Top Ten Tuesday: Favorite Books From My Favorite Genre (Contemporary Romance)

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl.

This week's Top Ten Tuesday topic:
Books From My Favorite Genre

At first glance this week's topic is a cakewalk. I get to just wallow in the love for my favorite genre? I can become a pile of mush and goo and I revisit all my favorite swoony reads? Too easy!

Ha! Not so fast, Sunshine. It's contemporary romance. It's my favorite genre. So I have somewhere in the ballpark of 1,492 "favorites." How can I choose just 10?! This isn't easy, it's torture! Sooo, don't be surprised when I refuse to stop at ten... :)

These are all contemporary romances but I'm splitting them up into sub-genres.

FEEL-GOOD ROMANCE

SPANS MANY YEARS ROMANCE

MADE MY HEART HURT ROMANCE

ALL-TIME FAVORITE ROMANCE

So there you have it - my favorite books from my favorite genre.
And yeah, there are 14 instead of 10.

Do we share any of the same favorites?

  1. How old were you when you started reading romance novels?

    1. Oh gosh, I have no idea. Teens... 20's? Something like that. :)

  2. Choosing favorites is always hard. I feel like if I choose wrong, I'm going to have the manifestation of 50 other books in my head groaning about not being picked. I don't think I've read any of your books, but they look interesting. I might just have to check out Love and Other Words. :) Great list!

    Here's my TTT post.

    1. It's been 5-6 years since I read Easy and it was one of those books that became an instant favorite. That story is so special to me. I hope you'll love it when you read it!

  5. Over not read 5 of them but own 2 of those. All the rest I have read and agree!!!! Those are some of my all time favs - Attachments is probably 1!

    1. I think Attachments is the first I ever read by Rowell and it's still my favorite. Such a feel-good story.

    1. Loved Attachments and One Day in December!

    2. Easy is kind of old-school new adult at this point LOL It's probably been 6 years or so since I read it, but it became an instant favorite. The two main characters felt so realistic and were such good people.

And Attachments and One Day in December were both so good! :)

  9. Long Shot gutted me but basically anything by Mia Sheridan is going to make me ugly cry so I have to be in the right mindset for those! Amy Harmon is another one.. love her too.

    1. Mia Sheridan makes me cry every time. But she always leaves me feeling hope so I'm not totally destroyed. :) Amy Harmon is another one like that. From Sand is Ash is a big favorite but it didn't fit into the contemporary genre.

  10. Archer and OMG Easy!!!! I loved these two!!! But yes it's hard to choose only 10 in your favorite genre Tanya!

    1. Choosing 10 was impossible! Which is why I didn't stop at 10. LOL Just seeing the covers for Archer and Easy makes me want to reread them both.

  11. Finally! A contemporary list. I read 6 of these. One Day in December, Attachments, Love and Other Words, and Josh & Hazel are all favorites of mine. I will forever recommend these books to people. I enjoyed Long Shot, but it was so painful. Ugly Love was another ugly cry book too, but that's what I expect from CoHo.

    1. I don't know what it says about me, but those ugly cry books (like Long Shot and Ugly Love) are my favorite kind of read. Super emotional and angsty... I'm there for it!

  12. You have one of my favorite romances of all time up there and that's the Addicted series by Becca & Krista Richie. I absolutely love those books. Great list.

    1. The Addicted series is probably my favorite contemporary series ever. Those characters all came to life for me.

  13. One True Loves is a favorite of mine too, and I have both of the Christina Lauren books sitting here waiting for me to read them.

  14. I can't even imagine having to boil my favorite genre "thrillers" down to just 10. I love the way you categorized them! I think 14 is close enough haha

    1. It was tough, Ethan! I figured stopping at 14 was as good as it was going to get. :)

  15. I was really impressed with the Taylor Jenkins- Reid book I read- I would totally read more of her stuff (and probably will soon). One Day in December looks cute, and I've been wanting to read more Rowell also.

    1. If I remember correctly, Attachments was the first I read by Rowell. It's my favorite of her adult novels (Landline didn't thrill me).

  16. Thanks for sharing your favorites!! One of these days I'm going to read Before We Were Strangers---so many people have raved about that book! I have to admit that I was NOT a fan of Ugly Love; it was definitely my least favorite Hoover book. For me, it was just a bit too heavy on the ugly and light on the love. LOL!

    1. I think Ugly Love is one of Hoover's that's a love-it or hate-it book. I know a lot of people who truly did not like that one. I hope you get a chance to read Before We Were Strangers soon! It's still my favorite by Carlino.

  17. We so do Tanya! Ugly Love almost broke me in the end. Have you read Hopeless? I tend to enjoy her young adult books more so than new adult. She's quite funny and so far that hasn't really come across with her new adult reads. Easy is another I really enjoyed. I think it might have even been one of the first new adult books I'd discovered way back when. Can't wait to check out more of your recommendations Tanya, great list!

    1. Ugly Love was the second book I read from CoHo and is still a favorite. It killed me... but I loved it. :) And yes to Hopeless! Loved it. Plus the follow-up Losing Hope and the novella Finding Cinderella. I think Too Late is the only one of Colleen's that I haven't read yet. Love her!

  18. Easy is one of my all-time favorites, too! So is Josh & Hazel's Archer's Voice and Attachments! Great list here, Tanya! :)

    1. Easy was just amazing. Did you read Lucas's book, Breakable? I heard so many people call it the same story just from his POV but it wasn't that at all. It was more about his background before he even met Jacqueline. It was as good as Easy to me.

  19. I love how you broke these down into sub categories. The organizer in me love it lol!!! I've been dying to read One True Loves - Taylor Jenkins Reid for soooo long now. You'd think I'd just pick it up but nope lol!!! Love your list. Writing these down so I can add them to my list to try soonish.

  20. I still have Love and Other Words to read so I'm glad to see that it made your list. I adored Josh & Hazel so that's another great addition to your list. I'm going to have to check the others that I haven't read. Great list though! :)

The cover for One Day In December just screams at me to buy it. Maybe I'll give in and do that...
