The Sunday Post #32

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Caffeinated Book Reviewer.
It's a chance to share news - a post to recap the past week on your blog,
showcase books and things we have received, and share news about what is
coming up on your blog in the week ahead. You can find the info here:

My joy in last week's Sunday Post over the slightly cooler fall temps was short-lived. It was back in the 80's all this past week. *sigh*

Last Sunday I mentioned how it was the 25th anniversary of my first date with my husband. Well, two days later was my 25th anniversary at the company where I work. (Apparently 1991 was a big year for me. LOL) There was a presentation at the office on Friday with speeches and two of the former Board members (my former bosses) came and also spoke on my behalf. It was pretty overwhelming and humbling. I mean, standing in front of a big room full of people while nice things are said about you... yeah, overwhelming. :)

Lastly, congrats to the winners of Freebie Friday #04! I gave a hint in last week's Sunday Post that there would be more than one winner. Instead there were SEVEN WINNERS! :) So congrats to Brandee, Grace, Shannon, Nicole, Gen, Nicki and Lauren. Freebie Friday is going on a little hiatus for now while I build the book selection back up a bit. Thanks to everyone who has entered the giveaways! I have fun doing them and sending books off to new homes.

Monday, October 24: On Monday I shared a review of Hard to Fall by Marquita Valentine. It's the fourth book in the Take the Fall companion series but could be read as a stand alone. I had a problem with the conflict that was resolved in the blink of an eye at the end but otherwise I enjoyed Hayden and Saylor's story.

Tuesday, October 25: This week's Top Ten Tuesday theme was a Halloween/Fall freebie so I went with book covers that made me think of autumn or Halloween or just generally fit the theme (in some way known only to me).

Thursday, October 27: I finished the audio book of Simon vs. the Homo Sapiens Agenda last week so when That's What He Said Thursday rolled around I knew I wanted to share a quote from Simon. I love the quote I chose and I had so much fun making the graphic. Definitely one of my favorite That's What He Said Thursday's. ♥

Finished:
The Deal - Elle Kennedy
Simon vs. the Homo Sapiens Agenda (Audio) - Becky Albertalli
Addicted to You - Renita Pizzitola

Current
A Thousand Boy Kisses - Tillie Cole
Forever in Blue: The Fourth Summer of the Sisterhood (Audio) - Ann Brashares

PHYSICAL BOOKS:
I read an ARC of One True Loves earlier this year and was blown away. Definitely one of my favorites of the year. I decided I needed a hard copy... of course.

One True Loves - Taylor Jenkins Reid

KINDLE BOOKS:
I've had my eye on this series ever since I read Him by Sarina Bowen (and Elle Kennedy) earlier this year. And with my friend Sarah recently gushing about it I went ahead and one-clicked all three books. I'm super excited to read these!

Bittersweet - Sarina Bowen
Steadfast - Sarina Bowen
Keepsake - Sarina Bowen

How was your week? Any new books? Any news to share?
You know I want to hear about it! :)

  3. I still have to read One True Loves but I adored Maybe in Another Life so I need to read it soon. Congrats on both your anniversaries! It was lovely that the company marked the day for you, even if you were embarrassed, it was still nice to be valued.

    1. One True Loves was the first I'd read by Carlino and I just fell in love with it. I'm so excited to read all her others.

  4. Boo! The temps went up here too. It just doesn't feel at all like fall.
Congrats on 25 years at your job. What a lovely event your workplace put together for you! Not many companies are bothered with niceties like that anymore.
I look forward to knowing what you thought of Simon and the Home Sapiens Agenda. I loved the wit and humor, but took issues with a couple of over the top stereotypes. I am sooooo in the minority. I know this about myself.

    1. Thanks - it really is a wonderful place to work and they definitely are appreciative of the employees. I've definitely been at places where that wasn't the case.
I truly loved Simon vs the Homo Sapiens Agenda. I didn't really notice any overt stereotypes but then again I was reading for sheer entertainment/enjoyment and wasn't being particularly critical.

  6. Happy anniversary- that's nice that they recognized you in that way! We're in the 50's here mostly it has definitely cooled down.

I enjoyed the Taylor Jenkins Reid book i read. Maybe in another Life I think was the title. Very good.

So jealous of your weather! Send some my way, will you? :)
I've heard great things about Maybe in Another Life. That might be the next one I pick up by TJR.

    1. Thanks Stacey! My actual job/position has changed several times over the last 25 years... but I've been with the same company the whole time. :)

So glad you loved One True Loves, too! I am so excited to read more from TJR!

  8. YES! Simon vs the Homosapiens Agenda kicked butt. I haven't listened to the audiobook, but I'm sure it's just as good as the real physical thing (that I've read). Ooh and HAPPY ANNIVERSARY! I think it's really sweet how things turned out, and having two of them so close to each other is so cool.

    1. So glad you loved Simon vs the Homo Sapiens Agenda, too! I'll be buying a physical copy soon because I know I'm going to want to read it again and again. They really did an excellent job with the audio version.

And thanks for the anniversary wishes, Fleur! That was definitely a very big week for me 25 years ago! :)

    1. LOL That pic always cracks me up. I want to be like those ladies when I'm old. :)
Thanks for the congrats! I think I made it sound like I've had the same *job* for 25 years which is not the case. Haha! I've been with the same company for 25 years but I've had several different positions over the years.

It was so fun doing multiple winners last week! :)

  12. I hope you didn't have anyone who said they were born in 1991! There's nothing worse than that to make one feel old! (I was born in the late 60s, so you have nothing to fear from me on that note!)

    1. LOL That would have been way too depressing, Deborah. Haha. Although, I know at least one of my commenters was born *after* 1991. But she had the good grace not say so here. :) Like you I was born in the late 60's (1968, to be exact) so we're probably almost exactly the same age!
