The Sunday Post #343 | July 16, 2023

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Caffeinated Book Reviewer.
It's a chance to share news: a post to recap the past week on your blog, showcase books,
and share what's coming up on your blog in the week ahead.

THE WEEK IN REVIEW

I have been in such a weird mood all week. I didn't feel like blogging (hence, no posts). I didn't feel like writing any reviews. And, while I did sometimes feel like reading, I started - and set aside - at least 4 books without ever finding something I wanted to read. The only thing I completed was an 80-page novella. So yeah, that's where I'm at with my reading. I finally tried one that caught my interest and I'm enjoying it, but even so I'm only reading a few pages at a time. I don't know what my deal is. 😕

The Husband is back to 100% and having no back pain. Thanks for all the well wishes last week!

It is suffocatingly hot and I am truly over it. That is all.

I just love the interaction between this little girl and her dad (an orthopedic surgeon). The way he praises her and never talks down to her... love it! Summer is quite the smarty. 😊

@janylsmithesq Every night our 3yo asks Daddy what bones he fixed that day. I don’t know the correct anatomical term, but “ball ankle” sounds good to me! #toddlersoftiktok #doctorsoftiktok #smartbabygirl #futuredoctor #orthopedicsurgeon #toocute ♬ original sound - janylsmith

This week's throwback song is Love Somebody (1984) by Rick Springfield. Bonus points if you remember the movie Hard to Hold. 😉

  1. I am sorry you were in a weird mood Tanya! But glad that your husband is fully back to health! I didn't read a lot either except on my train rides to and from London ;-)

    1. Thanks Sophie! It's no wonder you didn't get much reading done in London. Too much to see and do! :)

  3. I have had weeks where I just don't feel like doing anything. I remember one week where I started a different book every day since nothing held my attention. Hopefully, you will feel more like yourself next week.

  5. Sometimes when I'm in a reading funk I'll watch TV instead or I'll start reading a genre I don't read often. Sorry to hear your reading is weird. I hate that! Happy to hear the hubby feeling better! We've been having some hot days, but nothing like where I used to live. Still, not a fan of anything over 90 and we hit 103 yesterday. Today will be hotter. :(

I totally remember Hard to Hold! Rick Springfield was one of my first concerts I went to. I think I was 14yrs? I had the biggest crush on him! Love his music!

That Target meme is so true, lol! Stay cool, Tanya!

    1. Rachel - I did finally find a book that it holding my interest. So there's progress. :) 103 degrees... oh my goodness, that's miserable. I love that Rick Springfield was your first concert! He was such a heart throb back in the day (when he was also a soap star lol).

  6. I am sure you knew I would remember this movie. The 80s forever! Glad to hear the hubs made a 100% recover. Lucky guy! If it makes you feel any better, it's unbearable in NJ too. In fact, it's like 1000% humidity and it keeps raining, flash floods and all. I hope your reading picks up. I have been there where nothing seems to work.

    1. Sam - I had NO doubt that you would remember the movie. We are like 80's twins. :) Ugh, the humidity is the worst. Makes the heat so much more unbearable. Last week was definitely one of those weeks where no books were working for me. Better luck this week!

    1. Alicia - I wish I could say we were getting a break from the heat here, but this week is supposed to be the hottest of the year so far. Ugh!

  8. So glad your husband is better. Back pain is no fun. Our heat is about the same as every year, just more rain. Better for the garden, but more mowing. I do fine with reading I think because I change up my genres so much.

  11. Happy Sunday! I am so sad you are struggling with blogging and reading things. It can be hard sometimes if you have outside factors that could be affecting it. Just be with your husband and do some self care. Thats what has helped me in the past.

    1. Renee - I know, the struggle has been real lately. :) But I'm just going with it and not trying to force myself to read or blog. I'll get back in my groove soon, I'm sure. :)

  12. I had to laugh at the random. Target is so good at telling me what I needed and normally I had no idea! So glad your husband is back pain free! I find myself in slumps frequently in the summer. I think it's the heat. Have a great week!

    1. Katherine - Isn't that the truth? Target will always tell you what you need. LOL

  13. I'm still doing plenty of reading but struggling to keep up with blogging. Every time I sit down to write a post, I get a couple sentences done and walk away....just not interested right now. Sheesh, I spend all this time making connections and loving the community I've become a part of and then......I'm letting it wither away. Well, guess I'll check back in when the energy allows. :) Hope you slump is short lived.

    1. Terrie - I'm just trying not to force it, either the reading or the blogging. If I'm not enjoying it, forcing it sure won't help. Hopefully we'll both find our groove again very soon!

  14. I'm glad your husband is back to 100%.
I know what you mean about finding something to read. I read Yarros's In the Likely Event and I think it gave me a hangover. I'm having a hard time reading the book I started next and it's not like it isn't good or anything.

    1. Deanna - My mom finished In the Likely Event over the weekend and immediately called to tell me I had to read it. I had to stop her from telling me the entire story start to finish, which she will do at the drop of a hat (oops, no need to read that book/see that movie!). Hopefully I'll get to it soon... without the book hangover!

  15. I do remember the movie Hard to Hold! But then I was a huge Rick Springfield fan back in the day. I even had a cassette of that movie's soundtrack. :D And I'm sorry you've been in such a reading funk. Or slump. Or whatever it is. Those are the worst. Hope you find a good book to pull you out of it. And some cooler temps all around would be nice. I'm over all the heat, too.

  16. I did not get much reading done either, but that was my trip! lol I have a few YA books I still need to read for my library committee, but most of them are not grabbing me! Ugh! Hope you have a good week and find something to read that you feel like sticking with!

  17. I'm over the heat too! My husband have recommitted to a better diet and consistent exercise since his stint in the hospital last month. The heat makes it tough to convince us to get outside for a run, but we're doing it! I'm down about 15 lbs so far, but I still have a long way to go. I'm finding audiobooks are the best motivation to get out there and exercise. I've been in a bit of a funk with my physical books though. I just can't seem to find something that holds my attention. Wishing you better luck in the new week!

    1. Ethan - That's so great that you and your husband are making some better health changes. It's not always easy but worth it in the long run. It can be challenging in this heat, though!
