WWW Wednesday #82 | April 8, 2020

WWW Wednesdays is a meme hosted by Taking on a World of Words.
Just answer three questions and share what you're reading.

How's your week going? Mine is off to a good start. I had my virtual WW meeting last night and it was great to have that bit of normalcy. I miss going into the studio for the weekly workshop, but I love that they've made virtual meetings available. It's a great tool to help me stay on track and not use what's going on as an excuse to derail.

I'm also going to take a day of PTO on Friday. The Husband is off for Good Friday so I'm going to follow suit. We might do something wild and crazy - like actually leave the house and take a drive. Or turn right instead of left when we go for our daily walk. The possibilities are endless! 😉

WHAT ARE YOU CURRENTLY READING?

Currently reading: I'm still reading Where the Lost Wander. I'm loving the story but I'm finding it slow-going for two reasons. 1) My concentration is shot and I can only read for very short periods. And 2) The story is such that I feel like I can only read small bits at a time. As much as I'm enjoying it, the situations they are in are quite bleak. To be honest, I'm probably reading this at the absolute worst possible time. LOL
Current progress: 45%

Currently listening: I was scrolling through my Audible library last night and found Cake, one that I purchased ages ago but never listened to. It sounds pretty angtsy but it has great ratings/reviews so I'm going to give it a go.

WHAT DID YOU RECENTLY FINISH READING?

I finished my listen of Risky Play on Monday and it fell into the good-but-not-great category. Both main characters were pretty likable but everything felt very surface-level, if that makes sense. And the ending played out so perfectly and wrapped up so easily... meh. It was entertaining but very much on the light side, I guess.

WHAT DO YOU THINK YOU'LL READ NEXT?

I think after I finish up Where the Lost Wander I'm going to be positively desperate for something that doesn't hurt my heart. So something fluffy is definitely on deck and more from Abbi Glines will do the trick.

What are you currently reading?
I wanna know! :)

  1. Oh, I have risky play but I haven't read it yet. I wonder if I will feel the same.

    1. It wasn't bad by any means but it also didn't feel like there was any real depth. I did like the relationship between Slade and Mackenzie, though.

  2. Haha, taking a different route on my daily walk is about as much excitement as I'm having around here, too!

  3. Abbi Glines' books are always a great way to check out. I was just thinking about her Sea Breeze books. I loved the way the last book was an epilogue for each couple. I want Kenneally to do that for her Hundred Oaks books.

    1. I thought thought Until the End was Rock and Trisha's story. Does it also wrap things up for all the other couples? Or is there another book beyond this one? Do tell. :)

  4. I have Cake and it's on my list to read soon. I've heard it's delightful. I hope we both love it. I'm also glad you're having a better week. Mine started out harder. They announced no school for the remainder of the year besides online learning. I knew it was coming, but it hit me hard for some reason. I just feel so sorry for my daughter. Today, has been better though. The spring sunshine has helped.

    1. I can't even remember Cake Cake ended up on my GR TBR but I guess I was excited enough about it to go ahead and buy it on Audible. I'm barely into it but even so I already like the feel of the story. I have high hopes.

Sorry to hear about the school thing. :( Like you said, it was probably already a given but it's still tough.

  5. This stay at home order definitely derailed by eating habits at first. This was compounded by the fact that I didn't have a fridge in my new home (back ordered due to the virus)! Now that I do have a fridge and my local grocer has a pretty solid inventory again, I'm back to cooking more healthy meals. Even better, I've had the time to try lots of new recipes!

  6. How great that you can still do WW from home and help keep yourself on track even when it’s easy to be tempted to be lazy since you’re stuck at home. Love the sound of your wild ideas for Friday, i definitely vote for turning right instead of left. Get crazy. Abbi Glines is definitely a good shout for a lighter read after Where the Lost Wander I feel like any Abbi Glines book is a little cheesy but always enjoyable.

    1. It's been hard to be consistent with WW during this time. The first two weeks I was totally off plan. Then I got it together and killed it. Now I'm slipping again. Ugh, such a struggle. I'll be happy when I can resume a more normal routine that helps me stay on track.

  7. I've heard a couple people now say that Where the Lost Wander was a little on the slow side, but still a decent read. So, it might now just be you. Although, we are all in weird moods right now. And you had me laughing out loud with your "WILD" ideas!

    1. I think under normal circumstance I would have read Where the Lost Wander much, much quicker. But between the fact that my attention span is shot, and also that it was rather emotionally draining, it made for a slower read. It was stellar, though.

  8. I love your plans for Friday :) I am supposed to be off on Friday but I think that if a customer needs something, I will still have to deal with it since we have been so slow. I have a copy of Cake in my Audible account so I will be really interesting in what you think of it.

    1. I'm not too far into Cake (no daily commute means I don't have my normal listening time built in) but I'm really enjoying it so far.

  9. I have a book I'm reading right now that I also feel like I'm reading at the worst possible time. It's a lovely story but, like you, I read a bleak, heartbreaking scene and then I just have to put the book down for a while.

    1. I finally finished Where the Lost Wander but it was a tough one. Excellent story but man did I pick the wrong time for such an emotional and mentally draining book.

  10. HAHAHA on the walk. I walk in Central Park and while it's a big park, the options aren't unlimited. Sometimes I do my walk backwards -- whoooo! I'm trying to find a book that I can escape into. Wish me luck!

  11. I'm struggling to read anything at the moment. It's almost been a week. :( My attention span is shot too. *sigh*
I'm looking forward to the long weekend though. We're off Friday through to Tuesday so even though we can't do the things we'd usually do, we can still have fun at home. :)

I'm curious as to what you'll make of Cake. I haven't read it yet either but it's one I have on my kindle.

    1. Hope you've been enjoying the long weekend, Nicci. Even if you're stuck at home, it's nice to have the break. I haven't made it very far into Cake. No commute means I don't have my usual audio-listening time. But I've enjoyed what I've listened to so far.

  12. I'm skipping from book to book not lasting more than a few minutes lol

Turn right instead of left cracked me up. I'm starting to get a little stir crazy today.

    1. The stir crazy isn't hitting me too hard. I just found out that I'll have to actually go into the office for about an hour tomorrow so there's an exciting outing. LOL
