Top Ten Tuesday: Most Recent Additions

This week's Top Ten Tuesday topic:
Most Recent Additions to My Book Shelves

My book buying has lessened considerably over the last year or two as I've concentrated more and more on reading from my own shelves. I have so many books that I am genuinely excited to read, ones that I am certain I will love, and yet they were pushed aside time and time again in favor of new releases and ARC's. A year or two ago I decided enough was enough. I was tired of ignoring my own books. And it has seriously made my book-loving little heart happy.

But that also means I buy less books these days. Many of my new additions are freebies from author newsletters. (Can we take a moment to celebrate the joy that is free books?) There are exceptions, of course: a pre-order from a favorite author, an audiobook, or the occasional rare ARC. So here are the most recent additions to my shelves/Kindle/etc.

Wrecked Palace by Catherine Cowles - I've been meaning to try something by Cowles for ages, especially since her books give me a Devney Perry kind of vibe. Cowles offered this one for free.

Traded by Tess Thompson - This was offered in a recent author newsletter, either Tess's or someone else, I can't recall. The synopsis grabbed me so I nabbed this freebie.

The Summer Proposal by Vi Keelend - I pre-ordered the audio version of this one and it was just released yesterday. Can't wait to start it.

Like the Wind by J. Bengtsson - Like the Wind is the only Bengtsson book I have left to read *sob*. I bought the audio version because hers are always so well done.

Super Hot Wingman by Sarina Bowen & Lauren Blakely - I listened to this one on Sarina's YouTube channel but also downloaded the Kindle version.

Tied by Carian Cole - I listened to Tied last year on audio as a library loan and loved it. One of my favorites of the year. I bought my own copy from Audible because I know I'm going to listen to this one again.

I Really Needed This Today by Hoda Kotb - I received a hardcover copy of this one as a Christmas gift from my sister.

Make Me Stay by Kennedy Fox - Kennedy Fox has become a real favorite over the last year. They offered Make Me Stay for free in a recent newsletter.

Baby, It's Cold Outside by Kait Nolan - This newsletter freebie from Kait Nolan sounds like the perfect wintery read.

The Summer Place by Jennifer Weiner - The sole ARC on the list. The publisher sent me a widget since I've reviewed Weiner's last three or four releases. Very excited for this one!

DO YOU OWN ANY OF THESE?

  1. The Summer Place is on my list this week too. I've also been trying (but sometimes failing, lol) to request less ARCs in favor of reading from my own shelves but couldn't resist the Weiner book when it was offered.

    1. Same here, Suzanne. I make exceptions for a small handful of authors.

  2. I'm really hoping to tackle more of my backlist this year and I'm hoping it doesn't get eclipsed by the new additions to my collection like it seems to happen every year! 😂 I also just downloaded the ARC for The Summer Place and I'm looking forward to it. I hope you enjoy all these books 😃

  9. I'm the same these days except most of mine are coming from the library (Libby or Hoopla) & audiobooks from Libro.fm

  10. Good for you for sticking to your guns! I always tell myself I'm not going to buy new books and then...I do. I need to be better at listening to myself, LOL.

    Happy TTT!

  11. I am curious about the Weiner book. I have liked her books in the past. The Keeland one calling to me as well. Hope they are all amazing!

    1. Keeland is not an auto-buy for me but the synopsis for this one really grabbed me.

  12. Hopefully I can be as successful as you have been reading your own books. Even so, there are a few good books here you've got. I think all my purchases have been shared already on blog, I am trying to use Kindle Unlimited a little more as well so I've made good use of it this year (can I say that when we're only 2 weeks into the year?)

    1. You can definitely say that at just two weeks in. Claim it as a victory! :)

  13. I'm so impressed that you're actually sticking to the resolution to read books you own, Tanya. I try that every year with varying degrees of success. LOL I picked up quite a few of the books as you in the last week. Maybe we should buddy read one so we can remove it from the TBR shelf and put it on the Read shelf. ;)

    1. Well, I have varying degrees of success, but it's always a top priority. :)
Buddy reads are fun but I must admit I don't have the best luck with them. My reading time is limited so my reading buddy always seems to finish the book in 24 hours of so and I'm pulling up the rear 4-5 days later. LOL By the time I'm ready to discuss they've read another 3 books. Haha!

  14. Super Hot Wingman made my list today, too! I've already read it as well. I could put Like the Wind on there now because I just downloaded it from KU after finishing Ripple Effect. I hope you love these!

    1. I'm holding off on Like the Wind because it's the only book I have to left by Bengtsson. For now I like knowing I still have one to anticipate. LOL

  15. You can't beat free! They pile up too though. LOL These all sound great. I hope you enjoy them!

    1. That they do! But I don't feel as bad when they're free. :)

  16. When it comes to NEW books I only buy them if my library doesn't carry it. And I have quite a few subscriptions through that so its not common, but I am also working on building my physical library of some of my favorite authors and books. But I stay to my monthly book budget. But they can build up so quickly. I have so many goodies on my kindle that I want to get to.

    1. Keeland is one that I read occasionally but she's not like an auto-buy author. But when I got her newsletter about The Summer Proposal I dropped everything and preordered the audio. It sounds amazing!

  19. I'm really wanting to read Tied!! Good to hear that the audio was awesome.

  20. There are a few here that I want to check out! One of these days I'll get around to reading a Sarina Bowen book!

    1. Bowen is definitely one of my gold star, unicorn authors. :)

  21. Yay for author newsletters and free books! I love when those show up. I was invited to read Weiner's latest, as well since I've also reviewed her last few. But she tends to be a hit or miss for me. I'm still trying to decide if I should read this one. Hopefully you'll read it soon and your review will help me decide. ;)

    1. LOL I've done that before with blogger friends... waited to see what they thought to help me decide. Unfortunately, it's probably going to be a while before I start Weiner's book since it doesn't release until May. :)

  22. Sounds like stepping back from ARCs was a good choice for you, Tanya. I feel like I've backed off a bit, too. I've been requesting more from the library instead of requesting an ARC and that way if it comes up and I'm not feeling it I don't feel obligated.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Exactly. I've always been a mood reader but it's only increased over the years. I want to read what I want, when I want. ARCs come with an obligation and often I just don't want to read and review on a timeline.

  23. The cover of Wrecked Palace is really pretty; I had to check it out... and okay, that whole series kinda calls to me. I've not heard of this author but now I'm intrigued.

And dang, I have really got to get myself signed up for more author newsletters. One thing I've learned this year from TTT is that I am missing out on a boatload of Content by only paying attention to the finished book product, ignoring the world of digital marketing entirely. I figured it was all just ARCs and maybe sneak peeks at first chapters; had no idea there was so much out there.

    1. Subscribing to author newsletters is an amazing way to try out their content - often for free! Sometimes they share excerpts in the newsletter and that's a good way to help me decide if their writing is something I gel with.

  24. I always download all of the author freebies but rarely read them. I would really like to focus more on my own shelves like you do. Finding a good balance is hard! I hope that you enjoy all of these!

    1. It is hard to find a balance... if only someone would pay us to stay home and read all the books! :)
