The Sunday Post #206

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Caffeinated Book Reviewer.
It's a chance to share news - a post to recap the past week on your blog,
showcase books and things we have received, and share news about what is
coming up on your blog in the week ahead. You can find the info here:

  • Week 6 of WFH is in the books. It's crazy that this feels normal now, and the thought of going into the office now seems foreign and a little unsettling.
  • It's official: The Husband is now retired. Thursday was his last day and he drove to the office and turned in his computer, company credit cards, etc. This has been planned since last summer but who knew that when the time came this would be our reality. I imagined a company dinner, and a celebration with family. None of that is happening now, obviously, but we'll do something when we're able.
  • My wedding anniversary (21 years) was Friday and it, too, was pretty subdued. We plan a trip every year in conjunction with our anniversary but we cancelled those plans over a month ago. Instead of laying poolside with a book in one hand and a fruity drink in the other, I was up to my elbows in soapy water deep-cleaning the kitchen. LOL Better luck next year. :)
  • My younger sister gave us a scare on Friday when she had to go to the ER. She was having severe abdominal pain. I went and picked up my niece so she could go to the hospital. She was terrified that she would be alone but thankfully they allowed her husband to go in with her. After some tests they determined it was food poisoning. I've had mild cases of food poisoning before but what Terri had was pretty scary. Thank goodness she's feeling mostly better now.
  • This week's 80's music fix is an old favorite from Icicle Works.

  1. Congratz on the anniversary! I do hope you'll get a great celebration once were allowed to. And I'm glad that your sister is okay now, I can imagine you'd be scared to hear that she was on the ER..

I hope May brings you lots of sunshine, good books and love!

    1. I'm not sure if we'll do something late in the year or just wait until next year. I suppose we'll just wait and see how we feel as things change.

  2. I think any symptoms anyone gets right now are terrifying. My father is on his third round of antibiotics since this started, and this time they added steroids to his treatment to get the lungs cleared up quickly. I swear, I start to sweat every time he coughs. Glad it was only food poisoning, though it sounds like Terri was pretty miserable from it. Congrats to your hubs on the retirement (I'm jealous, since I will be working until I am in the grave), and happy 21 years! What an accomplishment! Hopefully you will be able to celebrate properly when this all ends

    1. She has us all pretty scared and I've never seen food poisoning cause such pain. They had to put her on morphine in the ER. Thank goodness that's all it was, though.

  4. Happy anniversary to you and your husband and happy retirement to Robert!
It'll feel super nice to celebrate both when this is over. :)
"When this is over..." I've lost count of how many times I say that in a day now! It feels like it'll never be over, lol, but I know it will.

Glad your sister is ok, enjoy those new books and I hope you have a good week!

    1. That seems to be the mantra these days, Nicci. I know it's all temporary but some days it feels like forever.

  5. You seem to have it all handled. You had some milestones this week. Happy Anniversary and happy retirement! The feelings are more important than a big celebration. But you can have that another time. Some great books - what would we do without them?

Take care, be kind and sensible!

    1. Thanks Anne! We still had a lovely anniversary and you are so right: the feelings are much bigger - and more important - than any celebration. :)

  6. Yay for your husband being officially retired, and happy anniversary! So sorry you didn't get to celebrate these milestones appropriately! Glad to hear your sister is okay! How frightening!

I need to catch up with Sarina Bowen's series! Hope you loved it. :)

  7. Maybe once all the restrictions are over you can have a big, combined retirement/anniversary celebration! Wow, I've had food poisoning before but never bad enough where I had to go to the hospital! Yikes!

    1. That would be great, Samantha. :)
And same here. I've had very mild cases of food poisoning but what my sister had was scary. They did a CT scan and said she had inflammation around her colon... it was bad. I felt so bad for her.

  8. Well Tanya you had quite the fright! Now I agree with you about this feeling like the new normal an doffice feeling alien! Let's hope that when the time comes to go to the office you'll go back to a clean house with a meal on the table thanks to your husband being retired now LOL

  9. I am glad that your sister is okay. That sounds scary! Congrats to your husband! I dream of the day that I can turn all of my stuff in and forget about going to work. We had planned to retire early but my husband's job loss last year ended those plans. Happy Anniversary to you! I will hit 21 years later this year and these seem to be the best years. I hope you have a wonderful week!

    1. Yeah, it seems like an odd time to be retiring but it's been planned since last summer so there didn't seem to be any reason to cancel it now. Still kind of strange.

  11. Happy Anniversary and congrats to your hubby on his retirement! I know what you mean about it feeling unsettling going back to the office. Friday my boss was talking about the plans to head back to the office and what it might be like, and I just wasn't feeling it at all.

  12. Happy anniversary! And happy retirement to your husband too, how cool. Bummer though that you can't celebrate in style. Hopefully you guys can make up for it when this craziness dies down some!

Glad your sister is doing okay. that sounds scary. I had food poisoning once and yeah- not a good time.

    Take care this week!

  13. HAPPY ANNIVERSARY!!!! That is amazing you two are at 21 years!! Hope your husband enjoys his retirement. I never lost my job thankfully through all of this so its just normal life for me. But I am sure it feels unsettling. Hope you enjoy the Melanie Harlow book....I need to try her out soon.

    1. Thanks Renee. :) My husband and I have both been working from home since mid-March so his retirement probably feels a little anti-climatic. LOL Hopefully we can have a real celebration sometime soon.

  14. I've had an e-book of Flow for ages! I don't know why I haven't read it before, but you're making me think I should read it sooner rather than later. It's crazy that your husband retired in the middle of a pandemic! What a weird world we live in right now. I hope you guys were able to celebrate heartily! ;) I'm glad your sister only had food poisoning and nothing more serious. <3

    1. Flow was fairly short (since it was a novella... duh) but it was such a great set-up for the story. I know, the virus pretty much wiped out any retirement fanfare. Poor guy.

  15. I haven't been to the office since January and I don't think I will until July. It's kind of sad because we've moved buildings so I'll never go to that location again.

Congrats to the husband! And congrats on your wedding anniversary- 21 years is wonderful. Our wedding anniversary is May 17, gotta figure out what we'll do.

    1. Wow, between maternity leave and quarantine it's going to feel truly bizarre when you return to the office. And not even the same office. :(

Hope you can manage to do something special for your anniversary. We got takeout from one of our favorite restaurants and ate in an empty parking lot while listening to the Sirius comedy channel. LOL

  17. Happy Anniversary! It just means you need to plan an even BETTER vacation next year to make up for the crap that is 2020. Congrats to your husband on retirement though! That's exciting. I'm glad your sister is doing okay and she didn't have to go to the ER alone. That's scary stuff!!!

  23. Congrats on your anniversary and husband's retirement! we were suppose to do vacation this month for my birthday and daughter's 6th grade graduation. It's a bummer that you had to cancel your trip. I'm glad your sister is ok. What a scare!

  24. Right? Isn't it weird how now the thought of working in an office is the weird one. I do hope to go back to the office at some point but I am perfectly happy in my makeshift home office until the time is right. Congrats on your husband's retirement and your anniversary. Hopefully, you can celebrate properly when this is all over.

    1. My boss just sent an email about plan to start returning to work once our city says it's okay. But they're taking it slowly. Fine by me because I am *not* in a rush to return to an office full of people. Ack!

  25. Congratulations to your husband! Too bad he couldn't have the real celebration, but the best part is he's done! I know how you feel (sort of) on the anniversary, we just celebrated our 15th on April 24th and I had hope to do something special. We did nothing.

I'm glad your sister is OK - I'm sure that was scary, especially just knowing what's going on right now - the hospital isn't where anyone wants to be.

Hope you've had a great week!

    1. Happy (belated) anniversary to you! I imagine there will be a whole lot of delayed celebrations once this thing is over. :)

I know, the ER was the very last place she wanted to be but there wasn't really any option. They even had her on a morphine drip the pain was so bad. I was worried about her.
