large sweet iced tea. That's my caffeine/sugar fix in the morning. And bonus, it usually lasts me till lunch. Ha! If I drink hot tea it's typically a chai tea. But mostly I drink sweet iced tea. And the sweets thing, yeah I've always been that way. Even as a kid I wasn't all spazzed out over candy and stuff. But it's not like I don't have other vices! I totally overdo it on stuff like chips and pasta and potatoes. Bring on the carbs! I wish I could snap out of this phase of not reviewing! I've always been totally on top of it and now I am so behind. Eeek!

  8. Such awesome and interesting facts you shared!
HOW DOES ONE DISLIKE SWEETS? I shall never understand that, because I can't live a day without them. And I know damn well that's not healthy.
Whenever I tell someone who doesn't know me really well that I'm tired, they instantly recommend coffee as a solution and are surprised to learn that I can't stand it. It's really strange, but I actually like the smell of coffee. So much so that sometimes I try coffee again just to see if I was wrong the other times.
Gosh, I HATE lizards! Frogs, too. That said I'm truly phobic about snails and slugs. UGH, THEY'RE SO DISGUSTING.

    1. LOL I know, I know! Everyone thinks it's so weird that I don't like sweets. I have a friend who tells me that she's traumatized every time I say that. :) I recently tried a cappuccino thinking it might be an acceptable form of coffee but... nope! Just don't like it! Oh, frogs and snails and slugs - ugh! Can't stand them! Almost as bad as lizards. Ack!

  9. I always hated coffee - like you I didn't even like the smell. But I started drinking it about two years ago (at age 40!) because I NEEDED it to wake up. (Unlike you, I'm not a morning person. At all.) But now I really like it and I'm addicted. Go figure!

  10. I'm not much of a coffee person. I think it's too bitter. I do like a cappuccino though, 'cause its sweet and milky two things I don't need lol.

I also review immediately after I read, if I don't I got nada--hence my lonely blog.

    1. I get it. If I ever get a hot drink it's a chai tea latte. I might as well order a cup of milk and sugar. Ha! And I have *got* to get back into my reviewing groove!
