Top Ten Tuesday: Autumn Edition

Top Ten Tuesday is an original feature/weekly meme
This week's Top Ten Tuesday theme is a Halloween related freebie: ten scary books, favorite horror novels, scariest novels, books to get you in a Halloween/fall mood, etc.

Since I don't read from the horror genre, and don't often reach for scary books period (I mean, come on, total romance junkie here - the scariest thing that happens in my books is an occasional love triangle), I'm putting my own twist on the theme and going with book covers that look like autumn/have autumn colors/or in some weird way known only to me make me think of autumn or Halloween.

Red at Night - Katie McGarry
The red/orange leaves on the cover says autumn to me.
Go Set a Watchman - Harper Lee
The orange cover and the bare branches... totally autumn.
November 9 - Colleen Hoover
An orangey November is on the cover. Need I say more?
Until Friday Night - Abbi Glines
The combination of field parties and football just screams fall.
Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children - Ransom Riggs
The book was way less spooky than I anticipated but still... 'tis the season.
Oblivion - Jennifer L. Armentrout
Oooh, look at the pretty fall colors! Who am I kidding? I just saw a great excuse to throw some Daemon Black in my list.
Rooms - Lauren Oliver
Orange cover and a freaky tree growing through a house... seems fitting.
Six of Crows - Leigh Bardugo
This isn't supposed to be a creepy book (as far as I know, anyway) but doesn't that cover just look dark and foreboding?
Drums of Autumn - Diana Gabaldon
Do I even need to explain this one?
One Tiny Lie - K.A. Tucker
The leaf-covered road, a girl in a sweater and boots, the falling leaves... does anything about this cover *not* scream autumn?

Have you read any of these?
Do you read different types of books depending on the season?

  2. Great list! I loved all the colors.I find I reach for slightly darker books during the fall and winter (though I don't do horror either because I'm a wimp). Nothing too scary, but maybe a darker fantasy novel.

    1. Thanks Ronyell. Miss Peregrine's Home was a fun read but I never did continue on with the series. I hope you'll enjoy it if/when you read it!

  5. Very nice picks, Tanya, and I like that you put your own spin on this week's topic. I especially like a few of those covers with orange...Daemon! Until Friday Night's cover is lovely too.
Hope you're having a great week!

    1. Thanks Brandee. :) You know I had to find a way to add some Daemon Black to a list. LOL And I love the covers for that Abbi Glines series. I really enjoyed Until Friday Night and hope to read Under the Lights very soon.

  6. Yes, I've read the Miss Peregrine's series. Loved it and the pictures were an added bonus. I'm not fond of seasonal reads although I do read more horror/spooky ones in October because so many bloggers talk about them. Reading Dark Matter now.

    1. I've heard such great things about Dark Matter! I actually have it hold right now on the Overdrive app for my husband. I hope you're enjoying it!

  7. I read more according to mood but I certainly do feel drawn to certain titles during certain seasons. I guess it's my way of getting in the mood.

    1. I'm like you, Jazmen - I'm a 100% mood reader. I never even have monthly TBRs because who knows what I'll feel like reading on any given day.

  8. I've only read Miss Peregrine from your list, but I do love the idea behind this Top Ten Tuesday! I still need to read November 9. I think it sounds really good.

    1. I really loved November 9. I actually did a re-read of it recently (audio book this time) and my husband listened along for most of it. I was surprised at how much he enjoyed it. He was totally getting into and asking questions and making predictions... I got a kick out of that. :) I hope you'll enjoy it, too, if you decide to pick it up.

  9. "The scariest thing that happens in my books is an occasional love triangle"-- DYING. Bwhaha that is fabulous! The only one I have read is Six of Crows, which is good! I think Rooms actually is supposed to be a mystery of some sort? Idk, I have the ebook but then heard bad things hahah. I want to read Miss Peregrine's and November 9 for sure!! Great list, I love how you did this!

    1. LOL Yeah well, it's true about the love triangles. ;-) You know I don't often stray from my contemporaries so it's not like I'm often confronting magic or scary creatures. Ha! I actually want to read Six of Crows but I'm determined to read the Grisha trilogy first. I know, I know, I can't believe I haven't read it yet, either. The reviews of Rooms are... not so good. Like a 3.3 average on GR? Yeah, I'll pass. Miss Peregrine's was okay but not what I was expecting. It felt like very young YA and I never continued with the trilogy. I loved November 9. Some people have complained that it's cheesy but I fell for it completely. :)

  10. Until Friday Night! <3 any football related books (especially set in high school) make me think of Fall! I'm the same as you Tanya, I'm not a huge fan of horror/scary stories although once in a while I'll get in a weird mood where I am and I'll pick up a James Patterson book or two.

    1. Football books definitely make me think of fall! :)

I haven't read anything by James Patterson in so long but when you're in the mood for a suspense thriller he sure is a reliable pick. Funnily enough, my favorites that I've read from him aren't thrillers: Sunday's at Tiffany's was my favorite with Suzanne's Diary for Nicholas being a close second.
