The Sunday Post #285 | April 17, 2022

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Caffeinated Book Reviewer.
It's a chance to share news: a post to recap the past week on your blog, showcase books,
and share what's coming up on your blog in the week ahead.

This week didn't feel so busy and overwhelming (work-wise) so that was a relief. The only downside was that there were AC problems in my office. It's was in the 80's every day this week, so not a good time for the AC to go on the fritz. (Not like there's ever a good time.) Anytime I walked out of my office to go to another part of the building it was instant relief. I worked in the office Monday-Wednesday but by Thursday I was done. I left around lunchtime and finished the day working from home. I didn't bother going in on Friday and just worked from home again. Fingers crossed that it will be fixed when I go in tomorrow!

Speaking of work/the office, on Wednesday a longtime co-worker died from Covid. He was only 47 years old and left behind a wife and two young daughters. It was shocking and heartbreaking and such a reminder that Covid is still very much a threat.

In better news, my sister who has Covid seems to have turned a corner and is showing some improvement. I'm so, so relieved.

This week's feel-good news: a police department in California is performing random acts of kindness. This month they're hitting up local gas stations and helping drivers offset the high gas prices. Next month they'll be at grocery stores. How great is that? :)

I'm feeling a Prince vibe today so we're going with one of my favorites from The Purple One, Mountains (1986). Enjoy!

HOW WAS YOUR WEEK?
I'D LOVE TO HEAR ABOUT IT!

  1. The real problem with AC issues at the office is that there are usually no windows to open and it's just stifling. Hope they get that fixed for you. Glad to hear your sister is getting better, too!

    1. Sam - Right! No AC, no windows... not a good combination. Hence my decision to work from home last Thursday/Friday. :) Thankfully AC is working fine this morning. It's freezing as usual. LOL

  2. Oh, sorry your A/C was on the fritz. That's a necessary part of an office in warm weather. Luckily you can work from home though. Hope you sister gets better soon. Enjoy your books!

    1. Mia - Yes, I'm so thankful I can work from home when needed. And no AC definitely means I need to stay home! I get grouchy when I'm hot. LOL

  3. I'm so sorry about your co worker, what a shock. Working without A/C is terrible, I'm glad you were allowed to go home and work.

    1. Wendy - Thanks. No AC does not make for a good work day. I'm so glad I can work from home when I want/need to.

  4. I'm glad you weren't as stressed with work but sorry to hear the AC broke. That can be enough drama here in the UK and we don't tend to have the weather get too warm so I dread to think what it be like where you are. I don't blame you finishing your working week from home for a little relief. Glad to hear your sister is improving as well, hopefully she;ll be fully recovered by your next update.

    1. Becky - Yeah, no AC here is Florida is cause for panic. LOL Working from home kept me from being all grouchy about being hot. :)

  5. So sorry about the co-worker, in OK where I live, people act like Covid is over until something like this happens to them. It's so sad. I'm so happy to hear your sister is doing better though! Great news!!

    1. Carrie - Very similar here. People act like Covid id just a cold (ugh) or that it's long gone and not even an issue. So frustrating. But thanks, my sister is still dealing with cough and congestion but is feeling quite a bit better.

  6. That is so scary how COVID randomly kills people while others have regular cold/flu symptoms/issues. So sorry about your co-worker.

Yah no. Can't work without AC. I feel for you and glad you have the work from home option.

I know not everyone is a fan of the LAPD, and for good and valid reasons, but I personally have never had anything but good experiences with them and I am grateful for everytime they've come to my apartment complex when called. Like what for instance? Well let's see...one neighbor had an abusive boyfriend, another neighbor had a crazy girlfriend, and one time there were squatters in the vacant apartment. Plus drunk drivers were always crashing their cars out front. So yah, I personally love the LAPD. lol That's nice what they're doing at gas stations and grocery stores.

    1. Jinjer - Wow, you've had some rather... interesting experiences to deal with. I'm glad the police responded in the right way each time. I really do believe the majority of police are decent and doing a very difficult, stressful job. There will always be exceptions, though.

  7. Good decision to work from home. I am delighted to hear your sister turned the corner, but so sorry for your co-worker. Covid is no joke. My daughter and husband both had it and are suffering long term covid effects from heart to kidney. Enjoy Crowbones. Happy Easter.

    1. Kimberly - You're right, it's still a serious threat despite what some seem to think. I'm so sorry to hear that your husband and daughter continue to have issues with long Covid. :(

  8. I'm glad you left to work at home as probably not much ventilation then either. I hope it's fixed next week. Yes Covid isn't over even though most people act like it is. Still about 1000 people dying every day. We are still being careful. I really enjoyed Crowbones.

    1. Anne - Exactly. Between the heat and the lack of ventilation I was out of there. :)
I'm about 70% through Crowbones and really enjoying it. I love being back in that world.

  9. OMG dying of COVID at 47 ? Was she or he vaccinated? This is frightening Tanya. That's why I wore a lask today attending a book event and hope it was enough!

    1. Sophie - I know, it's unthinkable isn't it? I'm not sure about his vax status. I didn't know him well enough to discuss it. I think he'd had Covid back in December but continued to have lingering issues. :(

  10. Sorry about the AC. That would make working even more unpleasant. I'm so sorry to hear about your coworker. I do think we have sort of brushed COVID aside even though it is still around. I have a friend who has been vaccinated and boosted and just got COVID for the 3rd time. She even had the antibodies treatment when she got it the first time.

    1. Samantha - Oh my goodness, your friend has Covid for the third time? That's terrible. I hope she's doing okay. To be vaxxed and boosted AND had the antibody treatment and still get it... poor thing.

  11. Happy Easter! I'm so sorry about your co- worker though! How horrible. I went to church today for Easter and honestly it felt like a super spreader event waiting to happen. Tons of people, hardly any masking, and they encouraged people to greet others around us, and of course people want to shake HANDS. Are we still doing that? lol I shouldn't make light of it but yes Covid is still very much dangerous!

I remember that Prince song! I listened the heck out of that album back in 86 or whatever it was. Not as well knows an Purple Rain but there were some great songs there.

Oh my gosh that so true about the Worcestershiwhatever the heck its called

    1. Greg - Yikes, that's a little concerning that those at church were being encourage to mingle and shake hands. Um, thanks but no thanks. My husband went to a sunrise service but it was outside and he kept his distance.

Yeah, Mountains wasn't one of Prince's bigger hits but I always loved it. And I agree, that whole album was awesome!

  13. I hope your AC problems are resolved by the time you get back to the office. I can't stand working in a hot office. So glad to hear your sister is starting to feel better, but that's so awful about your coworker. Covid is definitely still out there, although everyone around where I live seems to think it's over. Awesome Prince song!

  16. That is so terrible about your co-worker! Most people think the worst is out of the way, but this is an tragic reminder. I'm so happy your sister is recovering. Yes, no air-conditioning is the worst! Hope it was fixed by the time you went in today.

I signed up for a Catherine Cowles. I really want to try her out.

    1. Rachel - It really is a huge reminder that Covid is still very much here and still a danger. I see everyone out and about, gathering in big groups, no masks, and I just don't get it.

I've only read one by Cowles so far (I was on the blog tour for Tattered Stars - the first in the Tattered & Torn series) and loved it. I hope I get on the tour for the third book, Hidden Waters. I'm signed up for it, anyway.

  17. I'm so sorry for your loss. That's horrible. I'm glad your sister is doing better, though. I have still been vigilant with masking, etc, but it's getting harder now that all the mandates are gone. I'm actually taking my teenager to get tested today because she has a stuffy nose/sore throat and woke up with laryngitis. I rapid tested her and that came back negative, but thought I better take her just in case since we spent Sunday with my family. I want to be able to tell them she's (hopefully) PCR test negative. At least last week was spring break, so not as many place to pick up something. Crossing my fingers it's a cold.

    1. Thanks Deanna. I wouldn't say that we (me and the coworker who died) were friends, but certainly friendly. And someone I'd known for 15 years or so. I hope your daughter's PCR test was negative! Kudos for being so cautious and making sure.

  20. Hopefully the AC will be back up and working soon!

In my classroom when it's a bit more warmer it gets SO HOT, it's not normal. I'm a bit mad that the government won't provide AC's for us, sometimes I just take the kids outside in the shade to sit and work there, because my classroom can get 40 Celsius, which is insane.

    1. I'm so sorry your co-worker died at such a young age... Sometimes life really gives us a reality check!

A very young blogger from the Netherlands (27) died last week of the flu...

But on a brighter note, I'm happy your sister shows improvement! You must've felt really scared about her having Covid...

    2. Esther - That sounds miserable with no AC! Having to go outside to get cooler is crazy.

That's terrible about that blogger who died from the flu. We tend to forget that the flu kills people every single year... I guess that it just seems like it is usually elderly people.

  21. I've been out of the loop this past week so I didn't see that your sister had COVID. I'm glad she's feeling better and o sorry to hear about your co-worker.

Not having AC in FL is no joke!

  22. Oh my goodness, I'm so jealous of 80 degree weather. Not the lack of ac though, I'm sorry for that! I'm so thankful you were then able to work from home! We got two feet of snow last Thursday and went snowboarding for the last time of the season with our boys on Friday. I'm ready for it to be summer now lol!
