The Sunday Post #136

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Caffeinated Book Reviewer.
It's a chance to share news - a post to recap the past week on your blog,
showcase books and things we have received, and share news about what is
coming up on your blog in the week ahead. You can find the info here:

Happy New Year! I hope 2019 is off to a good start for you. Do you start the year with resolutions and goals? I don't tend to make them but there's always that mental checklist of things I want to get done/make happen/experience.

It was back to work this week after taking Christmas week off. But I was off on Tuesday for New Year's Day so that helped ease back into it. :) New Year's Eve was low-key (we took my mom out to dinner at a Japanese steakhouse), and the rest of the week was work, a couple medical appointments, errands and some reading. It was unseasonably warm all week (temps in the 70's) and I am so ready for some winter weather!

If you're determined to whip your bookshelves into shape this year, BookBub shared some beautifully organized examples to inspire you.

They also shared some of the best/most anticipated books coming out in 2019, including: thrillers, sci-fi, YA, and romance. Something for everyone!

And now I'm off to my monthly breakfast with my mom and sisters. Do you have any special plans today?

WHAT I READ IN THE LAST WEEK:

Kind of a middle of the road read for me. I didn't dislike it; didn't love it. I didn't connect to any of the sisters, but there were some good secondary characters and it was a nice enough story.

It was time for a re-read (well, re-listen) to one of my favorite entries in the Addicted/Calloway Sisters series. No matter how times I read or listen, this one never gets old and always packs an emotional punch.

WHAT I'M CURRENTLY READING:

I'm reading an arc of the final book in the de Vincent trilogy which comes out on the 29th. I've been looking forward to Devlin's story and hopefully this one will answer a lot of questions and tie up some loose ends.

WHAT I'M CURRENTLY LISTENING TO:

I downloaded this one on a whim from Hoopla when I was looking for something short and sweet and holiday-ish. I almost passed it by because of the cutsey title (ugh, I have such a pet peeve about cutesy/silly/punny titles) but it's actually a sweet story and I'm enjoying it. Teddy is an absolute sweetheart and grumpy Nick is coming around - and even getting in the holiday spirit. :)

eARC FOR REVIEW:

I loved the previous two books in this series and I'm excited for this one.

How was your week? Any new books? Any news to share?
I'd love to hear about it!

  1. Yeah! We will both be reading On Thin Ice. I hope it lives up to the rest of the series. May your brunch be lovely, as always, and I am all for unseasonably warm. Unfortunately, every time it's warm here, we get buckets of rain, which is always better than snow, but still keeps me indoors.

    1. I'm excited for On Thin Ice. I enjoyed the first two so much! I still have one or two by Cross on my Kindle that I haven't read yet. I need to get to those.

  2. Happy 2019! I cannot WAIT to have bookshelves that I can organize properly. My books are all stacked up in random places in our current apartment. There just isn't enough room!

    1. Oh, I would be lost without my bookshelves! During the move when everything was boxed up for several weeks I missed them! :)

  3. It's supposed to be warm here next week too and I'm all for it as long as we finally get some sunshine to go with the warmth. 2018 was our rainiest year on record and I'm so over it, lol.

I hope you have a lovely brunch today with your family!

    1. It's *finally* supposed to cooler this coming week... at the end of the week, anyway. I crave the cold weather and my family thinks I'm crazy. Ha!

  4. Bwahahahaha Tanya! I love your random picture! I think that's one story that I should have told my kids when I made dough ;-))) I am curious to read your review about the De Vincente boys...I've read the second one but I had no room to read the last ARC. Happy Sunday!

    1. It's been a fun series so far. Loved the first one, really enjoyed the second one (though I had a couple issues with it) and I have high hopes for this latest one. Fingers crossed!

  6. Hurray for a low-key New Year's Eve! That's the best kind, in my opinion. I hope you enjoy your current and upcoming reads! And I totally eat cookie dough. If that's how I go out, at least I'll have something yummy in my tummy. :/

  7. I don't really do resolutions or goals either- I mean, not specifically for New Years. I figure I won't keep half of them anyway so why bother? And New Years Eve was low key here too. I loved it!

I'll have to check those Bookbub lists. I'm still feeling drawn to suspenseful thrillery type reads lately, along with my usual stuff.

    Love that Totally Random!

  8. I liked Better Not Pout too. It was a sweet holiday read.

I'm not a big resolution person either.

  12. Sounds like your year got off to a nice start 😊 I'm not a big resolutions girl either - I'm CONSTANTLY setting goals, so the start of the year is just another time that I set some goals, not special really.
I hope you have a great week!

  13. Low-key New Years are the business. :)
Easing back into work is always good. I was back at work on Thursday and it was painful. I'm really not looking forward to my first full week back this coming week!

I try not to make resolutions but I do like to start the year with some things in mind I'd like to achieve by the end of it... Hmm, maybe I make new years resolutions and just don't call them that? lol. Sometimes the things I'd like are big and life changing (like buy a house) and sometimes they're silly and little, like this year one of my goals is to evolve a difficult Pokemon in the Pokemon go app. 😆

    Have a good week!

    1. This will be my first full week back - since last week was a short one with the holiday. Hopefully we both survive. :)

I like how your not-resolutions run the gamut from big to small. LOL

  14. I return to work tomorrow and actually looking forward to it. Too much time off and I get restless. I don't make resolutions but I do set some year long goals. And usually something I know I can achieve. Happy New Year!

  15. I really enjoyed Better Not Pout, so I'm glad you're enjoying it! I go back to work tomorrow and I am not ready. LOL It will be fine once I'm in the groove again, but it's tough going back.

  16. 70s! That is warm, it's been 60s here and I like it. We eased into things at the end of last week but it's a full schedule week. I've been relaxing and catching up so I think we are ready. Enjoy your new books! Anne - Books of My Heart

    1. Sounds like you've been enjoying some warm(ish) weather, too. I know most people would be jealous of these temps since they're dealing with snow and ice, but our winter is so short that I demand some cold weather! LOL

  18. I'm actually trying to cut down on setting goals, in the hope that my to-do-list will shrink a bit and feel more manageable. Every now and then we just need to feel "done", don't we? :-)
Also, I love the random quote! And I always make my cookie dough egg-free, so it's safe to eat raw ;-)

  20. I've enjoyed Juliet Cross in the past, but I have read her Juniper Falls series. I'll have to check it out. I haven't read any of Krista & Becca Ritchie's books, but I've seen them around a bunch. I should give them a try some time since everyone seems to love them. Enjoy your books, Tanya!

    1. Thanks Rachel! I just love Krista and Becca Ritchie. They're great writers and great people. Their Addicted series grabbed me from the start and I was always dying for the next book in the series. I hated to see it end but now there's kind of a companion series set in the same world so I have more to look forward to. :)
