WWW Wednesday #108 | September 29, 2021

WWW Wednesdays is hosted by Sam @ Taking on a World of Words
Just share your answers to three questions: What are you currently reading? What did you recently finish reading? What do you think you'll read next?

Fun fact: Working a full work-week after having two short weeks in a row is no joke. 😣
I mean, seriously, I'm expected to work five days in a row? Who do I file a complaint with?

WHAT ARE YOU CURRENTLY READING?

Currently reading: I've barely started The Charm Offensive - as in, I'm still on chapter one, the first night of filming - so I haven't formed much of an opinion yet. But I've totally enjoyed what I've read so far. I've had serious second-hand anxiety and embarrassment for Charlie and I can't wait to see how things develop between he and Dev.
Current progress: page 20 of 354

Currently listening: I was in the mood for a comfort read and when that's the case I often return to the world of The Others. The series by Anne Bishop is one of my all-time faves and listening to Alexandra Harris's narration of these characters is like coming back to old friends.
Current progress: 45%

WHAT DID YOU RECENTLY FINISH READING?

Recently read: As with most of Corinne's novels, A Moment for Us was almost un-put-downable. (That's totally a word, ask anyone.) I loved getting Josh and Delia's story and seeing how it unfolded was so bittersweet. This one generated some serious tears (I mean, it is Corinne Michaels), and the set up for the next (and final) book in the series was priceless. Review to come next week on release day.

Recently listened to: Okay, unpopular opinion time. Chloe Liese's books: I like them okay but I don't love them. Goodreads is loaded with 5 star ratings for her books but I guess they just don't click with me the same way they seem to for others. I'll explain further in my review, but I will say that I did really like both Axel and Rooney and this was my second favorite in the series.

WHAT DO YOU THINK YOU'LL READ NEXT?

Four Letter Word will likely be up next since I have it out from the library. And my Overdrive hold for Lisa Jewell's The Night She Disappeared just came in this morning so it will definitely be my next audiobook.

  4. It's ok to like and not love all the books everyone likes. I enjoy Liese's books. I admire the way she works in people with disabilities. Always done well. I heard Charm Offensive is great. Hope you enjoy it.

  5. haha the crime of it all in having you work a full week. It can be hard when you have shorter weeks and then work normal or longer hours. Hope it goes by quick for you.

It sounds like you really liked the Corinne Michaels and love those unputdownable books right? Hope you enjoy the J. Daniels

  6. Mercy Thompson is the series I go back to over and over again, but I do love The Others as well. I've re-read a couple in the series, too. I'll probably go back and re-read the first in her spin-off before the next book comes out.

I've only read one of Liese's books, Always Only You and enjoyed it, but I haven't had a strong desire to read the others.

    1. I see so many 5 star reviews for Liese's books and the stories are nice enough, but there are some aspects of her writing style that really grate!

  8. Going back to a full wokring week after some time off is hard! I feel your pain, I had that this week and I was not impressed, I'd had a streak of about 4 short weeks in a row, it was a shock to the system. I really want to read The Charm Offensive so hopefully it continued being good for you. I know everyone raves about Liese's books which is why on their TBR, it sucks you don't love them quite as much as everyone else. Sometimes it's how it is but never fun being the black sheep is it?

    1. Well, being the black sheep (bookishly speaking) is not new to me so I just roll with it. :) And The Charm Offensive was fantastic!

  11. Second-hand anxiety and embarrassment is the best and the worst LOL! I love it because it makes me realize how connected I am to a character but I don't want to feel those feelings lol! Here's hoping you end up enjoying the rest of The Charm Offensive!

    1. Yes! Great way to explain it, Jen. When I'm feeling that second-hand embarrassment it usually means I'm connecting to the character. And I was definitely connecting to both Charlie and Dev. The Charm Offensive was wonderful!
