The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Caffeinated Book Reviewer.
It's a chance to share news - a post to recap the past week on your blog,
showcase books and things we have received, and share news about what is
coming up on your blog in the week ahead. You can find the info here:
- Florida is all over the national news because of the spike in coronavirus infections. Over 3,800 new cases on Friday alone. And we are expected to be the next epicenter of the virus. So Governor DeSantis, how's that reopening plan working for you? *insert eye roll*
- This was the first week at the office where everyone was supposed to return from working from home. I returned on the 1st and it had been fairly empty for those two weeks. It was strange this past week to actually see people in the hallways. I didn't venture outside of my office much (and I don't need to, really) so not much changed for me even with everyone returning to work.
- The Husband and I ventured out yesterday to do a bit of shopping. We went to the Exchange (department store) and Commissary (grocery store) on the Navy base and I'm much more comfortable shopping there since masks are mandatory to go inside any facility on base. And it's enforced. Yay, Navy! :)
- I did a massive clean-out of my closet yesterday and it was so overdue. I got rid of anything that did not fit (I've been on a weight loss program since last fall) and it felt great to weed out all the items that are now too big (I'll donate them all). And it's fabulous to have a closet that isn't filled with clothes that I haven't touched in years or can no longer wear.
- This week's 80's music fix is Election Day (1985) by Arcadia. In the mid-80's, Duran Duran members split off to do side projects. A couple members had a band called The Power Station and the other members formed Arcadia. I always preferred Arcadia to The Power Station (who had a more rock sound). The video makes no sense (like most videos in the 80's) but I hardcore loved this song.

WHAT I COMPLETED IN THE LAST WEEK:
Not a thing!
How was your week? Any new books? Any news to share?
I'd love to hear about it!
The cases are all on the rise here in Texas too. It still just blows my mind that we continue to open things back up as if nothing is happening. I hope this week will be a turning point for both of our states to actually approach this issue with common sense again.
ReplyDeleteYay for cleaning out the closet, and congrats on the weight loss. I did a similar endeavor when we moved into the new house back in March. I had two full car loads of clothes to donate!
I agree, Ethan. But I guess common sense doesn't mesh well with politics. Ha.
DeleteIt feels great to purge all kinds of unneeded stuff from the house!
I kind of wish I could read The Kingmaker again for the first time! *grins* I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.
ReplyDeleteI should do a deep-clean of my closet, too. I've been procrastinating a lot lately when it comes to things like that.
Stay safe and healthy in Florida! We're lucky here in Switzerland - the whole country (which is tiny, though) has only had around 20 new cases per day lately, and we're still vigilant.
Have a wonderful week ahead and happy reading.
Linda @ (un)Conventional Bookviews
I'm loving The Kingmaker, Linda! And I'm already excited to move on to The Rebel King. :)
DeleteThat's fantastic that the infection rate is so low there! You are all obviously handling it the right way.
Sorry to hear about the increased infection rate in your state. It's always frustrating to see decisions those in charge make going wrong mostly because it messes things up for everyone else. I'm glad you could go shopping on the Navy base, I would definitely feel more comfortable going somewhere where masks were mandatory, especially given the increased infection rate, it's amazing how much of an impact everyone wearing masks can make. Yay for a clearou. There is nothing more satisfying than getting rid of old clothes and seeing just the clothes you love waiting to be worn in the wardrobe.
ReplyDeleteSo true, Becky. And the governor for my state is getting nationwide criticism for his handling of the virus. We were one of the last states to lockdown and one of the first to reopen. :(
DeleteWith the closet cleared out and my wardrobe streamlined, I can actually see what I have and wear what fits. :)
I remember Power Station but I don't remember Arcadia!
ReplyDeleteI don't think they were as well known as The Power Station, and their songs didn't get as much radio play.
DeleteIt seems like quite a few states are seeing an uptick in cases. I definitely don't feel comfortable going anywhere where people aren't wearing masks. Happy reading!
ReplyDeleteNatflix&Books
Same here, Natalie. I don't go in public without a mask, and I tend to just stay home most of the time.
DeleteLOL!!! Love the Eric Clapton quote! That's excellent!!! The King Maker is an appealing title.
ReplyDeleteNumbers are spiking here in SA as well... Stay safe!
Here's my The Sunday Post
Have a good week!
LOL That Eric Clapton meme made me laugh out loud. :)
DeleteI'm loving The Kingmaker so far!
*clapping* Clothes being too big is a wonderful reason for doing a clean out. Good for you! I should really get more motivated to take off some weight.
ReplyDeleteThanks Sam! I still have a ways to go but I'm really happy with the success I've had so far. And cleaning out clothes because they are too big is an excellent feeling! :)
DeleteOh those numbers are scary. I hope things get better soon. Stay in and stay safe please.
ReplyDeleteThey really are. And it makes me wish we had better, more effective leadership. In the meantime, I continue to stay safe.
DeleteKnowing how bad it was here in NJ for a couple months, it's scary seeing what's going on in other states now. We're starting to open up more, so we'll see how it goes.
ReplyDeleteYour state has been so smart and safe with closing early and staying shut down down for so long. I wish Florida had done the same.
DeleteOh my gosh I get so nervous every time I hear another news report from FL! Having something like 4k new cases each day is NUTS! Glad you could shop safely at the Navy base.
ReplyDeleteI need to clean out my closet too. Its out of control.
It's just out of control, and our governor continues to downplay it. He won't even require masks. He says he "recommends it" but will leave it up to the mayors to decide. So infuriating!
DeleteWell I think the navy is wise Tanya! This is frightening about the surge in COVID cases in Florida! And I have just heard on the news that Trump thinks there are too many covid cases in the US and so asks for less testing!!!! Well yes that should do the trick for the numbers but ...so stay safe and wear masks!
ReplyDeleteNow congrats for your loss weight! That at least is a positive news!
Yeah, he says he was joking when he said that about less testing but I doubt it. He's that clueless.
DeleteI'm sooo overdue for a closet purge! It feels great to get rid of the stuff that doesn't fit anymore!
ReplyDeleteI'm also in Florida and feeling the same way about it. If only he had cared back before Spring Break. I'm glad most schools are offering e-enrollment for the upcoming year but I'm also worried what that means for the education system here in the future.
Stay safe and have a great week! Happy reading!
Right? Even now, with infections skyrocketing, DeSantis doesn't seem particularly concerned. So frustrating... and disappointing.
DeleteI badly need to clean out my closet because I’m betting that most of my clothes don’t fit. I’m not as fat as I used to be, but I’m not as skinny as I used to be either! I have no idea which clothes actually fit. Have a good week!
ReplyDeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
LOL Quarantine hasn't done any of us any favors when it comes to waist size. :)
DeleteThat is excellent that you have had some weight loss and now the closet cleanup. My brother lives in Florida and sadly tries to keep feeding me the Republican narrative that it's just because there is more testing. No it's also hospitalizations and deaths. I wish masks weren't such an issue because they seem to be a really good tool in this fight. We just stay home.
ReplyDeleteMy dad was in the Navy. He was in charge of an electrical crew building the base in Jacksonville during the Korean War. He and my Mom lived there for the first 4 years of their marriage. I didn't come along for 8 years. He'd be 107 now and I miss him.
Take care and stay well!
Anne - Books of My Heart Here is my Sunday Post
Wow, that's really something that your dad helped build the base here in Jacksonville!
DeleteYep, I hear the same from a lot of people like you do from your brother. "It's just because there's more testing." Gah! More infections are more infections no matter how you try to spin it.
I saw those Florida COVID-19 numbers this morning and thought of you. Yikes!
ReplyDeleteI did a massive clean out of my closet a couple of weeks ago too. I wish I could say it was because of weight loss, but no, just lots of old clothes I don't wear taking up too much space. Congrats on your weight loss. That's awesome!
Thanks Suzanne! It's stilla work in progress, but it feels great to weed out what no longer fits.
DeleteI'm so sorry to hear about Florida. That must be frustrating- I don't understand some of these leaders who make such terrible decisions! And it would be weird to have people coming back after having the office be empty for so long, I would imagine. I love that the Navy is doing things right though! Even if our leader doesn't take it seriously enough, it's nice to know the military does.
ReplyDelete"video made no sense". Ha right? So true. I remember this spinoff and Power Station too!
So true. The mayor and the governor seem to be on the same page - which is move forward at all cost - but on base it's a different story. Thank goodness! I do any shopping there as much as possible.
DeleteThe news coming from FL is so frustrating! What are the elected officials even doing! So terrible. I'm glad you were able to shop safely though. Masks are still required here although I only go to the grocery store. I don't think I'll be venturing out at all until we find a vaccine. Thankfully, I'm able to continue on with my studies from home. Also hooray on your weight loss journey! :) That is great news!
ReplyDeleteI'm with you, Nick. I'm back at the office now but other than that I stay at home. I'll feel a lot differently when there is a vaccine but I fear that's quite a ways off.
DeleteCongrats on the fact that you're not fitting into those old clothes! Lately my clothes haven't been fitting too well either, but I'm unfortunately going in the other direction. LOL!
ReplyDeleteNicole @ Feed Your Fiction Addiction
Thanks Nicole. I only managed to maintain (no loss at all) during the 2.5 months or working from home, but I'm back on the right track again. :)
DeleteSo happy to hear you and your hubs were able to get out shopping, always fun. Hope you are enjoying the new Kennedy Ryan book. I wasn't a fan but I know many other readers that adored it. And she is great with portraying solid representation in her stories.
ReplyDeleteI plan on finishing The Kingmaker today and I'm tempted to dive right into The Rebel King.
DeleteI would be so frustrated having to go back to work in the midst of the COVID chaos if I were you.I'm sorry you have to deal with that! I made a trip to the vet with my dog and I was amazed at how lax people had gotten here. It made me so mad.
ReplyDeleteI'm actually fine being back at the office. I certainly feel better about being here than I would in a grocery store or restaurant. People keep their distance and seem to be following safety guidelines.
DeleteI am CACKLING at the Wonderful Tonight thing bwahahha. Also that is AWESOME about the closet cleanout!
ReplyDeleteI am so sorry about the state of Florida as a whole though. I am kind of waiting for the same thing to happen here too, because it seems like now that most stuff has reopened people think it's just not a thing to worry about anymore and it's a free-for-all. Masks are mandatory, but many businesses refuse to cooperate. Good times. Because it's worth a bunch of people dying so you don't have to be inconvenienced by a mask 🙄 I am just so tired of the foolishness, and I am sure you are too! Hope you have a great week though!!
Ha! That Eric Clapton meme just keeps cracking me up. :)
DeleteFree for all sounds accurate. It's like everyone decided they were tired of dealing with the safety precautions and just quit. Foolishness, for sure!
I hope you're enjoying The King Maker! I'm really looking forward to it. And stay safe!!
ReplyDeleteI'm definitely enjoying it, Alison! I actually hope to finish it today.
DeleteWe've just had the next wave of business that can reopen announced as well as a halving of the social distancing distance (now 1M) which was necessary to open pubs and restaurants. All in time for the school holidays! (They begin in 3 weeks). Not that I'm cynical. Nope... The big question I have is how to personally have a semi-nice summer keeping the kid amused but without becoming a statistic.
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry the numbers in your state are shooting up. I hope you and your family are able to continue staying safe. Shopping on the base must be heaven compared to the rat run of the outside world!
And well done on the wardrobe tidy!
I hope you manage to find the balance on safety and entertainment over the summer, Nicci.
DeleteI'm so sorry to read the virus has spiked where you're at. Here is has been going well so far.. but I'm still nervous about it.
ReplyDeleteGood for you that you did the clean-out of your closet. Afterwards you always feel great right?!
So true! That was quite a feeling of accomplishment. :)
DeleteStay safe! Fortunately, I live in a small country town so we haven't had many cases. I think it has made people a little more lax with social distancing and wearing masks. Now that everybody is vacationing, I'm worried our little town will be hit hard soon.
ReplyDeleteHope you had a great week!
I hope that continues where you are, Whitney!
