The Sunday Post #122

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Caffeinated Book Reviewer.
It's a chance to share news - a post to recap the past week on your blog,
showcase books and things we have received, and share news about what is
coming up on your blog in the week ahead. You can find the info here:

Another busy week filled with work all day and then projects at home. Thursday was my company's Open House in honor of our 40th anniversary so there was a lot to do leading up to that. It was a good turn-out (around 250 guests) and a great event.

Last night I used Target's new Drive Up service and all I can say is: I'm hooked. Place your order on the Target app, tap to say when you're on your way and when you've arrived, they bring your order out, and you're done. From the time I pulled into the special Drive Up spot until our order was brought out was about... 45 seconds! Now that's service. This is a total game changer. LOL

My bookshelves are (mostly) done. I did something revolutionary. Well, revolutionary for me. I organized by color. I have no idea how long this will last because my little Type A brain might just explode without having every book perfectly alphabetized by author, but I love the look and wanted to give it a try. I'm pretty jazzed with the result. Oh, and a note about the empty shelves on the bottom: because I had to leave my beautiful bookcase that my father made for me at the other house (it was custom-made for a particular space) I knew I was dealing with less shelf space. I did add another IKEA bookcase, I added additional shelves, I weeded out a lot of books, and I left off all the trinkets and baubles - all so I'd have more room. Well it all worked quite well because I definitely have room to grow! :)

Such a good time!

  2. Okay, first of all, your bookshelf looks GORGEOUS! But I so relate to wanting everything in alphabetic order, that's the biggest reason why I haven't tried to do this. I hope you're enjoying The Gentleman's Guide, Tanya! I loved that book to pieces - not even because of the plot, but because of how amazing the characters were. I'll jump right into Felicity's novel when I get my hands on it. Hope you'll have a great next week! My week was okay, I managed to read a couple of books - most notable The Death of Mrs. Westaway and Here Lies Daniel Tate, both were spectacular reads.

    1. Thanks Veronika! I’m not sure how long the color coding will last... I’m sure soon enough it’ll drive me crazy and and I’ll go back to alphabetizing. LOL The Gentleman’s Guide was so good! Totally enjoyed it. I just loved seeing the changes in Monty as the story progressed. He grew so much and yet still maintained his cocky charm. :)

  3. OMG Tanya your shelves look so good but yes I don't know if I could keep this as I would look a long time before finding my book LOL Happy Sunday!

    1. LOL Thanks Sophie! Yeah, my husband keeps saying, “But how can you find a book?” And I just tell him the fun is in the searching. :)

  4. That target drive up services is similar to how I get my groceries now from Kroger. I will never go into a store again! I tried organizing by color, but then I would have had to split some series and I didn't want to do that!! So, now I have them grouped by author.

    1. I love how so many stores are now offering the pick up option! It’s like, why haven’t we been doing this for years?

Yeah, splitting up series is kind of killing my soul. LOL But I’m sticking with the pretty color coding... for now. :)

  5. I'm glad to hear the Target drive up service is a winner. I've been wanting to try that.

Your shelves look great too. Looks like you're making good progress on getting the new house all set up. :)

    1. Thanks Sam. We’ll see how long it lasts. Soon my OCD nature will have my head practically imploding and I’ll have to go back to alphabetized by author. I actually can’t believe I’ve made it this long. Ha!

  7. Oh, you have to read one of Adam's solo books! I've read more by him than Becky at this point. Love your shelves!!

  8. Your shelves look pretty but I'm too OCD I have to sort them by genre and then by author. Hmm I don't know about Target service. I tried the Walmart one and it wasn't great because the one closest to me doesn't have it. But ordering stuff at Walmart.com worked well. Also I do Amazon Subscribe & Save for staples like toiletries and some groceries every month and we like it. Anne - Books of My Heart

    1. Typically I am, too, so I’m actually pretty surprised that they’ve last even this long. :) I’ll start to get antsy and have to put them back in alpha order soon. I’m a BIG Amazon Prime user but have yet to try the Subscribe & Save option.

  9. Your shelves are INCREDIBLE. I am seething with jealousy, but also admiration! And um, that Target thing sounds incredible. You know why? Because then you don't spend an extra $100 on crap you don't need but you found wandering around Target! Also, I grabbed Evidence of the Affair, thanks for that heads-up! I REALLY want to read some of her books, and this seems as good a place as any! Hope you have an awesome week!

    1. Well, well see how long those rainbow shelves last... my inner organizational demon is screaming to put them all back in alpha order. :)

Yes! My thoughts exactly about the Target thing. No more wandering the store throwing random stuff into the cart. Cha-Ching!

  10. Your shelves look great! I think the color coded look is really appealing to me- I did it sort of as an experiment recently with some of my books, to see what I thought, and I really liked it! I might have to do it in the future for all of 'em. And that Random is SOOO true!

    1. Cool that you tried out the color coding, too. If you do it to all your shelves maybe you could share a photo!

  11. I’ve thought about trying the drive-up thing. It seems so convenient, and I wouldn’t have to leave my dog home alone. She’s been nervous and clingy since my other dog died. She wants to come everywhere with me. I LOVE your rainbow shelves. I wish I had enough books to do that. Happy October!

  12. I like that color coded bookshelf. It catches the eye. I am happy that you are getting settled and all is going well. You know what another good thing about ordering online and picking up is? You aren’t impulse buying in the store!! Have a wonderful week.

    1. Exactly, Heidi! Target is the worst for that. I wander the store, adding this and adding that... and before I know it there’s another $100 of stuff. And that’s before I even get what I went for. LOL
