The Sunday Post #109

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Caffeinated Book Reviewer.
It's a chance to share news - a post to recap the past week on your blog,
showcase books and things we have received, and share news about what is
coming up on your blog in the week ahead. You can find the info here:

  • What a week. House-hunting has turned into a full-time job and basically taken over my life. Unfortunately I don't feel like I can take it easy because our house goes on the market in *twelve days*. Gah! So basically it's been a week of serious adulting, which means way less reading time.

  • In a fun turn of events, I'm no longer getting email notifications of blog comments. That's been my set-up for 3+ years and as of 2-3 days ago... nothing. The timing tells me it's related to the GDPR changes (I'm a total Sherlock, amiright?) but as of now Blogger is being of less than no help. Thanks Blogger, you da best.

WHAT I FINISHED IN THE LAST WEEK:

Before and Again - Barbara Delinsky
A little slower than I had anticipated but still an enjoyable read.

WHAT I'M CURRENTLY READING:
Not a lot of reading time the past few days so I'm only 70 pages in, but I'm really, really liking this one. I'm curious about Sage's past (only hints have been given) and Shane breaks my heart.

WHAT I'M CURRENTLY LISTENING TO:
Trust - Kylie Scott
Still doing a (re)listen of Trust. Loving it but again...adulting is getting in the way of my reading/listening time.

KINDLE BOOKS:

The Outpost - Devney Perry
Filthy Gods - R. Scarlett
Dear Bridget, I Want You - Penelope Ward
In This Life - Cora Brent

How was your week? Any new books? Any news to share?
I'd love to hear about it!

    1. Oh my gosh, it totally is, Jenea. And I imagine even more so for you since you're searching long distance and can't go check out the neighborhood like I can. We do have a viewing today that I am optimistic about so... *fingers crossed*

  3. Good luck with the house hunting!! I'm sure you'll find the perfect fit soon! :) Oh my gosh, I stopped getting email notifications too!! It stated a couple weeks ago, with just a select few bloggers that were commenting, but now it seems to be ALL of them...

    1. Thanks Erica - I hope so, too!
Yeah, the notification thing is so annoying. A lot of unhappy campers on the Blogger help forum. And so far there has been NO response from Blogger/Google. Nice.

Six months? Ack! I *really* hope we can get things settled before then.

  5. I hope you figure out your notification issues, and find a house. I just finished helping the kid find an apartment and it was such a struggle, probably amplified, because we were looking out of state. I know your dream house is out there, somewhere.

    1. Thanks Sam. We actually have a viewing scheduled this morning that I am optimistic about. (Trying to rein in my hopes.) Searching out of state definitely adds a whole other level of difficulty and stress.

  6. House hunting is HARD and a serious time commitment! I wish you luck! My husband is military, so I have to look for a house in a different state every few years. It's so much worse when you can't drive out to go look at it. Scary... I'm sure you'll find one soon, and maybe it will have bookshelves built into the walls!

    1. Yes! Big time commitment. And since we both work full time it sucks up our evenings and weekends. What branch of the service is your husband in? My husband is retired Navy.

Funny you mention built-in bookshelves because that's the one thing I will truly miss about this house. Right after we moved in my dad custom-made the most beautiful bookcase for a niche in what became the library. It's made for that spot and wouldn't fit anywhere else so we'll have to leave it behind... it's what I'll really miss.

  7. Ooooh you're having problems getting comment notifications too! It's been driving me crazy trying to fix it. I thought it was jsut me since no one else was talking about it.

    1. Definitely not just you! The Blogger help forum is filled with some truly annoyed bloggers. People are surmising that it's a bug from whatever changes they made for GDPR compliance but as of yet there hasn't been a single response from Blogger/Google. So annoying.

  8. Good luck with house hunting. The GDPR stuff has been frustrating. I’m getting tons of emails I don’t want and very few emails I actually want. I’m hoping it all sorts itself out eventually? Enjoy your new books!

  9. I actually love the process of house hunting. I just hate to actually move. I thought we might move this year (we are renting) but it is not happening. We have other things to work out first. Here's hoping you can listen to audios as you travel between homes, shop, cook, fold laundry, etc. Good Luck. Anne - Books of My Heart

    1. Seriously? I swear, you could have a career at just house hunting, Anne. LOL Because I'm so over it by now. My fingers are crossed that an end is in sight!

  10. HAH! I'm always touching the books that I've read - especially in bookstores! But boo to house hunting taking up so much time and interfering with your reading time. Adulting is rough.

  11. Same here on the email notifications. At first I was like hmm, that's odd lol. Then it hit me. Oh yeah GDPR. Fun times!

Good luck with house hunting! And hope you're having a nice holiday weekend.

    1. I sure hope Blogger/Google gets it sorted out soon. Not getting notifications is such a pain.

Hope you're enjoying the long weekend, Greg!

    1. Yeah, I think there are a whole lot of people with Blogger who are more than a little annoyed right now. I was seeing several tweets from you about the whole GDPR compliance mess, too. Hope you got yours sorted out. Such a pain.

  13. Good luck with your house hunting/selling!! My brother just recently sold his home and in a rent house looking for another. It was hard work so I totally get how you're feeling <3 Hope you are able to squeeze in some reading time <3

    1. Thanks Jessica. Yeah, it’s totally hard work. And after an area we were very excited about turned out to be in a flood zone (*sobs*) I feel like we’re starting all over. *sigh* But we’ll find something eventually. And I’m definitely owed some reading time this weekend!

  14. Good luck with house hunting, Tanya!!! That sounds super stressful, but I do think that the feeling of accomplishment when you do find a house will be amazing. ♥ And I hope you enjoy Queen of Bright and Shiny Things! It's been on my TBR for ages, so I can't wait to see what you think. :)

The Queen of Bright and Shiny Things was wonderful! Hopefully I’ll manage to get a review posted soon.

  15. Yeah, house hunting can be fun if it's a casual sort of things but if you have to find a place, it's a lot of work and pressure. But I know you'll find something great! And ... Blogger. Loved some things about it but annoying because they just do stuff without telling you and there is no one to contact with problems....

    1. You nailed it, Jen. My sister was recently telling me how much she enjoyed house hunting, and I was like, “Yes, that’s because you just look for fun. It’s quite different when you’re under the gun and have to find something because you want to coordinate closings.” Gah!

I swear, if I was the slightest bit more html savvy I would switch to Wordpress or something but I’m not. Blogger is (usually) the most user-friendly and intuitive so here I am.

  16. I'm having the same problem with comments! I'm glad I'm not the only one. It's driving my crazy but I can't figure out anything that I can fix. It's a bit disorienting to not get the emails anymore. Good luck with the house hunting. Not my favorite thing at all. Good luck on the hunting and getting your house ready to go on the market. Have a great week!

    1. Totally not just you! The Blogger help forums are exploding with people wanting answers. I started getting some notifications out of the blue yesterday. Not sure if I’m getting *everything* or if this means all is fixed... but I guess it’s something.

  17. I hate adulting. I've had two very long hard weeks of constant adulting and I'm ready for a nap and to wake up and go play. :(
Sadly, my house buying looks to be dead in the water. I could cry but I'm not going to. I'm just going to rock in a corner.
Good luck with your hunt and your sale!!

    1. Oh Nicola, I totally feel you on the adulting. *And* the house buying. Both are not going well on my end either. My father's health is not good and I'm trying to be the voice of calm and reason for my mother (while one of my sisters falls apart). And we've put the house buying on hold indefinitely. It's just too much to deal with right now. I'm so sorry yours isn't going well, either. (And I *have* had a few good cries.)

  18. I'll be crossing my fingers for you that house-hunting gets better! I can't believe your house goes on the market in 12 days, THE COUNTDOWN IS ON.

That's terrible that blogger is being no help. They had time to prepare for GDPR, they should have been ready!

    1. Well, the sale of the house - and the house hunting - is now on hold. There's just too much else going on. My father's health is not good and we need to concentrate on that. The house stuff was just too much right now. Maybe in a few months...

  19. yeah house hunting can be tedious especially this time of year when things are only slowly are starting to appear on the market after being down for the winter. Hopefully you will find a place soon <3
