WWW Wednesday #50 | April 24, 2019

WWW Wednesdays is a meme hosted by Taking on a World of Words.
Just answer three questions and share what you're reading.

Happy Wednesday! We're halfway through the work week... hang in there, friends. (← I typo'ed that at first and called you all fiends LOL) Today is my younger sister's birthday so a great big happy birthday to you, Terri! Can't wait to see you this weekend.

WHAT ARE YOU CURRENTLY READING?

The Year We Fell Down (The Ivy Years #1) - Sarina Bowen
I DNF'd a book last night (grrr... still feeling all annoyed by it) and was desperate for something fun, light, and easy. A sure thing. Sarina Bowen is an absolute go-to author for me. I always connect with her characters, they're rarely angsty, and there's always plenty of humor. Totally in the mood for that. This one is going to be my palate cleanser after that DNF.

In the same vein as just wanting something light and fun, I started the audio book of Intercepted this morning. I must have OD'd on angst and drama lately because all I want is fluff right now. Anyway, I've heard good things about this one so hopefully it delivers a good time.

WHAT DID YOU RECENTLY FINISH READING?

The Unhoneymooners - Christina Lauren
Totally enjoyed it! Y'all probably know that I'm not a huge fan of the hate to love trope - or the fake relationship trope, for that matter - but it totally worked for me here and I was totally loving Olive and Ethan. Their banter - both the snarky kind and the friendly kind - was so off the charts funny and I just loved their dynamic. Two big thumbs up for The Unhoneymooners!

Oh, my heart. This story captured my heart, made me swoon, made me cry, made me hope. I adore Emma Scott so, so much and this one was a perfect example why.

This was a case of like-not-love. I just never fulled warmed to Drew. He was cocky and arrogant and didn't take no for answer (blah blah blah - we've all read this character before) but I felt like there was never anything to soften that. He never really changed. Yeah, he finally figured out he was in love but even then he was still kind of a jerk and was determined to "win" at all costs. I don't know... it was good, but not as good as any of the books in Chase's Royally series.

WHAT DO YOU THINK YOU'LL READ NEXT?

I don't even know. Vacation starts this weekend so I'm trying to plan what I want to read over the next week. I'm definitely in the mood for light and easy but I'm not sure what that entails yet. I'm open to suggestions! :)

What are you currently reading?
I wanna know! :)

  1. Hate to love and fake dating are my keywords so I am excited for the honeymooners!

Drew was super arrogant but Sebastian York's voice made me like him more.

    1. In that case you are sure to love The Unhoneymooners! :)
And you're so right... Sebastian York saved the day and made Drew likable.

  2. I had Intercepted on hold several times from my library and every time it came in I didn't have time to read it lol

I shall try again! I hear it's a lot of fun.

  3. I am so sad about The Year We Fell Down. Cori is one of my favorites. I thought she was incredible, but I wouldn't ever pick up a Sarina Bowen book if I was looking for low angst. I hope Intercepted works better for you. I thought the second book in that series was lower drama, but I still liked Intercepted a lot.

    1. I'm already really liking Corey and Hartley. His gf is a real piece of work. Oy! Sarina's books have never felt overly angsty to me but obviously it's a matter of individual perspective. I'm enjoying Intercepted! Marlee is so full of attitude. :)

  4. I just DNF'd a crime novel that was getting too disturbing and replaced it with a light, entertaining cozy. My soul is happier now :)

    1. I get it. Why suffer through something you aren't enjoying or doesn't work for you.

  5. I hope you find some fun books for vacation! Yay for enjoying The Unhoneymooners even though it has some tropes you don't usually like.

    1. I trust Christina Lauren even when they go with tropes I don't usually enjoy. :)

  6. Hmm, dare I ask the title of the book you DNF'd? I'm happy you have Sarina to turn to. I need to binge on her at some point. Kristen Ashley is typically who I turn to when I need to be pulled out of a rut...a rut of any kind. LOL Off the top of my head I don't have any suggestions for you for "light" books. I've been reading a lot of deep books lately - including Emma Scott - so I'll be paying attention to what you're reading for ideas for me! ;)

    1. The DNF was Until You by Jeannie Moon. Such a disappointment because it seemed like one I would love. But oh my goodness, it really didn't work for me. Ugh. I'm tempted to pick up another Emma Scott even though it's anything but light. LOL I'm just addicted to her stories!

  8. all of these look so good. I want to read The Honeymooners. Sorry Until You did not work for you ;/ I myself have not read it, but know a few that totally adore it.
I've been more and more into romance again lately, maybe it's the weather but definitely reading a lot more.

    1. I've seen great reviews for Until You, and it sure sounded like one that was right up my alley, but... just didn't work for me. *sigh* They can't all be winners, I guess.

I'm never not in the mood for romance. LOL

  9. The Royally series was infinitely better in my opinion. It's the only reason I read Tangled to begin with, but Drew got on my nerves. He admitted to being a cocky jerk, but he owned that about himself. He even enjoyed it most of the time. He really pissed me off when he hurt her for no reason, and then expected her to forgive him because he said sorry. He also wouldn't take no for an answer, which AAAHH. Dude needed to back the hell off. Okay, phew. That book really made me angry by the end.

I'm happy you enjoyed the Emma Scott book! It's one I've been looking forward to. <3

    1. So agree with your thoughts on Drew! I don't mind if a guy is cocky and arrogant but I do like to see some changes in him throughout the book. Like, he softens up somewhat once he's with the girl. But I never saw that with Drew... he was still kind of a jerk and pulled out all the stops to "win" even when he would tell him to back off.

I just adore Emma Scott. I'm so glad there are still more of hers left for me to read.

  10. How to save a life has such a gorgeous cover! I'm currently reading, you guessed it, fantasy books :D And I have actually just DNFed a fantasy book as well. I hope you're well :)

  11. DNF always need a good follow up to get you out of that blergh book mood. But Sarina Bowen is a goo dchoice, and I loved Intercepted (although it had flaws).
