Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl.
This week's Top Ten Tuesday topic:
Best New (To Me) Authors of 2019
This week's topic is actually bookish discoveries of 2019 but I'm twisting (or refining) that slightly to focus on the best new-to-me authors I read throughout the year. A couple were debut authors so they were new to everyone, and some were established authors and I was just late to the game. #storyofmylife 😉
BRITTAINY C. CHERRY
Books read by the author in 2019: The Air He Breathes
I only read this one book by Cherry last year but I will absolutely be reading more from her this year.
LORELEI JAMES
Books read by the author in 2019: I Want You Back
I discovered Lorelei James because I requested an ARC of I Want You Back on a whim. It totally surpassed my expectations and now I want to go back and read the books in the previous series (I Want You Back was the first book in a spin-off series).
ALEXA MARTIN
Books read by the author in 2019: Intercepted, Fumbled, Blitzed
What a find Alexa Martin was! While Blitzed was more hit than miss for me, I loved both Intercepted and Fumbled. (They can't all be 5-star reads, right?) I am excited to see what 2020 brings from Martin!
KENNEDY RYAN
Books read by the author in 2019: Long Shot, Block Shot, Hook Shot, Flow, Grip
Kennedy Ryan became a new favorite in 2019 with her well-developed characters that felt completely authentic and her emotional storytelling.
MASON DEAVER
Books read by the author in 2019: I Wish You All the Best
Deaver's debut last year pulled me right in and I loved the warmth and heart in how they told Ben's story.
CASEY MCQUISTON
Books read by the author in 2019: Red, White & Royal Blue
McQuiston was another debut author who took me by surprise. RW&RB was smart and funny and clever and swoony.
TARA SIVEC (with Andi Arndt)
Books read by the author in 2019: Heidi's Guide to Four Letter Words
Tara Sivec was already on my radar (and several of her books on my Kindle) when I listened to the audio book of Heidi's Guide. Now I really want to read the other books I own by Sivec - and hopefully Andi Arndt will write more, too.
JEN DELUCA
Books read by the author in 2019: Well Met
DeLuca's Well Met was one of my biggest surprises of the year. So funny and sweet and charming. I am ridiculously excited for DeLuca's next release in September.
EMILY GIFFIN
Books read by the author in 2019: All We Ever Wanted
I'd seen Giffin's books around for years but 2019 was my first time picking one up. I was so impressed with All We Ever Wanted that I gifted copies to my mom and sisters for Christmas. I'll definitely be reading more from her this year.
RAEANNE THAYNE
Books read by the author in 2019: Coming Home for Christmas
RaeAnne Thayne is a mainstay in contemporary romance with over 200 titles on Goodreads, but I wasn't introducted to her writing until I picked up Coming Home for Christmas when I had the urge for a holiday read last December. While the small town/sweet romance was not my usual (sub)genre, I found that it was exactly what I needed at the time. And it definitely made me want to explore more from Thayne.

Have you read any of these authors?
Who was your favorite new (to you) author in 2019?
Who was your favorite new (to you) author in 2019?
Wow! What an impressive list of new authors!!! I love Cherry, Martin, Ryan, and James.
ReplyDeleteI love that several of these authors have lengthy backlists I can dive into. :)
DeleteThat's always fun! I am currently trying to read more of Cherry's backlist.
DeleteI read a few of these author before. I really enjoyed McQuiston's Red, White & Royal Blue and Heidi's Guide was a hoot! I think one of my big finds in 2019 was Peter McLean's War for the Roses series. It is a really dark fantasy and I loved both books that I read last year.
ReplyDeleteIt's such a great feeling to discover a new author that you click with. Especially when they have a big backlist. :)
DeleteSome of these are in my TBR! I'll need to bump them up.
ReplyDeleteMy TBR grows so much faster than I can read. LOL
DeleteI've read a few of these - Long Shot (my fave), Well Met, Red White & Royal Blue & Heidi's Guide.
ReplyDeleteIntercepted and I Wish You All the Best have been on my to-read list for a while now.
Karen @ For What It's worth
Intercepted remains my favorite by Alexa Martin. I hope you'll love it when you get to it!
DeleteI love finding new authors. :) Red white & Royal Blue seems to be getting lots of love!
ReplyDeleteRed, White & Royal Blue seemed to be *everywhere* last year!
DeleteWell Met and RW&RB were two debuts I read last year and really loved. I will definitely be reading more from those authors. I adore Ryan and Martin, and Cherry always wallops me in the feels with her books.
ReplyDeleteI'm so excited to see what comes next from DeLuca and McQuiston!
Deletethe only one I recognized is this book. Heidi's Guide to Four Letter Words. I haven't read her books yet but I did recently put this book on my list.
ReplyDeleteHeidi's Guide was such a fun rom-com. And the audio version was a great way to experience it. :)
DeleteI haven't read any of these authors, so you're not the only reader who's late to the party! I'm glad you found some new ones to enjoy in 2019 - it's always fun to make those kinds of discoveries.
ReplyDeleteHappy TTT!

Thanks Susan. It's always exciting to find new authors to enjoy.
DeleteMcQuiston, Deluca, and Giffin were all new to me in 2019 and I loved all three of them. I'm especially looking forward to reading more of Giffin's books.
ReplyDeleteReading All We Ever Wanted by Giffin had me instantly thinking: why have I never read anything by this woman?! I can't wait to read more from her.
DeleteI LOVE Lorelei James' hockey/sports series! I hope you enjoy it if you get to it. Rae Anne Thayne is also a recent discovery for me, and I've really enjoyed a few of her books. One was a novella and it was just so lovely for a winter/holiday read: The Rancher's Christmas Song. Need to get to Brittainy Cherry someday. :)
ReplyDeleteI had never even heard of her before! Now I'm excited to go back and get the other siblings stories.
DeleteKennedy Ryan is such a promising author. She's a new-to-me too and even though I've only read Long Shot last year, I still want to continue the entire Hoops Series.
ReplyDeleteLong Shot is still my favorite by her but the rest of the Hoops series was still very good. And I loved getting little cameos of Iris and August in the other books! :)
DeleteYay, Emily Giffin is one of my favorite authors! I've already preordered her new book that's coming out in June!
ReplyDeleteThat's awesome! I was so, so impressed with All We Ever Wanted and can't wait to read more.
DeleteI really need to read Brittainy C. Cherry! I bought one of her books years ago, Loving Mr. Daniels, and I still need to read it.
ReplyDeleteJen @ Star-Crossed Book Blog
I need to read that one, too, Jen. After loving The Air He Breathes so much I have really high hopes for it!
DeleteLOVED Red, White, and Royal Blue. I still need to read I Wish You All the Best. That should be my next auction - so look out for an autographed, annotated copy being auctioned soon!

Oh wow! That would be wonderful to have! I'll definitely be watching for that one, Lauren.
DeleteI am so happy that you love Brittainy!!! And two of my favorites new to me in 2019 were Ruta Sepetys and Meredith Russo!
ReplyDeleteMeredith Russo was another new one for me in 2019. Birthday was amazing!
DeleteJen Deluca was among my new-to-me favorites last year for sure. I'm looking forward to reading Red, White & Royal Blue soon!!
ReplyDeleteI hope it'll be a hit for you, Ali!
DeleteThe only author on this list I've read is Kennedy Ryan but there are many here that I want to try! This year I'm aiming for: Well Met, Red White and Royal Blue, and Intercepted. 😃
ReplyDeleteI can't wait to see what you think of those, Nicci! Especially Well Met and Intercepted.
DeleteBRITTAINY C. CHERRY is soooo amazing!! I've read 2-4 books by her (can't remember them all lol) and loved all of them. I can't wait to continue reading her backlist.
ReplyDeleteI loved The Air He Breathes last year and I've heard a lot of people enjoyed the second book (something with Gravity in the title) even more.
