Girl Plus Books: On Hiatus

hiᐧaᐧtus: A temporary gap, pause, break, or absence

Girl Plus Books is going on hiatus. Frankly, I haven't been finding much joy in blogging for a while, so rather than start to view this as a chore, I am going to step away for a bit.

I want to read for the sheer pleasure of reading, with no strings attached. No taking notes as I read, because I am already mentally crafting a review. No dissecting plots and character motivations. No coming up with new ways to explain why I liked a book. No ARC's and reading on a deadline.

I want to read at my own pace (no matter how slow that may be 😉), put the book down, then pick up the next book and start reading again. No writing, no reviewing, no explaining or critiquing. That's what I need right now.

At some point I will miss the discourse, and the desire to get chatty about what I'm reading will return. But until then I am taking a break. For now, I'm just going to read.

Until next time, take care and I will see you soon.

  3. I hear ya! I've been trying to get back into blogging after our trip last week and it has been hard. I read a couple books while we were away and I'm struggling to write reviews - trying to convince myself that I don't need to if I don't want to! Happy reading!

    1. Angela - Isn't it crazy how we feel like we have to review every single book? I have to remind myself that there was a time that I just read and never thoughts about reviews at all. LOL

  8. Enjoy your break! While I'll selfishly miss your reviews and perspective, I totally understand how doing this can become a grind that sucks away the whole reason we started blogging in the first place. It should be fun! I've been on hiatus from my Bookstagram for several months now, and still don't know if I'll return. Whatever you choose, I hope you find that love of reading for fun again. I've certainly appreciated your friendship over the years!

    1. Thanks so much for the nice comment, Ethan. :) Blogging is a lot to juggle - reading, writing reviews, drafting posts, replying to comments, visiting/commenting at other blogs. It's time consuming and actually takes a lot of time away from reading. So I don't have time to read because I'm blogging about reading. Ironic, right? LOL I appreciate your friendship, too, and I always enjoy your thoughtful, insightful reviews. I still plan to keep visiting my book blog friends as I can so I'm not disappearing for good!

  9. Enjoy your break, Tanya! :) I've definitely feeling a little bit out of it recently, not just with blogging but with being a functioning member of society in general. 😂 I've been taking it slow with blogging and booksta and everything as well. I'm going to miss your posts for a bit, but I hope you can recharge and enjoy all of your reads stress-free. <3

  14. Good for you for taking a break! The only thing I really miss about blogging is talking books with everyone. I've been too busy lately to pop onto blogs and comment, but I like that there is the option.

  15. I feel this lol I haven't reviewed in ages so that's been great but the urge to blog is still a struggle.
I hope you come back in some capacity but I also get if you don't.
