WWW Wednesday #10 | June 13, 2018

WWW Wednesdays is a meme hosted by Taking on a World of Words.
Just answer three questions and share what you're reading.

WHAT ARE YOU CURRENTLY READING?

I didn't pick up either of the books I mentioned in last week's post. Instead I grabbed Till Death by Jennifer L. Armentrout which had been sitting on my shelf for far too long. It's unlike her usual contemporary romance or paranormal/fantasy. Instead this is more romantic suspense and I am so into it! I'm at about the 60% mark and can hardly put it down.

WHAT DID YOU RECENTLY FINISH READING?

The Fragile Ordinary was good... but not as good as I anticipated. I might have liked it better had I not read it immediately after One Small Thing by Erin Watt. I couldn't help but compare the two (both YA contemporaries) and The Fragile Ordinary just came up a little lacking.

And then there was a resounding DNF. I very rarely encounter a book that is so not for me, that so completely rubs me the wrong way for whatever reason, that I quit it... but If Only fits the bill. I don't think I even made it through the first chapter. I disliked the writing style *so* much that I just couldn't. Ugh. Be gone with you book!

WHAT DO YOU THINK YOU'LL READ NEXT?

I'm sticking with the same two I mentioned last week. Both of these sound like good possibilities after I finish Till Death. So either The Boy & His Ribbon (if I feel like angsty romance) or Deity (if I feel like YA urban fantasy/paranormal).

What are you currently reading?
I wanna know! :)

    1. I know. I can’t even remember the last time I DNF’d a book but oh my gosh I was seriously hating that one. LOL Love Me Only sounds so good! And the reviews are off the charts!

    1. Is Smoke and Iron the Rachel Caine one? If so, that ARC is out super early! Hope it's a good one.

  4. Never heard of If Only but I'm sorry to hear the writing style was just not for you. I've definitely gotten better at DNFing books, but it's never fun.

    1. Nope, DNFing is no fun but sometimes you just know from the start that a book is just not for you.

  5. I gasped when I saw your DNF, because I have that book too. It looked so good. I am sad.

    1. I know! I honestly can't even remember the last time I DNF'd. But the writing in If Only was so annoying and just rubbed me the wrong way... there's no way I could have pushed through it. Don't be sad... maybe you'll love it! :)

  6. Yikes, a DNF! But seriously, sometimes you just KNOW a writing style isn't going to work, might as well cut your losses. Glad you're enjoying your current read though! I am starting Night Owls (the UK version of Anatomical Shape of a Heart because I liked the cover better hah) so.... cross your fingers!

    1. Ugh, I know. Can’t even remember the last time I had a DNF. But like you said, sometimes you just KNOW. And I knew it wasn’t going to happen. I wouldn’t be able to get past aspects of the writing that were already annoying me.

Oooh, I’ve heard such raves for Night Owls/Anatomical Shape of a Heart! And I’ve totally done that before... bought another edition for the “better” cover. That doesn’t make us shallow... right??? LOL

  7. Aww that's a bummer about If Only. Still, sounds like Till Death is working out well! :)

    1. Yep, If Only was a big fat NO from the first chapter.
But Till Death ended up being a big hit so there’s that. :)

  8. Sounds exciting to read your books that you already read. specially the Till Death Jennifer L. Armentrout. I'll find that book and I will read it.

  9. It sucks that you didn’t like If Only. I’ve never heard of it, but that cover is really interesting. Writing style is probably the biggest reason I DNF. I’m picky about it.

    1. Yep, If Only was an immediate NO. I’ve never considered myself overly picky about writing style but I knew right away that it wasn’t going to work for me.

  10. I think I have Till Death on my kindle - maybe? I am intrigued that is like a romantic suspense though. Enjoy your reading!

    1. Yeah, I can’t remember JLA doing an adult romantic suspense before, but it totally worked for me. :)

  11. I've read a few JLA books in the past and am not really a fan, but maybe I should try her newer books? I enjoyed Half-Blood, though, but I haven't continued those books. I hope you love Deity! :D

  13. Life is too short to read books we aren't into. I'm proud of you for dropping it <3 I have yet to read a book by Jennifer L Armentrout just yet. I want to read the Lux series though <3

    1. So true. I can’t understand those who *force themselves* to slog through books they’re not enjoying. Reading is supposed to be enjoyable! :) The Lux series is how I was first introduced to Jennifer L. Armentrout and is still my favorite.
