The Sunday Post #247 | May 9, 2021

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Caffeinated Book Reviewer.
It's a chance to share news: a post to recap the past week on your blog, showcase books,
and share what's coming up on your blog in the week ahead.
Hello friends! I skipped last week's Sunday Post (simply because I didn't feel like writing a post) but I did try to make the rounds and visit everyone.

My company is officially moving to a hybrid approach between WFH (working from home) and RTO (returning to the office). I've started going in two days a week and will likely go to three days a week by the end of the month. I would say it's nice to have a bit of normalcy, but in reality, after over a year it's the WFH that feels normal now.

Our dining room furniture was finally delivered - two and a half months after we ordered it. The living room furniture arrived last month and the lamps we finally cancelled when we learned they were back-ordered until July. It's nice to finally have some furniture in the dining room! It's been empty since I sold our previous set back in January.

The Husband and I celebrated our wedding anniversary (22 years) last week. Well, I say celebrated... For the second year in a row we nixed our usual week-long anniversary getaway (thank you, COVID) and instead we attempted to go to one of our favorite restaurants because they offer outdoor seating. We called to make a reservation (even mentioning that we wanted outdoor seating), drove across town, went inside to check in... only to be told that they weren't offering outdoor seating that evening. Gah! So we ended up grabbing some takeout from a nearby place and called it a night. We tried. :)

Happy Mother's Day to those who celebrate. I'll be having a small get-together Sunday afternoon/evening with my mom and my younger sister (plus her husband and daughter). Just six of us (and everyone is vaccinated) but it will be a treat to all be together and celebrate my mom. I hope you enjoy your day, however you spend it.

This week's 80's music fix is Since Yesterday (1984) by Strawberry Switchblade. Enjoy some synth-pop goodness.

WHAT I COMPLETED IN THE LAST WEEK

READ:

LISTENED TO:

Jay's upcoming release, the second generation of the Marked Men, has me so excited that I decided to do a re-listen of the entire series. This is probably my fifth reread of the series and it never gets old. :)

WHAT I'M CURRENTLY READING

READING:

I am not understanding the low ratings for this one. The main complaint seems to be that it's not a redux of Red, White, & Royal Blue? *scratches my head in confusion* I'm about halfway through, have had a non-stop goofy grin on my face the entire time, and have been thoroughly charmed by Carter and Prince Edgar. It's a little campy, a little over the top, and has been a total good time.

LISTENING:

Not a thing.

How was your week? Any new books? Any news to share?
I'd love to hear about it!

  1. Happy Mother's Day - that's nice you're going to be able to see your mom- and happy anniversary!! Good luck too with the return to work stuff- there are a lot of changes happening seems like with everything! Hopefully all goes well. That's a bummer about the restaurant! I hope the takeout was good anyway. :)

    Be well this week Tanya!

    1. LOL Yes, the takeout wasn't what we had planned but was still good. Maybe we'll try for the nice restaurant again another time. :)

  2. Happy mother's day, hope you enjoy spending time with your family today. Your dining room looks lovely, the long wait for furniture was obviously worth it. Sorry you couldn't celebrate your wedding anniversary as you'd hoped, but takeout and home sounds like a good night to me.

    1. Thanks Becky! It was funny to shift gears from a week's getaway, to a dinner out, to just a takeout dinner. We had to laugh. :)

  3. Wow! Your home is lovely! The new stuff looks great. I am sorry your favorite place was not doing outdoor dining (why not?), but 22 years is an amazing accomplishment. I was curious about Playing the Palace. I am glad you shared your thoughts. I was wondering about the reviews too. I mean, I liked RW&RB, but not as much as other people, and I have no idea why they would expect this book to be like that (it's a whole different author involved) *shrugs*

    1. Aw, thanks Sam! :) If I could quit my job and spend my days redecorating I would. LOL Yeah, the Playing the Palace comparisons to RW&RB are pretty disheartening (and frustrating). I mean, there are plenty of contemporary royalty romance but we don't compare them all. But because there are two M/M royalty romances they must be pitted against one another? I don't get it.

  11. Happy anniversary! That sucks about your anniversary dinner. I hope you enjoy your Mother's Day dinner with the family! It's nice to get back to normal on some things. It would be nice if those who can work from home continue to do so. So many negatives about going to the office: traffic, emissions, time spent (wasted) in traveling back and forth. I'm glad to hear that at least you'll be able to have two days working from home.

Your dining room looks great! I did hear that with Covid furniture and home improvement items have been back ordered on account of people trying to fix up the space they spend so much time in now. My daughter's had furniture on backorder, too.

    1. I saw my brother-in-law yesterday and he launched into a diatribe about how working from home is a crock and doesn't work and on and on. I played the good hostess and just steered the conversation elsewhere when I really wanted to give him a piece of my mind. Ugh.

Interesting how the Covid impact really trickles down through so many aspects of like... even down to furniture deliveries.

  12. Happy anniversary Tanya. I'm sorry about the mixup though. We are celebrating our anniversary on the 19th.. and I'm still thinking about what we're going to do. Restaurant are only open till 6 p.m. over here, and than there's is only the option of take out. So.. I'm not sure what to do yet.

Your dining room furniture looks really nice. Love it!!

Have a great week and happy reading.

  18. I love your new dining room set! I have been in my house since July and still need to purchase dining room furniture. Right now, I have a folding table in the dining area. I will get there eventually. Happy Anniversary! You have been married about the same amount of time as I have. We will reach 22 years in December but we have never really celebrated. I hope that you have a great week!

  19. Happy Anniversary to you and your hubby! My hubby and I will also be celebrating our 22nd later this summer. :) I hope your Mother's Day gathering was a lot of fun for everyone. I'll be starting Playing the Palace in a couple of days and have been curious about the low ratings as well. I hope my experience is like yours.

    1. I finished Playing the Palace last night and LOVED it, Suzanne! The low ratings boggle my mind. I think too many people are expecting it to be just like RW&RB (for some strange reason). But it's so funny and quirky and campy... I laughed so much. :)

  21. Ohhhh I love that dining set! I hate ordering furniture though lol When we first moved into our place, everything showed up on time except for a rug? I kept asking about it and they kept pushing the delivery date. Eventually it was like 6 months and they told me it was discontinued and the only one they have available is the one on the show room floor. Like ... no I do not want the one everyone has been walking on for who knows how long??? lol

Happy anniversary!! 22 years! That's amazing! Sorry you weren't able to celebrate properly but maybe once things open up around you more, you can go out for a big fancy dinner!

I hope you have a good week :)

    1. It's crazy how long it takes to get furniture! We finally gave up on the lamps we had ordered and canceled those. It was going to be July or something. Thanks but no thanks!

Thanks, Molly... we always make a big deal on our anniversary (more so than birthdays) so after missing two years due to Covid we're definitely due for something big next year. I sense a big trip coming up! :)

  23. I LOVE your table!!!!

We're fully vaccinated but are sticking to outdoor dining right now too.

I didn't love Playing the Palace but I agree with you - why is everyone hitting it because it's not Red, White & Royal Blue??? It's it's own thing. I didn't love RW&RB either so lol Paying the Palace was too over-the-top, high speed for me but I do thing there were a lot of fun/funny moments too.

My husband and I totally forgot our anniversary until his mom called lol

    1. All the comparisons to RW&RB make me ragey. I mean, seriously, why would anyone expect a duplicate of that book? Do we expect all contemporary (straight) royal romances to be the same story regurgitated again and again? Of course not. But because there's a m/m royal romance it must be another RW&RB. Gah! Can you tell I have strong feelings about this? LOL

  24. I'm sorry your anniversary plans got changed. We did go into 2 restaurants this past week. But we still wear masks and stick to takeout whenever we can. You are right about WFH being the normal. I like being at home.

    1. Same here, Anne. I've now eaten at two different restaurants but both were outdoor seating. I'm still not ready to go sit down in a restaurant with other diners. Especially since here in FL our (idiot) governor has basically lifted *ALL* Covid restrictions so restaurants are free to seat at full capacity. No thanks!
