Top Ten Tuesday: Reading Wishlist

Top Ten Tuesday is an original feature/weekly meme

This week's Top Ten Tuesday theme is all about reading wishlists.
So here's what I want more of in my books.

Note: The text came out way smaller than I expected but I so do not want to re-do this graphic.
So just see the list below for the captions, m'kay? Thanks.

1. Friendship to Love
It's one of my favorite tropes and I just don't get tired of it.
2. Sports Romance
Does this even need explanation? :)
3. Time Travel
It can be hit or miss but I usually love a good time travel romance and would love to see more of them.
4. Male POV
Whether it's dual POV, multi-POV, or male-only POV, I'm a sucker for a male narrator. Getting inside the guy's head does it for me every time.
5. Epilogues
I'm trash for a good epilogue.
6. Plot Twists I Don't See Coming
I'm all for foreshadowing but it bugs me when every "twist" is basically spelled out in advance and you see it coming from 50 pages away. Nope, give me some twists and turns that will genuinely catch me by surprise.
7. Brother's Best Friend/Best Friend's Brother
Overdone? Some would say yes. But do I want more? Absolutely.
8. Secret Pen Pals
Love it, love it, love it.
9. 80's Setting
I was in high school in the 80's so a setting during that time is super nostalgic for me.
10. Stand Alones
I love a good series as much as the next girl, but sometimes it's just... enough, already. Not everything has to be a series. Gimme a good stand alone and I'm a happy girl.

What's on your bookish wishlist?
What do you want to see more of?

  1. Ooooh I'd love to read more sports romances (and sports stories in general). I'm a big sports fan, baseball mostly, but I love ANY book that has a good sports setting in the background. (:

    1. Hi Cori! It's funny that I'm not really much of a sports fan IRL but a sports romance books? Bring it on! :) Have you read Moonshot by Alessandra Torre? I've heard that's a good one with a baseball background.

  2. Standalones are such a catch-22. Yay you don't have to spend years waiting for a sequel, but boooo no more story!

    1. Yes! Epilogues are like putting the bow on the already pretty package.
And you totally need to read Letters to the Lost!

  5. You know I am a lover of epilogues. It's my biggest woe when I read a contemporary. I want and need that closure. Yes to so many of these: sports romances (LOVE THEM!), friends to lovers (I love when these have that long history between the H/H), I<3 the 80s (I was also in high school). I think you are getting your wish with secret pen pals. I have read a bunch lately (Alex. Follow Me Back, Words in Deep Blue, It Started with Goodbye, Alex, Approximately, Letters to the Lost). This is a great list. I want them all too.

    1. I love that you love epilogues, too! To me they are the perfect final little glimpse at the couple/the story and I can book the book down totally satisfied. And the pen pals is becoming such a thing. I love it! I loved Letters to the Lost and Tell Me Three Things and P.S. I Like You. I'll definitely be reading Alex, Approximately soon.

    1. Oh, a 90's romance would be awesome! I've read two that have partially taken place in the 90's - Always by Sarah Jio and Before We Were Strangers by Renee Carlino. BWWS was especially good!

  7. Time travel and 80's settings work for me. :) And I love a good plot twist, the ones that come out of left field and blindside me. Good epilogues too to end the story just right. :)

    1. I'd love to find more time travel that isn't straight-on historical romance. Maybe more adventure, more political intrigue, even a YA.

  9. I really like Friendship to Love because it just makes SENSE to me. Plus, you don't ever really think they fell for each other too quick. Kind of same with enemy to love because they already know each other and have strong emotions.

I also really love a great plot twist and a lovely stand alone.

    1. My thoughts exactly, Lauren! The friends-to-more romances seem so realistic because there's usually already a long-term relationship there and the characters *know* each other.

    1. My goodness, sometimes it feels like every other new release is part of a series. Makes me love when a story can be told in one book even more!

  12. These are great! I looooove a good plot twist that I didn't see coming. I definitely need more of those in my life. Love time travel too, and the friends to lovers one is great too! I am also trash for a good epilogue, so I feel you :) Great list!!
