The Sunday Post #252 | July 4, 2021

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Caffeinated Book Reviewer.
It's a chance to share news: a post to recap the past week on your blog, showcase books,
and share what's coming up on your blog in the week ahead.
I hope all my U.S. friends are having a happy and *safe* 4th of July. And if you don't celebrate, I hope you're just having a great weekend. :)

My excitement this week has come courtesy of the Tampa Bay Lightning - who happen to be killing it in the Stanley Cup finals! They faced off against the Montreal Canadiens three times this week and won every game! One more win and they're Stanley Cup champs for the second year in a row! I have loved watching them play this season and am already looking forward to when play starts up again (which isn't until October).

In less exciting news, Tropical Storm Elsa is churning around in the Atlantic and is headed toward Florida. On the positive side, it's been downgraded from a Cat 1 hurricane. On the downside, we could still get a whole lot of wind and rain mid-week.

I've been in such a reading mood lately (even more so than usual) and I want to read all the things. Isn't that such a delicious feeling.? :) I just want to immerse myself in all the books and soak in the utter enjoyment of reading a good story. And what's even better - I'm reading exactly what I want to read, when I want to read it, with no arcs, no deadlines and no commitments. Heavenly.

Instead of the usual 80's music fix, in honor of the holiday today I'm sharing Whitney Houston's performance of the national anthem (1991).

  1. Glad to hear the storm has been downgraded. I hope the path changes or it loses even more steam. Hurricane season in FL is always stressful. Probably the top thing I don't miss about living there. I have never gotten into a reading slump, so I cannot relate, but it's music to my ears when readers are bursting with joy for reading. Happy 4th!

    1. I haven't been in a slump (thankfully) but it's like my reading has gone into high gear. I want to read it all... right now. LOL

    1. I'm rarely in a reading slump (and it's been a long time, thankfully) but it's like all of a sudden I just want to inhale everything! LOL

  3. I have Monday off work, so I might actually be able to watch that hockey game! I had to record the other 3 and watch them after I already knew who won. Stay safe, and happy 4th!

  5. Fingers crossed the storm will fizzle out! And reading what you want when you want is definitely the best! I've been accepting arcs, but none with deadlines.

    1. I have only 3-4 arcs pending and I'll be so glad to not have any for a good long while. :)

  6. I'm so happy you are enjoying your reading. I hope there isn't a damaging storm but we could use a little rain.

  8. Go Lightning!!!! If my beloved Red Wings can't do it might as well be the Lightning! :):)

I love not worrying about ARC's and all that...

And yeah, it's like a warzone around here with all the fireworks!

  9. Happy 4th, Tanya! I hope you're having a great weekend and that Elsa continues to downgrade so that she's not an issue for you. That's wonderful that you're in such a great place reading-wise. I love it when I get into a zone like that. :)

    1. Well, Elsa is still a hurricane but shifted a bit more away from us which is good. I'm still working from home today to stay off the roads during the nasty weather.

  11. Happy 4th! I haven't gotten fireworks in years due to how dry my hometown is... maybe next year we'll get some more rain lol. Have a great week :)

    1. It's been raining here for a solid week so no fear of dry conditions. In fact, I was shocked it didn't rain on the 4th! :)

  12. Yay for your team killing it! I like watching hockey when I think of it, but I usually don't and never know when they're playing, lol! Also yay for reading what you want when you want! That's such a great feeling and I love being in that zone where you just LOVE what you're reading! That random is sooo true!

We have whole crew in our neighborhood who love to shoot off fireworks even before it's dark and did so until after 11 last night! Not just sparklers and such, but the big time LOUD ones! So fun when you have to be off to work early the next day, and especially fun when wildfires are a huge threat! I'm surprised the cops didn't come.

    1. Ugh, the fireworks are fun for an evening but my goodness people get carried away with them! We were still hearing them being set off Tuesday night.

  13. Stay safe from Elsa. It's weird for me not having to stay up to speed with all these storms!

I still feel my nerves starting when I hear about the threats and have to remember I don't live there anymore. lol

    Stay safe!!

    1. Elsa and turned a little more to the west so will likely be a non-event for us. Even so, I'm working from home just to avoid driving in the rain. :)

  15. What did you think of Preppy's books?
We had a safe 4th. No fireworks. We camped on the Oregon coast and they weren't allowed in Cannon Beach. I didn't mind at all.

    1. Loved Preppy's books! They continued to deliver the craziest twists and turns up to the very end.

I wouldn't mind no fireworks, either.!
