WWW Wednesday #53 | June 19, 2019

WWW Wednesdays is a meme hosted by Taking on a World of Words.
Just answer three questions and share what you're reading.

WHAT ARE YOU CURRENTLY READING?

Superfan (Brooklyn #3) - Sarina Bowen
I'm flying through this one (a total contrast to the almost two weeks it took me to read Red, White & Royal Blue!) and am already halfway through it. It kind of kills a piece of my soul to read book #3 in a series without having read the other books, but I just didn't have time to squeeze those in and still be able to get this one read by release day (June 25). I'll definitely go back and read the first two books, though. Because Sarina Bowen and because hockey. Although, there has been basically zero hockey in this one so far (womp womp). Still, I'm loving Silas... and I'm warming to Delilah. :)

WHAT DID YOU RECENTLY FINISH READING?

Red, White & Royal Blue - Casey McQuiston
Him (Him #1) - Sarina Bowen & Elle Kennedy

Yes, it took me a day shy of two weeks to read Red, White & Royal Blue, but don't take that as a negative sign. Because I loved this story that managed to strike the perfect balance between romance + politics + sexuality/identity + humor + heartbreak.

I also just finished my 673rd re-listen of Him. (Okay, maybe a slight exaggeration. It's probably more like the 9th or 10th.) I never get tired of Wes and Jamie's story and the narration by Teddy Hamilton and Jacob Morgan is sheer perfection. This is a total comfort read for me.

WHAT DO YOU THINK YOU'LL READ NEXT?

Raze will probably be next up since it's an arc that releases on July 2. Birthday and There's Something About Sweetie are both library loans and it's anyone's guess if I'll get to them before they're due back. If I can only get to one of them it will be Birthday. I've seen some stunning reviews for that one and the premise really grabs me. I requested Sweetie on a whim when a blogger was raving about it but, truth be told, Menon's brand of YA just isn't really for me. I enjoyed Dimple, but Menon's style seems to be more of the cute/sweet YA and I gravitate more to the gritty/emotional stories (think Katie McGarry). But we'll see... maybe I'll manage to get to all three books.

What are you currently reading?
I wanna know! :)

  1. I'm so glad you're having a good reading week! Superfan wasn't my favorite Sarina book, but I enjoyed her writing a lot. And ahh Him! I need to re-read it soon, maybe this summer!
Sweetie is definitely a cuter YA book, but it's got some serious themes. I hope you have better luck with it!

    1. No, Superfan didn't blow me away and I wouldn't say I was totally and completely tied up in Silas and Delilah. But it's still Sarina Bowen and she's a total go-to author for me. Love her. :)

  3. It took me awhile to read Red, White, and Royal Blue too but I did love it! And I love that you re-read Him all the time. It's a goodie!! I need to get to Raze soon as well - loved the first two.

    1. Him and Us are all-time faves. I just love those guys (and all the secondary characters!) so much!

  4. I must admit that I have zero interest in There's Something About Sweetie and I'm sad to say it's because I detest the cover and I can't quite put my finger on why! It's fun. She's a pretty girl smiling nice and big and happy... It should make you feel joyful or something right? But every time I see it I feel irritated, like what's she so happy about?! lol

Raze sounds good. I'm interested in hearing what you think of it.

    1. Oh my goodness, that is so funny about the cover. Who knows what little things set us off, I guess. For you, it's that #@$! happy girl on the Sweetie cover. LOL

  5. Curious what you will think about Sweetie. It is kind of fluffy like D&R but also a bit more serious.

Him was very good and Birthday interest me too. I'm listening to American Dreamer (M?M romance) right now and it's very good.

    1. I didn't get around to Sweetie before it was due back at the library. I'll have to try again another time.

  6. I am so jealous of everyone reading Superfan. I heard the hero is fabulous. I'm excited. And, silly, it's your 674th reread of Him. =) You know I love fun and cute, and Menon is a perfect match for me. I hope you find Sweeties enjoyable.

    1. Superfan was all kinds of Sarina Bowen goodness. I just love her. And I guess I'm on a total Sarina Bowen kick because I binged Him and Us on audio and this morning I started a re-listen of Good Boy. Can't get enough of those characters! :)

    1. It wasn't quite the 5 star read for me that it has been for others, but I still totally enjoyed it.

  8. I've wanted to read Red, White & Royal Blue for a while now because I see it all the time in my Goodreads timeline and my Twitter timeline. I'm so tempted to buy.

    1. It would definitely be worth buying! I loved the mix of great characters, romance and politics.

  9. Yay, I'm so glad to hear you enjoyed Red White and Royal Blue! Sweetie was a great read for me, but I can understand not being into Menon's books. I always enjoy them but have to be in the mood specifically for that kind of YA before I'll read one. The good news is that it is a quick read if you're trying to meet a library deadline.

    1. Same here, Suzanne. Those kind of cutsey YA's are definitely mood reads for me.

  10. I'm loving the Brooklyn bruisers series right now but I'm confused about which number super fan is, because the list I have has it has book number 6!

    1. Yes! So confused with the numbering. Some sites have the books numbered 1-6. Others have it like Brooklyn Bruisers as 1-3 and then the next three books are Brooklyn 1-3. So weird. I've heard it has something to do with the fact that the first three were traditionally published and the latest three were self-pubbed but who knows.

  11. I want to read Superfan! I enjoyed Dimple, but I'm not motivated to read Sweetie. I sometimes grab up books on a whim and then I'm sorry for it later. At least it's a library lend and not an arc where you have to explain why you're not reading it, lol! :)

    1. Superfan was wonderful. Because Silas. :) I liked Dimple well enough but I didn't think it lived up to all the crazy hype.
