WWW Wednesday #9 | June 6, 2018

WWW Wednesdays is a meme hosted by Taking on a World of Words.
Just answer three questions and share what you're reading.

WHAT ARE YOU CURRENTLY READING?

Well, technically I haven't started this one yet but, assuming I find a few minutes to read today, The Fragile Ordinary is what I'll be picking up. An angsty YA contemporary set in Edinburgh, Scotland? Bring it on!

WHAT DID YOU RECENTLY FINISH READING?
I just finished One Small Thing last night and I seriously loved it. While it wrapped up a little too abruptly for me, I practically inhaled this one and I could keep reading about Chase Donnelly until the end of time.

WHAT DO YOU THINK YOU'LL READ NEXT?

It's a toss-up. I might be on YA overload by the time I finish The Fragile Ordinary. That will make 4 YA books in a row. I might be positively desperate for an adult novel. If that's the case, I'll likely pick up The Boy & His Ribbon. If I still have another YA read in me, I'll continue with the Covenant series by starting book three, Deity.

What are you currently reading?
I wanna know! :)

  2. Sometimes it's good to choose a different age group if you've been reading one for long. I've been trying to mix YA, MG, and Adult lately. Glad you loved your latest read!

    1. Totally agree, Lauren. I especially get burned out on YA easily so reading 4 in a row is unusual for me.

  3. I love the covenant series. It was my first JLA discovery and it's still my favourite of hers but it's ending is a kicker! Be warned. :)

I saw The Fragile Ordinary available for review a while ago and was so tempted to request it but it's set in Edinburgh and I'm too nervous to read it... Edinburgh's home. It doesn't matter how many years I live away from it, it's my soul city and books set in Edinburgh make me so homesick, if written well, or ragey if written poorly. Samantha Young is from Scotland so I'm betting it'd be the homesick and I'm not up for that at the moment, lol! I really hope you enjoy it!

    1. Ack! Now I'm nervous for the ending and I've only read the first two books. Ha!

Aw, I see what you mean about Edinburgh settings. :( Either way, it might not sit well. If it makes you feel any better, I will say that I wasn't wowed by The Fragile Ordinary. The main character felt relatable so I was optimistic, but overall it fell flat for me.

  4. Oooh, glad One Small Thing was good. I was worried after seeing some reviews, but I totally trust you. I want to read the Samantha Young book too. I have only read the Into the Deep duology, but I really liked it, and want to read more of her books.

    1. Reading One Small Thing and The Fragile Ordinary back to back meant I was constantly comparing... and The Fragile Ordinary kept falling short, unfortunately. I had high hopes because the MC was ridiculously relatable. (That *was* 16 year old me.) But I was never sold on the connection/romance between she and the guy, and the storytelling felt like all telling and no showing. It made for a story that just felt like one info-dump after another.

    2. One Small Thing was so worth the read. Really loved it.
I think The Fragile Ordinary paled in comparison since I read them back to back. It just didn't stand up to One Small Thing.

    1. One Small Thing was so, so good! The Fragile Ordinary was okay... but I think reading it right after One Small Thing made me compare the two a lot... and it didn't win.

    1. It's crazy how long that series has been sitting on my shelf - especially since JLA is one of my favorites!

  10. So happy you liked One Small Thing. It wasn't my favorite sadly :( I found it a bit too predictable :(
