Welcome to my Best in Books for February! Best in Books was created by my friend Hope and she was kind enough to let me join in on her feature (because she's awesome that way). Her BookTube channel is linked above and I hope you'll check her out. Now on to all the best bookishness in February...
Victoria from Your Tempting Love
Victoria was a character I liked from the start. She was a young woman with a lot of responsibilities. Since the death of her parents, she was raising and supporting her three younger siblings while building her own business. That's enough to have the most stable person rocking in the corner. Instead, Victoria managed it all with incredible strength and maturity - even when she felt she was screwing it all up. Sure, she was sometimes overwhelmed but she never complained, never whined and through it all her love and concern for her siblings was always apparent. And when entering into a new relationship, she didn't act like an overly emotional teenager. She kept her focus, made sure the kids were comfortable with the new man in her life (even discussing it with their therapist) and just generally behaved like a responsible adult. Go Victoria!

Crosbie from Undecided
It was a tough pick this month (because Landon from Goodnight, Nic is just... wow) but I'm going with Crosbie. Because he's Crosbie. And really that's all that needs to be said. If you've read Undecided then you know. And if you haven't read Undecided then you need to go read it now. Because Crosbie.

Oblivion by Jennifer L. Armentrout
Re-reading the Lux series is always a good thing. In fact, it's my answer to many of Life's difficult questions. What should I do for lunch? Re-read the Lux series. What should I read next? Re-read the Lux series. What shall I do with my life? Re-read the Lux series. You see the trend? And the only thing better than re-reading the Lux series? Reading it from Daemon's POV.♥

Undecided by Julianna Keyes

"We've got half an hour until the next showing."

"We can see Kill Glory 3," he says reluctantly, reaching over to tug me in by the collar. "But let's make out for a bit first."

"Make out?" I feign offense. "You haven't even bought me popcorn."

"Can I just give you the ten dollars?”
The Serpent King by Jeff Zentner
I don't know if "best" is the right term but there was certainly an OMG Moment in The Serpent King that had me pausing the audio and thinking (hoping) "that did not just happen." Except it did. It is the one thing that will always come to mind when I think about The Serpent King and I still haven't gotten over it.

Asa by Jay Crownover
What a character arc this guy had! From me loathing him in Book 2 to me cheering him on in Book 6. Asa came a looong way - and everyone could see that except him. He held tightly onto the past and lived with the guilt of all his misdeeds, never giving himself a break. I loved watching as he slowly learned that he could leave the old Asa behind and have a better future. He was such a good man and seeing him finally accept that did my heart good.

Tell Me Three Things

“One of the worst parts about someone dying is thinking back to all those times you didn't ask the right questions, all those times you stupidly assumed you'd have all the time in the world. And this too: how all that time feels like not much time at all.
it rode in on

Goodnight, Nic by Marley Jacobs

I can't believe how close I came to overlooking this absolute gem of a debut novel. But once I picked it up I could barely put it down. Jacobs combined a story of love and loss, romance and grief and somehow blended it seamlessly into one amazing book. While Nic's emotions feel completely realistic, the story is never maudlin. And the romance is the perfect blend of push and pull, sexy and funny. Landon will make you wish that book boyfriends were real. And the secondary characters are incredible. This is the book I'll be pushing on everyone for the foreseeable future so prepare yourselves. :)

    1. The Serpent King didn't quite impact me the way it did some others (namely Shannon LOL) but I can totally understand the accolades. Crosbie was just awesome - love that guy! :)

  2. LOVE that quote from Tell Me Three Things!

I also need to read The Serpent King; I'm curious about this moment you are talking about. It's been on my to-read list probably since before it came out. haha

    1. The Serpent King was truly a good read. I didn't *love* it but it definitely stuck with me. A List of Cages was heartbreaking. Tough read but I'm so glad I read it.

  4. Hmm the best book that I read in February?? That would be the Graphic Novel Lady Mechanika. Just because it was so different for me and kind of made me a fan of that genre. :) ~Aleen

  5. GAH I love The Serpent King! One of my absolute all time favorite books of ever! I really want to read Tell Me Three Things too, I have heard so many good things! None of my February books were like, new favorites, or even 5 stars, sadly. The closest would probably be Strange the Dreamer. It was a pretty "meh" month for me, fingers crossed for March!

    1. I swear, I only picked up The Serpent King because of you, Shannon! I had kind of decided against it but then you continued to rave about it so I finally caved. LOL Haven't written a review yet but I'm mulling it over. Even though I didn't *love* it, there is one scene that I feel like will stay with me forever. Hope March is a better reading month for you!

    1. It's won several awards and people positively rave it about. While I didn't necessarily *love* it, I would still recommend it. It's definitely thought-provoking and it held my interest throughout (I listened to the audio version which was done so well). I hope you'll enjoy it if you decide to give it a try!

  7. I was disappointed that I don't have Undecided because I really thought I did. *sigh* Someday I'll meet Crosbie though. :) I'm listening to Your Irresistible Love right now, Tanya, and I'm enjoying my introduction to the Bennett's. ;) I've not even heard of the Serpent King but you certainly piqued my curiosity. *haha* It seems like you had a pretty good reading month. I hope March is even better. :)

    1. I did have a good reading month, Brandee. I certainly read a lot, anyway! Much more than I usually do - and that was in a short month. Oh yes, you definitely need to meet Crosbie. Such a sweetheart! And I'm so glad you're enjoying the Layla Hagen book. She's a fairly new discovery for me and when I want something on the lighter side she's a perfect pick. The Serpent King was definitely thought=provoking. And sad. And hopeful. I'm glad I read it and can see why it's won awards.
