Top Ten Tuesday: No, I Still Haven't Read It (The Pre-Blogging TBR of Shame)

Top Ten Tuesday is an original feature/weekly meme
As soon as I read this week's Top Ten Tuesday theme I could feel book bloggers everywhere cringe. Like there was a disturbance in the Force. We're being called out on the books that have been on our TBR (or bookshelf) since before we  started blogging... that we still haven't read. And I know I wasn't the only one cringing. :) Let's be real, we all know there's waaay more than 10 books on the list but we're showing restraint for Top Ten Tuesday. So here we go: 10 books that were on my TBR even before I started blogging that I can't believe I *still* haven't read.
The Vampire Academy - Richelle Mead
Archer's Voice - Mia Sheridan
Making Faces - Amy Harmon
The Selection - Kiera Cass
The Time Traveler's Wife - Audrey Niffenegger
Shadow and Bone - Leigh Bardugo
The Edge of Never - J.A. Redmerski
Cinder - Marissa Meyer
The Sea of Tranquility - Katja Millay
Falling Kingdoms - Morgan Rhodes
Have you read any of these books?
Is there one that I need to read immediately?
What book has been on your TBR the longest?

    1. I think I've put off the Time Traveler's Wife because I'm worried it will be confusing. Thanks for stopping by.

    1. That's great to hear, Giovanna! Most people I know that have read the series have loved it so I don't know why I haven't started it yet. I even own the box set so I seriously have no excuse. I hope I get to it soon, too, though! :)

    1. I know, I know! I cannot believe I still haven't read Making Faces. But I've already decided that it *will* happen before the end of the year. I have a short list of books that I'm determined to read before the end of the year and it's one of them. Have you read the rest of the Lunar Chronicles books after Cinder?

  4. I think Time Traveler's Wife you should take off your list. I watched the movie and it was a little better but I didn't enjoy the book at all.

    1. Thanks for the heads-up, Marce! I think one of the reasons I have put off reading the book is that I've been concerned it will be too dry/confusing. Maybe I should just watch the movie instead. :)

  5. You need to read Vampire Academy and Archer's Voice! I loved those two books, especially Archer's Voice. I have The Edge of Never but still haven't read it. I recently got The Sea of Tranquility and hope to read it before the year ends.

    1. I can't believe I haven't read VA yet... I even own the box set... so, seriously, I have no excuse. And Archer's Voice, I can guarantee that one will happen by the end of the year. It's on my short list (I just accidentally typed lust instead of list LOL). Hopefully we'll both get the read The Sea of Tranquility before the end of the year!

  6. I'm a HUGE fan of The Selection - Maxon and America are among my top ten biggest ships. Also, I think you'll enjoy it, being a wannabe princess, and all. ;) Vampire Academy is another favorite of mine, though I actually enjoyed its spin-off, Bloodlines, more. And omg, don't even get me started of The Lunar Chronicles - wonderful characters, super-exciting plot, great friendships and absolutely epic ships are what await you in that series!
Hope you'll enjoy all these novels when you pick them up. :)

    1. LOL Love your comment, Veronika, and you're so right - as a wannabe princess I'm sure I'll fall in love with the whole Selection series. :) Wow, that's awesome that you loved Bloodlines even more than VA! And everyone raves so much about The Lunar Chronicles that I can't wait to experience it for myself! :)

  7. I LOVED Cinder, so I'd recommend trying that one. I own The Sea of Tranquility as well that I really need to read. I've been blogging since 2007 so it's kind of difficult to think of pre-blogging books that I still need to read. I know I have many though, as I do have a lot of older titles. I'm trying to read more of those!

    1. Oh my goodness, you've been blogging almost a decade... I'd be surprised if you still had books on your TBR from that far back. :) It's easy to get excited about all the new releases but I actually love reading from my backlist.

  8. I've read... Cinder. And Shadow and Bone. And I think maybe The Edge of Never? The Selection might actually be a book that was on my list pre-blog... but I also can't remember if I removed it from my TBR haha. I want to do this post at some point too, it's fun!

    1. I'm loving seeing what everyone has had lounging on their TBR... often for years. I asked what I should read immediately before all others and I've been laughing because there's been NO general consensus. Everyone has picked a different book that I *have* to read first. I should have known. Ha!

  10. You HAVE to read CINDER and all its sequels. It's a great series -- unique, exciting, and fun. I put off reading it for a long time because cyborgs aren't really my thing, but I ended up loving the series.

    Happy TTT!

    1. Okay, same here, Susan! I have friends that love Cinder and the rest of the series but I've always been like, "Cyborgs and sci-fi? I don't know..." But it's great to hear you felt the same and loved the series. That makes me more excited about picking it up! :)

  11. Cinder was really good but the Lunar Chronicles is a huge commitment. The Selection was good as well not as huge of a commitment. They are both really good books and I suggest you get to them asap! I haven't looked at my TBR of shame... I'm afraid to. Ha ha.

    1. Those Lunar Chronicles books do look pretty chunky. :) The Selection series, though... they look like quick and easy reads. Probably perfect for the summer! Too funny about your own TBR, Jessica. I know the feeling... I barely scratched the surface of mine to come up with this list. LOL

  12. I know what you mean by a "disturbance in the force," I could feel it! You HAVE to read Cinder! Well, you don't have to do anything, but you get what I mean. I hope that you get to it! It's one of my favorite series. :)

    1. Thanks Anna! I'm actually kind of surprised at the number of comments pulling for Cinder and the rest of the series! I've kind of put it off because I've been like, "Cyborgs and sci-fi... I don't know." But I'm going to trust everyone and just jump into it. :)

  13. I really enjoyed Cinder and really want to read the rest of the series soon. The Grisha Trilogy is also on my tbr soon list. I hope you enjoy them.

  14. The VA series is a favorite of mine, I just love it and you have to read The Deal, it's my go to book whenever I need a re-read, or just whenever I miss Hannah and Garrett which is very often. And you'll need a big box of tissues for Making Faces, one of my very limited 6-star books. Enjoyed The Selection series a lot, didn't like The Edge of Never and I need to read The Sea of Tranquility asap!

    1. As much as I love new adult I still can't believe I haven't read The Deal yet. So many friends gush over Garret so obviously I *must* meet him. :) I swear, I'm going to have to mentally ready myself for Making Faces. I feel like that one is going to destroy me. Sorry to hear you didn't like The Edge of Never. I've seen a lot of good reviews and I'm excited about that one. I'm guessing if you didn't like it you never read the follow-up book?

  15. There are some great books here. I still need to read the VA series too, it is a big task when there are so many books. I 1,000,000% recommend getting to The Sea of Tranquillity asap, I loved that. The same with The Time Traveller's Wife. A lot of the others I haven't read yet either, but do own and need to get to.

    1. I think that's probably what's stopped me from starting the VA series, Charnell. It's quite an undertaking. With The Time Traveler's Wife I've convinced myself that it will be too confusing. I am so ready for The Sea of Tranquility. I can't believe I haven't read it before now.

  16. Same with me re: Archer's Voice & The Selection!

I've read VA (love) and The Edge of Never (I would skip)

    1. I was just telling Charnell that I've probably put off the VA series because it's such an undertaking. But I *will* get to it. So surprised about The Edge of Never! I've always seen such rave reviews for it but you're the second person here in the comments to say skip it.

  17. Ah! I have so many books in my own "The Pre-Blogging TBR of Shame". Falling Kingdom's also on my TRB I have heard so many good things but I have still yet to buy and read it.

    1. Hi Deborah! I have several friends who rave about the Falling Kingdoms series. Fantasy is a genre I rarely reach for but they convinced me to buy the first book and give it a try. Here's hoping we'll both love it! :)

  18. I love what you said about every book reader cringing when we saw the topic for this week! LOL too funny and I am sure you are right! I know I did at least! It's like our guilty secrets we kept from the book community lol. Vampire Academy is one I still want to read! I basically want to read anything vampire related (it's a sick obsession I have; i am currently working my way through the vampire diaries books so maybe I'll start Vampire Academy when I'm done). The Lunar Chronicles and the Selection Series are two of my favorite series so I am really happy to see those on your list because hopefully you'll read them sometime soon! And YES to the Grisha series because I just can't put into words how much I love that series by Leigh Bardugo. I didn't hop on the bandwagon until just last year though so I am a late bloomer when it came to that series lol. I'm surprised to see it on your list though since it's fantasy! hopefully since you enjoyed ACOTAR though you might like this one as well!

    1. I even own the box set of the VA series so I truly have no excuse not to read it - except that that are just *too many books and too little time.* I'm excited about the Selection series. I hear people carry on about America and how she's annoying and blah blah blah, but I don't care. I think it will be a fun, swoony series. So excited to hear that you loved the Grisha trilogy so much! I know it's fantasy (not usually my thing) but the Russian inspiration sold me. I *love* reading about Russian history and culture so that alone intrigues me. :)

  19. Ok so...

    - The Selection - I read the first three in the series, and as a whole, gave the series three stars. I just didn't love the series, but then I just kept reading. haha
    - The Time Traveler's Wife - This is really, really good!
    - Shadow and Bone and The Edge of Never - have been on my TBR list for a while too!
    - Cinder - This series is so good, but Cinder is not my fav from the hour books.

    1. Too funny that you just kept reading the Selection series. LOL I imagine they're rather addictive. I've read a lot of criticism of America but... *shrugs*... I think it'll be a fun, light read.

I keep putting The Time Traveler's Wife off - thinking that it will be too confusing, or hard to follow. I need to just get over it and pick the book up!

  20. I still haven't read Archer's Voice or Making Faces.
Do yourself a favour and stay far away from The Selection. That is one extremely overrated series. It's pure garbage.
Cinder and The Sea of Tranquility though, get on that! The Lunar Chronicles audios are really good. Just as a pushy FYI.

    1. How can we not have read Archer's Voice and Making Faces? I mean, everyone raves about them. The reviews are fantastic, the GR ratings are off the charts. What's wrong with us? Gah!

I'm laughing so hard at the disparity in comments. "You MUST read The Selection series, you'll love it!" To "Stay far away - it's garbage." LOL

Sea of Tranquility - that one will happen by the end of the year. No doubt.

    2. I don't know. How can we call ourselves romance readers? How?!
Haha! Well I know it's well loved. But anyone who loves that series is on some serious drugs. It may be light and fluffy but that doesn't mean it can't be shit. Which it is.
      I'll hold you to that!
