The Stars Are on Our Side by Jennifer Hartmann is now live...
Now, two years later, she's ready to tell her story.
Through a series of interviews with a local writer, single mother Tabitha relives every harrowing detail of her trauma, haunted by the memory of the man she was held captive with and ultimately lost. As she confronts her demons, she finds solace in Gabe--the new man in her life who will do whatever it takes to prevent her from slipping back into the shadows.
But Gabe has his own troubled past that threatens to unravel their fragile connection. And just when Tabitha begins to believe in the possibility of new love and a fresh start, her world is turned upside down once again.
Gabe always tells her not to look down, to keep flying. But even stars fall...
And no one ever talks about the crash.
** The Stars Are on Our Side is an interconnected standalone in the world of Still Beating and Lotus, featuring fan-favorite characters Tabitha and Gabe. It is HIGHLY recommended that you read both Still Beating and Lotus prior to reading this book for the most effective reading experience.

She's lost in her own war. I'd like to think I'm a part of that war, but I can't allow myself to mull it over for too long. I laid down my sword five months ago when the girl I was helplessly falling for surrendered to her dark past.
I'm certain one can find dignity in most things, but there is no dignity in unrequited love. It's fucking painful.
I'll take your leftover pieces. I'll cherish those pieces. And I'll spend my whole damn life doing everything in my power to make your heart whole again.
That's what love is. It's finding that perfectly imperfect person that complements your heart, that brightens your shadows, that sees your broken, mismatched parts and wants to spend the rest of their life piecing them into place. And even if those pieces never fully fit, they love you anyway.

Tabitha's story sounds very traumatic!
ReplyDeleteLark - She went through a horrific time, and her trauma afterward completely changed her.
DeleteYou have me wanting to read this one, but also really scared to read this one! It sounds so emotional and dark. Great review.
ReplyDeleteDeanna - It's truly a tough read. It's best to read Still Beating and Lotus first (so the background makes more sense). Hartmann definitely doesn't shy away getting detailed and dark.
DeleteThis sounds so intense!
ReplyDeleteAngela - Intense is a good word for it!
DeleteSo glad you enjoyed this one! I know I will for sure be getting to it. I need to catch up on a couple of her others first.
ReplyDeleteAlison - I should have read Lotus first (the author's note even recommends it) but I plan to read it later this month.
DeleteI really must try to read Still Beating again! Maybe I'll go for the ebook instead of audio to be able to skip some parts that would be too hard for me!
ReplyDeleteSophie - Still Beating gutted me. But I adore that book. This one wasn't *quite* as bad but pretty close.
DeleteBooks featuring people who survived violence like this always get to me. Sounds really emotional
ReplyDeleteSam - This one was super emotional. And included a character death that I will never get over (not one of the main characters).
DeleteThis sounds like such an intense read!
ReplyDeleteIt really is, Suzanne! Hard to read at times, but so, so good.
DeleteThese characters and the reactions to their own traumas seem palpable. I love this kind of read!
ReplyDeleteEthan - It truly felt that way. As if the reader is experiencing the trauma and the aftermath right along with them.
DeleteThis sounds heart-wrenching and intense! I'd have to prep for an emotional journey like this!
ReplyDeleteRachel - You definitely have to be in the mood for this one. It's gritty and emotional, for sure.
DeleteWhat a beautiful review you have of this one here. I absolutely love how you described this story. I am very eager to read it soon.
ReplyDeleteLovely review darling!
Thank you, Renee! You are the sweetest. :)
DeleteI didn't realize that this was Gage and Tabitha's story. Yep, I am going to have to grab a copy of this one!
ReplyDeleteCarole - It's recommended that you also read Lotus before this one. I didn't and probably missed some of the connections, but it was still amazing!
DeleteThis story sounds like it would be an emotionally powerful book! But I read those content warnings, so grateful you listed them!, and I definitely would not be able to handle this book. Fabulous review, Tanya!
