THE WEEK IN REVIEW

Hi friends. For those that celebrate, I hope you had a wonderful Christmas. The week between Christmas and New Year's is always weird, isn't it? Schedules are off, routines are shot... I only worked two days this past week and that just further threw me off. It will actually be nice to get back into the regular routine come Tuesday.

Christmas here was a good one. I hosted the whole family on Christmas Eve and we all had a great time. Good food, some games, gift exchange, and lots of laughs. Christmas Day was a lot more low-key which was good because I was exhausted by that point. The Husband and I decided not to exchange gifts this year. Instead of buying things, we plan to do things. Basically, have experiences, not more stuff. I'm looking forward to seeing what that means for us in 2024. 😊

I still don't have my car back (sobs quietly) but we did receive a call Thursday saying that all the parts are finally in. Well, all but one. There is a national backorder on one small part but they can work around it. So hopefully I'll have my car back in the next 1-2 weeks. Fingers are crossed!

My boss (one of the three) has retired and his last day was Thursday. Boy, that was tough. We've worked together for more than a decade and he will be missed. We both broke down Thursday and cried as we said our goodbyes. 😢

I went with the obvious for this week's song. An old classic with a new twist. Enjoy.

  3. Wow! That's a long time without your car, but I am glad to hear it will be ready soon. It always feels off when my daughter visits. I usually work, but I will also do stuff with her. So, not my norm. That is a big change with one of your bosses retiring. Will they promote someone to his position? I am with you. At my age, I have a lot of stuff, or I buy it when I need it. I am all about doing things together. Memories are priceless.

    1. Sam - I know! It's been a month without my car. At this point, I've been without it longer than I actually had it (I'd only had it 28 days when it got hit). Yep, a senior VP was promoted to COO, and the current COO (already one of my bosses) was named CEO. So it shouldn't be too much of an adjustment.

  4. I don't know how you manage without your car Tanya! Let's hope the last part will arrive soon! And that's a great idea to do things instead of possess things! I hope you'll have fun!

    1. Thanks Sophie! My insurance company has been paying for a rental car but even so I very much want my car back! I'd only had it for 28 days when it got hit! :(

  5. Sounds like a nice holiday! My family has gone back and forth on gifts. It would be hard to not do gifts for the little ones. But we've talked about doing a Disney trip for the rest of us instead of gifts, not that the price of that isn't totally above what we'd spend on gifts, lol. Hope you get your car back soon! I am not ready to go back to work, but that's life I guess! I start back on Wednesday. Happy New Year!

    1. Lisa - We started drawing names a few years back and it's so much better. There's only one "kid" left in the family (my niece is almost 16) and the next closest is 25. So we all still buy for Brooke but otherwise it's just drawing names. The Disney trip sounds like a fun idea!!

  6. I only worked two days last week, too, but I am not looking forward to going back! January is usually pretty busy for me. Glad you had a nice Christmas and I love the idea of experiences over gifts!

  7. What a wonderful Christmas! I like your plan of doing rather than getting things. With COVID, and my daughter's health issues, we have been very stay at home but I hope we will travel again at some point. Do you get a new boss or will there only be 2 now? Wishing you the very best for the new year!

    1. Thanks Anne. There's truly nothing we need or even want, so having experiences seemed like a much better idea. We have started to travel again but with caveats. No air travel, only road trips. My boss will be replaced - they've added a third member to the Board. The current COO was named CEO, and the current Sr VP is now the COO. He'll move into the executive suite next week. I've known him for years so it won't be too much of an adjustment. :)

  8. I feel your being off with not knowing days and whatnot. Both my husband and daughter have been off and I didn't even realize it was Sunday until I read your post. haha. I'm sorry your car still isn't ready and your boss retired, but at least Christmas was good! I hope you have a wonderful New Year's Eve!

    1. Deanna - Ha! I get it. I'm all thrown off between Christmas and New Year's. New Year's was spent at home, which is my preference. I'll let all the crazy drunk people have the restaurants and roads. LOL

  9. I'm glad to hear you had a great Christmas with your family. And, I do agree about the week in between. I do much better with a routine so it's always nice to get back into the swing of things after the holidays. I hope you have a wonderful new year's celebration!

  11. This week is always a weird one, I agree. What is it about routines? Sometimes we hate them but they're good to get back to lol. Anyway glad you had a nice Christmas! Our big party was on the 23rd and it was nice. So much good food!

I keep hearing about parts shortages and cars taking forever to get fixed. What will it be next??

    Anyway- happy New Year!!!

    1. Happy new year, Greg! Yep, we were told about the parts shortages when we first took the car in. Making it worse is that the car is a 2024 so all parts are going to making new cars so there's no surplus for repairs. *sigh*

  12. Working between Christmas and New Year feels so weird, too! Like it totally should be a dead time for everyone. Wouldn't that be nice?

Love the cover of Broken Dreams -- hope it was good!

  18. Happy New Year! I love the idea of gifting experiences as opposed to things because you will remember the time spent together going places and seeing things more than a book or something. It's always sad when a coworker leaves but I'm amazed you've worked with the same person for over a decade I've never stayed in a job long enough. I've welcomed the return to routine this week but it was rather nice just working one day last week and having a break without having loads of emails to come back to since everyone wound down for the holidays.
