The Sunday Post #56

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Caffeinated Book Reviewer.
It's a chance to share news - a post to recap the past week on your blog,
showcase books and things we have received, and share news about what is
coming up on your blog in the week ahead. You can find the info here:

We got some much-needed rain today and more is on the way. Wildfires in the surrounding areas have been impacting our air quality for weeks (smoke and ash in the air) so hopefully the rain will go a long way in helping the firefighters.

The Husband and I went to see Everything Everything today. It fell into the good-not-great category for me. I felt like it was missing the charm of the book but that was to no fault of the actors (Amandla Stenberg and Nick Robinson were wonderful). I just wasn't a fan of some of the earlier scenes and wished Maddy and Olly's text conversations had been presented differently. But it was still a pretty solid adaptation. Did anyone else go see it this weekend?

  1. I forgot Everything Everything was out. So many movies out all of a sudden. And I hope the firefighters get all the help they can get- sounds awful.

    2. Yeah the wildfires are crazy. The big one in southeast GA is only 20% contained (after a month) and they expect it to burn until almost November.

  2. Everything Everything is out? I've seen zero promos for that, wow. Did you like Making Faces??? That book destroyed me!

    1. Yep, Everything Everything released last Friday. (It did here, anyway.) I hardly saw any promo for it, either. Sad. Making Faces was nothing like I thought it was going to be but I still loved it!

  3. I just learned that Becky is coming to a local indie bookstore so it looks like I'll be buying a copy of Upside as well!

So happy you got some much-needed rain!

    1. That's so awesome! I'd love to be able to meet Becky or just hear her talk about her books and characters. Simon was a 5 star read for me and became an instant favorite and I love Upside almost as much.

  4. I'm sad that Everything Everything wasn't great---I'll still be watching, but if other people aren't crazy about it either, I might wait for it to come out on video. :-(

Hope the rain helps you guys!!

    1. Hopefully I didn't make it sound like I didn't enjoy the movie. I did... I was just hoping for the same feeling the book gave me and it just wasn't quite there. Still worth seeing, though!

  5. Making Faces made me sob like a baby. It was great book, but Bailey broke my heart. Wildfire are scary, we had a few last year here in Northern Nevada. Getting rain is the best. :)

    1. Oh my gosh, I cried and cried with Making Faces. It was so different from what I expected but so, so good. And Bailey... that just killed me. So many lessons in that book.

  6. Ha! Totally agree with that meme.

I haven't seen a movie since the new Beauty and the Beast. Used to go a lot more.

Hope you have a great week! ~Aleen

  7. Upside was so adorable. I hope you enjoy it, and I couldn't help but one-click the Glines sales this week. Her books are such soapy OTT fun for me. I love them!

    1. I loved Upside. I read an arc back in March I think it was but I really wanted a physical copy. Simon is still my favorite but Upside was so sweet and charming. Totally agree about Glines... total brain candy. :)

  8. Love the e-card at the end - so so true. I haven't read Everything, Everything so I don't know if I'll see the movie in theaters or not. I DO love the actors!

    1. The casting in Everything Everything was wonderful. I knew that Amandla had played Rue in The Hunger Games but I couldn't place the guy that played the male lead even though he looked so familiar. I had to look him up and realized it was Ben Parish from The 5th Wave! :)

  9. I still haven't read Everything Everything! Next on my list...sort of haha, so I cannot watch the movie until I read the book, which probably means I'll wait for the DVD haha...and I love that meme at the end! I constantly get mad when I have to put down my book for ridiculous things, like sleep. Lol

    1. I know what you mean about having to read the book before the movie. I'm the same way. :) The book was really cute and so worth reading. I picked it up on a whim last year and was so pleasantly surprised.

    1. Aw. that's too bad that you didn't enjoy Everything Everything. I actually found the book rather sweet and charming. And the movie was good... I just wished for more from it. I loved Making Faces! It wasn't at all what I thought it was going to be but I absolutely loved it. And The Upside of Unrequited... love! I read an arc back in March I think it was but decided I had to have a physical copy. I just adored Molly and related to her so much.
