The Sunday Post #228 | November 1, 2020

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Caffeinated Book Reviewer.
It's a chance to share news: a post to recap the past week on your blog, showcase books,
and share what's coming up on your blog in the week ahead.
Happy November! And now that it's November we're finally getting a little taste of fall weather. A couple days ago it was almost 90 - tomorrow the high is 65. Bring it on! :) I'm sure it will be short-lived but I'm going to enjoy it while it lasts.

Two more days until the election. I don't presume to think things will calm down after that, but at least the campaign ads (and calls and texts) will stop. That's something, at least. I saw an article on CNN that stated 90 million Americans have voted early - and that's already almost two-thirds of the votes cast in the 2016 election. Amazing! People are definitely exercising their rights this time around. That much is encouraging.

It was a busy week at the office and I again worked four days there and one day at home. I'm hoping to strike more of a balance this week - three days in the office, two days at home. We'll see how it goes. I felt like I got loads accomplished this week so that was satisfying.

I'm not a TV watcher but I did actually watch two Hallmark Christmas movies this week. :) Jingle Bell Bride was super cute. It took place in Alaska but I read that it was filmed in Vancouver, British Columbia. So gorgeous and now I want to visit - in the winter, of course. I wasn't familiar with any of the actors but the guy who played the love interest (the actor was Ronnie Rowe)... what a cutie! :) Then last night I watched Deliver By Christmas and that one was so good. Loved it. I'll be catching that one again, I'm sure. Anyone else watching the Hallmark Christmas movies? Any recommendations?

This week's 80's music fix is Heart and Soul (1987) by T'Pau. Loved this one back in the day - and it's still a great song.

  1. The early voting is incredible. I guess people are energized now lol. And wow you're getting a temp drop. It was in the 40's here today and felt COLD.

The Christmas movies look fun! Now that it's November I'll be definitely in a holiday mood- I might just seek out some comfort watching holiday movies myself :)

    1. Uh, yeah, 40's is cold! LOL Well, it is to me. :)

It's been pretty encouraging to see all the reports of early voting, mail-in votes, and people standing in long lines just to vote. At least this horrible election has shaken some people out of their apathy.

  2. It was 29° yesterday. That cold front really arrived. There are over 330 million people in this country. The number who choose not to vote is ridiculous. They should do mandatory voting like Australian, than we wouldn't have all this chaos about registering, etc. I'm just saying....They are prepping us at work for market volatility. Here's hoping for no outages next week. It's amazing to hear you are back in the office and that it is working out for you. Hallmark movies used to be the one TV show I watched a week. I should try to get back to that or at least try to get to Deliver by Christmas. Looks like Hallmark is making an effort with diversifying the casting too. That was a big criticism for them, though I still think they make the best Holiday TV movies (sorry Lifetime). I wanted to click that widget for Penalty Box so bad. It's such a ME book, but I have 19 review books for January. I hope I get to it at some point. Enjoy!

    1. 29? Gah! I'm actually feeling chilly this morning because it dropped to 50 last night. LOL Yeah, the number of people who choose not to vote is mind-boggling. Such apathy. Why would not not exercise your right to vote?! I did not know that it was mandatory in Australia. I like that!

Deliver by Christmas was just so good. I already want to watch it again. And I agree about the diversity. Long overdue. Recently I overhead two co-workers talking and one said that Hallmark was coming out with a same-sex movie and she actually said, 'well, I won't be watching Hallmark anymore.' Unbelievable. Told me all I needed to know about her. Ugh.

  3. I kind of wanted to start watching Christmas movies this weekend, but my husband was more into cutesy/funny Halloween movies, so we watched Hocus Pocus instead! I'm curious to know what you think of Elvis Duran's book; I've been listening to him since I was at least a teenager!

    1. Well now that Halloween is over you can move on to all the Christmas movies! :)

  4. You know what? I should watch Christmas Hallmark movies too! At least it would be a break from the doom and gloom.
Crossing my fingers for you my US friends. But yes we've heard that the participation from US citizens is already huge so that's encouraging. And I had no idea people sent you SMS or called you for the elections! They can't do this in Belgium.
    Stay safe Tanya!

    1. Exactly, Sophie. Those Hallmark Christmas movies are so light and fluffy and just leave you with a good feeling. We could all use that right now!

  5. I agree that it's been good to see how many people are voting early this year---we all need to get out there and get our opinions heard, at least in this one way.

    1. As bad as this election has been, I guess that's the silver lining: it got more people involved.

  6. First, I love that song! Second, I'm going to go ahead and recommend NOT visiting Vancouver B.C. in the winter. I don't live there, but I do live in the Seattle area and I think our winters are similar. It's more rain than snow. It is a pretty city, though. I would probably recommend visiting in summer or fall. Third, I just want this election over with! It stresses me out. I am so tired of all the campaign stuff, too. At least you had some great reads!

    1. LOL Your advice has been noted, Deanna. :) As a Floridian I probably wouldn't know how to deal with that kind of weather anyway. Ha! If I ever make it to Vancouver, I'll shoot for the fall.

    1. Wow, we are so opposite, Sherry! LOL I can go days and days without ever turning the tv on. And if I do it's briefly. I used to watch a lot of TV but for some reason that's changed over the years.

  8. My friend and I do a virtual movie date every week and we've recorded all those movies so I can't wait to start watching.

  9. I'm very nervous about how the election and the days after will be, but like you I'm so impressed at how high the voter turnout is. Thanks for the head's up that the Hallmark holiday films have started. I forgot they started this early but this year I'm more than ready to go ahead and dive in!

    1. I think I'm more nervous about after the election than the election itself. A smooth turnover just does not seem likely.

I hope you find some Christmas movies you love!

  10. I'm so glad that tons of people are voting this year. I really really hope that good change is coming. Things won't calm down after today, but hopefully we'll get results sooner than later and can focus on the future. Sigh. It's very stressful.

I love Hallmark movies - and Lifetime too!! I'm a big fan of the ones with certain actors that I love like Melissa Joan Hart, etc. I watched one called Forever Christmas last week that was good, and On the 12th Date of Christmas.

    1. Still no result this morning and I hope it doesn't drag on too long. It's bound to get even uglier if it does. :(

I didn't know any of the actors in the movies I've watched so far (no surprise there) but I sure enjoyed them. :)

  11. Ugh, election day is here. I'm about to watch The Holidate to ease nerves. I'll add the two Hallmark movies that you watched to my list!

    1. And now election day has passed and still we wait. This is horrible. Knowing how close it is and that it could go either way... it's sickening. :(

I'm going to need to self-medicate with more Hallmark movies this week. Ha.

  12. I love Hallmark movies. But my husband hates them.. So I just have to try and find time to watch them without him. LOL! I can't wait to see some Christmas chear for sure.

I'm almost on my way to bed since it's nearing 10 p.m. here.. but my thoughts are definitely with you. This election is insane.. and I'm anxious for you guys. It's good that so many people are voting now.

Have a great week and happy reading.

  13. It was in the 70s today at my house and I must say that is just about perfect for me. Of course, it will probably get cold or hot in a day or two. It is nice that you can do a mix of working in the office and at home. I am not a TV watcher and I don't even know if we have the Hallmark Channel! I hope you have a great week, Tanya!

    1. Funnily enough, I'm not a TV watcher, either. But with the state of things being what they are, some escapism into light, fluffy, happy holiday movies sounded like just what I needed. :)

  14. We're finally cooling down here next week. The highs will be upper 60s and I'm so happy! Fall finally!

It's been a while since I've watched a Hallmark movie, but they're usually sweet, feel-good stories. Just what we all need now, right? I love Vancouver, BC! It's gorgeous in person, too, and if you're out there Victoria is just a ferry ride away and you can see Butchart Gardens and have tea at the Empress Fairmont. Although, with Covid who knows if you can even travel there now *sigh*.

The Penalty Box looks good! :)

    1. Now that's some gorgeous weather... I love when it drops into the 60's.

Hopefully I really will get to Vancouver some day. When COVID is a distant memory.

  15. Election fever has been nuts over here (and it's not our election!) so I can only imagine how much worse it's been for you guys... Amazing turn out though, in the end!

I had to scrape frost off my car this week so autumn temps are definitely here! (Winter is definitely coming.)

I don't have the Hallmark channel but I've been starting to watch festive movies on Netflix. As soon as Halloween was over, it was time. I'm done with this year and ready for Christmas now.

I hope you managed to find the work/home balance this week!

    1. Crazy that it's so prevalent over there, too. But I guess *everyone* wants to see that man out of the White House!

I doubt I've ever watched the Hallmark channel before this year, but an occasional does of cute + happy is sorely needed these days.
