Finally a break from the heat! *the crowd cheers*
We have a front coming in that is going to drop 2-6 inches of rain over the next couple days and temps will drop from the high 90's to the low-to-mid 80's. I'm one happy girl!
WHAT ARE YOU CURRENTLY READING?
Hope and Other Punch Lines - Julie Buxbaum
The very day I picked this one up I started to feel the slight stirrings of a reading slump. Ack! Nothing at all to do with the book but I promptly set it aside and read absolutely nothing for two or three days. That seemed to do the trick - the little break was just what I needed - and on Monday I started reading this one in earnest. I'm about 120 pages in and even though I'm enjoying it, I'm already convinced it's going to break my heart.
WHAT DID YOU RECENTLY FINISH READING?
Lora Richardson did it again and delivered the sweetest, most heartwarming YA contemporary I've read since... well, since she released Vanishing Summer back in March. :) I really loved main character Meredith and I'm already excited for Lora's next release which focuses on a side character from this book.
WHAT DO YOU THINK YOU'LL READ NEXT?
I still plan on picking up The Last Post when I finish Hope and Other Punch Lines. I'm a little apprehensive because of the rather lukewarm reviews, but I loved what I've read by Carlino so far so I'm hoping to be wowed.
What are you currently reading?
I wanna know! :)
I wanna know! :)
First time I'm hearing about her, but I looked up Lora Richardson, and Vanishing Summer sounds fantastic - added it to my to-read and wishlist. :) I don't read many contemporary YA anymore (most is centered around high school, and there's nothing wrong with it, but I'm kind of bored of that?) but this I'll definitely get to.
ReplyDeleteI'm currently reading I'll Be Gone in the Dark by Michelle McNamara, and while it's definitely good, I somehow expected more from it. Which feels so bad to say, because the author passed away before she could finish the novel, and put years of her life into the research... but it is what it is.
I've heard about that book before. It's so sad that she didn't live to see her years of work and research published.
DeleteI don't read a lot of YA anymore, but Lora Richardson writes such wonderful stories. They're "quiet book" for the most part - but still so good and so emotional.
Tanya! Your heart will ache a little, but I swear, it's a really hopeful book (with lots of fun parts too). Glad to hear you are enjoying it.
ReplyDeleteI loved it, Sam! Yes, it made me cry but you are right... it was such a hopeful story.
DeleteHope and Other Punch Lines sounds wonderful - but definitely heartbreaking. I'm reading Nevernight by Jay Kristoff!

I've heard amazing things about Nevernight!!
DeleteI hope you are enjoying Hope and Other Punch Lines. Enjoy all the rain, we need it here where I live in Florida. It seems to skirt around us. Ugh. Happy reading.
ReplyDeleteI didn't realize you were in FL, too! It was dry here all earlier in the week but we're getting another dousing of rain right this minute. Bring it on, I say! Hope you get some of that much needed rain your way!
DeleteI'm glad you're getting cooler temps now, we're not! I'm actually dying! I know temps in the 90's are normal for you but they're not over here and yet that's what I'm having to live with! *sobs*
ReplyDeleteI want to read Hope and Other Punchlines but I'm not sure my heart will take it... I will read it eventually but I need to be ready, lol. I hope you enjoy!
There was actually an article in the Wall Street Journal last week about the heat wave in the UK and Europe. I was shocked at some of the temps!!
DeleteWe're supposed to get rain tomorrow with temps in the 70s; I am ECSTATIC.
