Top Ten Tuesday: I Changed My Mind #SorryNotSorry

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl.

This week's Top Ten Tuesday topic:
Books I'm No Longer Interested in Reading
You know how it goes. You hear about a book, it sounds great, you're excited to read it, and it goes on the TBR. Time passes (sometimes years... ahem *looks around guiltily*) and you realize: the moment has passed. You're no longer interested. I won't say I'm *never* going to read these, but it's probably not going to happen. Either my tastes have changed or their time has passed or I'm just fickle and changed my mind. For whatever reasons, these are the books I'm no longer interested in reading.

The Legend trilogy | Marie Lu
The Maddox Brother series | Jamie McGuire
Room | Emma Donoghue
Left Drowning | Jessica Park
The Darkest Minds trilogy | Alexandra Bracken
Cruel Beauty | Rosamund Hodge
The Crossfire series | Sylvia Day
The Everneath trilogy | Brodi Ashton
Love, in English | Karina Halle
Hello | Liza M. Wiemer

Have you read any of these?

  1. I can only advocate for one book: Room is worth it. If you haven't seen the film. The film follows the book pretty closely so there's not really a need to read it after watching it. That book broke my heart...it's interesting being told from the POV from someone so young who does not understand the world in a way adults do! I hope you're having a great week.

    1. Thanks for mentioning Room, Olivia. Since I still have some interest in the story I will probably go the movie route.

  2. I remember liking Everneath, but then I never read the two books that followed. I pretty much forgot about the series as a whole, and if I was ever to continue I'd have to re-read book one.

    1. That’s always tough when so much time has passed since reading the previous book. I’m like that right now with Armentrout’s Covenant series It’s been so long since I read the first book I feel like I’ll need to reread it to continue with the series.

  3. I'm pretty sure I have an e-copy of Hello? so we'll see if I get to that one. lol I've only read Cruel Beauty and that was only a couple months ago for the book club I'm in. It's a good one, but nothing outstanding.

    1. I read several reviews of Cruel Beauty and they all seemed pretty middle of the road. I feel safe passing that one by.

  4. I've read Cruel Beauty and the Crossfire series, you'll do well to skip them.

    1. Good to hear! The reviews for Cruel Beauty all seemed fairly mediocre. And with Crossfire, I just no longer care. Ha.

  5. Cruel Beauty is one of my faves! And I really liked Room as an audiobook.

    1. My library’s Overdrive app has the audio version of Room so I might go that route.

    1. I just found that my library has Room on audio so I might go that route. :)

  7. Legend is one of my favorite series, which is saying a lot, since I am more of a contemporary person, but I loved it. I am a Park fan too. Left Drowning was really emotional and raw, and I adored Hello? I loved the mixed format and the whole idea of connection. And yeah, I liked the Maddox brothers, though I have not rushed to read the book I have unread in the series.

    1. Ack! You totally have me rethinking Left Drowning and the Legend trilogy. Maybe I’ll hang on to those for now... just in case.

  8. I read Beautiful Disaster and tried to read book 2 and... meh. I lost interest too!

The Darkest Minds I'll try to read because I'll be a movie. Once I see the movie first I lose interest in the book [because spoilers!] which is the case with Room

Cruel Beauty and Legend are still in my "to consider" shelf which is pretty much a "I don;t think I'll ever red this" TBR LOL Very rarely a book from this shelf makes it to the "to read " shelf :)

The Crossfire series is probably in that bottomless pit too just becasue I have't declutter it. It's very FSOG and I can't stand those stories :)

Greta list! Funny how we always have so many books in common in every list you post! :)

    I LIKE THAT! xoxo

    1. I forgot The Darkest Minds was being adapted! What’s funny is that my husband has read the trilogy and I haven’t. He even met Alexandra Bracken at ApollyCon and got the books signed for me so I could stay in line for Jennifer Armentrout. So he chatted with Bracken about the books and I have no clue about any of it. Hm, maybe I’ll hang on to these... I kinda would like to read them before the movie. Hmmm.

  9. Cruel Beauty was fun and I have a few Lu books on my TBR. McGuire and I have a love/hate relationship. Also I have several of these on my want list. I do know what you mean abut I'm more of a mood reader. If I don't want to read it now, I may later.

    1. I know what you mean about McGuire. I read Beautiful Disaster and Walking Disaster and while I just wanted to smack pretty much every character, I also couldn’t help myself and could hardly put the books down. LOL

  10. I read the first three books in The Crossfire series then waited so long on the final two that I gave up and lost interest. That said, I remember that I did enjoy the first three even though they got a bit OTT by book three.

I read a few of the The Maddox Brothers series - and enjoyed them - but I always found the events in the books a bit hard to swallow (and there was something in every book!) which meant - after the first book - I had to really psyche myself up for reading another, even though I ultimately enjoyed it.

Haven't read any of the others! :)

    1. It’s always hard when so much time passes between reading books in a series. I have two right now that I’m torn on whether to reread the first book in the series or just carry on and hope that it all comes back to me. Decisions, decisions!

  11. I can't honestly say that you are missing anything earth-shattering by skipping these. I really did like the first part of Room, but then I think the book sort of fell apart at one point. Bottom line: I endorse this topic. There are SO many books out there and we should all read the ones that really click for us!

    1. Exactly. There are just way too many books that I am truly excited to read to spend time on others than I no longer care about (no matter how popular they are/were).

  12. Darkest Minds got kind of boring toward the end, tbh. So you're good. And I liked Legend, but my life wasn't changed by it or anything. I recently kicked Cruel Beauty off of mine, too. Hello? Is the only one I still plan on reading from your list, I think!

    1. As much as I love contemporary YA, I just lost interest in Hello after a while.
Now that Daniela reminded me about The Darkest Minds movie I’m kind of on the fence about that one. It goes back into the “Maybe” pile. :)

  13. I read Cruel Beauty and Left Drowning. I was disappointed in both. They just didn’t live up to the hype. Be glad you stopped.

    1. Oh, that’s good to hear! It’s hard to decide to weed some books out and then have everyone say, “But it was awesome! You have to read it!” LOL I feel better about letting those two go now. :)
