The Sunday Post #29

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Caffeinated Book Reviewer.
It's a chance to share news - a post to recap the past week on your blog,
showcase books and things we have received, and share news about what is
coming up on your blog in the week ahead. You can find the info here:

Well, it's been an interesting week on this end thanks to Hurricane Matthew. Life has been in a state of upheaval for several days. My husband and I decided to stay put since we are not in an evacuation zone or a flood zone (and also because we could not find a hotel room within a 200 mile radius). However, my sister and her family live at the beach so they were under a mandatory evacuation. They came to our house Thursday morning and stayed through Saturday, until the bridges reopened and they were able to return home. My parents joined us on Friday so we had a full house (8 people). By some miracle, we never lost power. It flickered many times and we all held our breath... but it never went out. Our damage was minor: the fencing on one side of the house is down and a lot of tree limbs/debris, but the house itself is fine and we experienced no flooding. I know many others were not as lucky but we really feel as though we dodged a bullet. I'm so thankful my sister evacuated when she did because the beaches really felt the impact of Hurricane Matthew.

Unfortunately, now my brother-in-law and his family are being affected in North Carolina. The flooding there is terrible and I so hope the water recedes soon.

Today felt like it was back to normal although it was strange seeing so much debris on the roads and in yards when we were out today. It'll be good to get back to work tomorrow after being out Thursday and Friday.

Absolutely nothing this week.
I was either preparing for the storm or had a house full of family.

    1. Thanks so much, Grace. We fared well, thankfully. My husband is actually listening to Furiously Happy with me and thinks it's hilarious - but ever so often he'll say "this woman is crazy!" LOL

  2. Wow, that flooding is awful. Glad you weren't affected too badly, but i know so many were (and hopefully your sister's family didn't have too much damage). It's been scary watching that storm. My uncle's in Orlando but he was fine.

I thought Maybe In Another Life was quite good. Hope you enjoy it.

    1. Thanks so much, Greg. When my sister was able to get back to her house at the beach it was fully intact with no real damage so that was a huge relief. So glad your uncle fared well in Orlando!

I'm really looking forward to Maybe in Another Life. I've only read one by TJR so far (One True Loves) but I really loved it.

I'm really looking forward to Good Girl, esp after I loved Blurred Lines so much.

  4. I'm so glad to hear you and your husband are safe! That is scary though, especially when your family is involved!

    1. Thank you, Emily! It was a rough two days but we were so very lucky!
I have had so little time to read lately and it's killing me! First with hurricane preparations and then with a house full of family. It's like, all I want to do now is sit and read (and yet the pesky job gets in the way). I'm still only at 20-something percent. Feyre is meeting Rhys's inner circle and just agreed to got to some prison to meet the Bone Carver? Eeek! Sounds scary!

  5. I'm happy to hear that you and a portion of your family are safe. I'll keep your brother-in-law in my thoughts and hope the waters recede soon.
I hope you have some time for reading this week as things return to normal. It looks like you have some good books to choose from. :) p.s. Taylor Jenkins Reid is on my must-read list thanks to you. ;)

    1. Thanks so much, Brandee. We heard yesterday that my brother-in-law and his family have power again so that's definitely a step in the right direction.
And after all the drama and stress and the house full of family... I am so ready for some reading time! :)

  6. You got a lot done considering the threat was so close to you. I miss the hurricane parties from when I lived in Florida (my whole life til we moved to CT 12/14). I get to have blizzard parties now! Have a great week!

  7. Thank goodness I live in a moderate climate - every once in a while we get a windstorm that knocks down some trees, but other than that the weather here is pretty predictable and keeps its calm! Hurricane season must be so stressful, but I guess after a few seasons you get used to it? I'm such a weather wimp!!

    1. I've lived in FL all my life and hurricane season lasts 6 months every year. To be honest, I rarely every think about it. Even when a storm develops, chances are it will stay in the ocean and never hit land. And if it does hit land we have days and days of warning to prepare of evacuate. So it's really so stressful at all (to me, anyway). And it was a great excuse to have the whole family over. LOL

  8. You and your husband are BA for staying! I live in the midwest so the idea of a hurricane is foreign to me, I'd just leave at the mention of it.

ACOMAF!! Have you finished it yet?

    1. Not saying hurricanes are nothing to be concerned about, but with the number of nor'easters and bad storms that come thru here, it would take a lot to make us evacuate. And it we had thought for a minute that we were in danger by staying we would have high-tailed it outta here for sure. We got lucky with this one.

I'm still reading ACOMAF! I've so little time to read lately and it's killing me! I'm at about 40% through it now. If someone had told me in ACOTAR that I'd be Team Rhys I would have laughed... but OMG. Loving him! :)

  9. I'm hoping your family is doing better after the hurricane. Really destroyed some things. I can't wait to pick up ACOMAF finally. I've only had it forever!

    1. Thanks Jazmen. All is well after Hurricane Matthew. We were very lucky. I'm *still* reading ACOMAF (just haven't found much time to read lately) but I'm nearing the end. Loving it so hard!
