The Sunday Post #215

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Caffeinated Book Reviewer.
It's a chance to share news - a post to recap the past week on your blog,
showcase books and things we have received, and share news about what is
coming up on your blog in the week ahead. You can find the info here:

  • For those in the U.S, I hope you had a good and safe 4th of July. We stayed at home, threw a couple burgers on the grill for dinner, and then had to listen to neighborhood fireworks for four straight hours. It was insane. And all I could think was, "how much money did you all spend that is quite literally going up in smoke?" I've just never understood the appeal of fireworks.
  • I was alerted on Friday that an employee at my company has tested positive for COVID. The first (that we are aware of, anyway). Those that he's had contact with have now been asked to get tested and quarantine. I suppose it was only a matter of time, but it's still disturbing when it hits close to home, so to speak. (And for the record, no, I had no contact with the employee.)
  • After some arm-twisting from The Husband, I finally upgraded my iPhone this week. I've had my 6S Plus for years (at least 4 years) and it was time. I was waffling on the decision but when I saw the iPhone 11 came in purple I was sold. LOL I'm all about the aesthetic. :)
  • This week's 80's music fix is Rush Hour by Jane Wiedlin. This song seemed to be everywhere the summer of 1988.

WHAT I'M CURRENTLY READING:

Not a thing this week.

How was your week? Any new books? Any news to share?
I'd love to hear about it!

  1. I would totally have bought that phone just because it was purple too!

Sorry to hear that a colleague has tested positive. We have someone in our organisation too but they are based in a different location. Still unnerving for everyone!

    Have a good week.

    1. It's more lavender than purple which, IMO, is even better! :)

  2. Haha, I love that meme! I feel the same about fireworks, though we did buy a few this year for my Little who's never really seen them before, but we stuck to the really cheap stuff and lit them off early.
Super scary how close to home the positives are becoming. The majority of my family has been in that situation in the past couple of weeks and we're all still waiting and hoping that no one actually caught it. :(
I hope you have a safe week! Happy reading!

    1. I hope your little one enjoyed the fireworks! :)

It really is scary how contagious it is and how easy it seems to spread. Which makes wearing masks so important.

  3. I don't mind fireworks, but I do mind when people in my neighborhood are still shooting them off at 11 at night!

Yikes, that is scary about the employee at your company! We were notified one day that someone had a fever, so no one was allowed to come to the office until it was deep-cleaned. Thankfully, it turned out they didn't have it.

    1. Thank goodness it turned out okay! And good for your company for acting so responsibly.

  4. Are you still going into the office? That's a bit scary that someone in your company is infected. Hope you enjoy your new phone. I am all about the covers, so it never phased me what color my phone was, but purple is cool. I liked this song. I mean, it could almost pass for a GoGos song.

    1. I'm a sucker for phone covers and used to switch mine out all the time but now with the purple phone... I ordered a clear cover. I must be able to enjoy its purpleness at all times. LOL

Yeah, Jane Wiedlin didn't stray too far from the Go-Go's sound with that one. :)

  5. As you said, it was bound to happen at some point but it's still scary. :( Glad you haven't had contact with the person though. That's a relief.

I don't mind fireworks when they're part of a display but I hate it when people set them off in their gardens etc so it goes on and on all evening. Sale and use of them should be better controlled. :(

Did you have a three-day weekend?

    1. Yep, I was off last Friday so I was able to enjoy a long weekend. Didn't go anywhere or do anything but that was fine by me. :)

  6. I too wonder where people get the money to spend on SO MANY fireworks. Like, I don't have that kind of money to-literally-burn! Yay for a new phone. I am dragging my feet. I have a 7 and I just don't want to upgrade. But, now that they have the new version that keeps a home button, I would consider it!

    1. Oh yeah, it's been super weird adjusting to no home button!

  7. Yeah, we just stay home. You maybe didn't have contact with that employee but maybe someone they had contact with. I think sadly it's going to get much worse before it gets better. It could be so different. UGH. I still have my beloved iPhone SE because it's been touched by Charlie Hunnam and still works just fine. I got it in 2016. It's hard to believe it's that old; it seems new. I like how small it is. Plus you can plug in earbuds to this model. I have wireless ones, of course, but sometimes the plugin ones are better and don't have to be charged. Enjoy your week!

  8. Yeah, fireworks are illegal in our county except by a professional show, and yet there were a ton going off last night. Not just the little ones but some pretty big, expensive looking ones. Lawn chairs out in the street for the neighbors watching the show. Mind you this is right in front of the police officer's house a few doors down from us. Kind of strange if you ask me, especially when the threat of fire is really high now.

    Glad you weren't exposed, Tanya!

    1. Wow, all of that right in front of the house where a police officer lives? That's pretty bold.

  9. That is close to home. Our nephew a police detective in Fl has it. We worry about his baby and wife as well.

Yikes, yes fireworks are expensive. We only set them off on Friday for 20 mins and Saturday night for about 45, but it was slow going with two excited kiddos. We only did sparkles, tanks and a few sparkly type boxes and it cost up about $75.00 so I cannot imagine.

  10. So many fireworks in my neighborhood last night and they went until at least midnight. Like ok - have fun but midnight?? lol

  11. Having someone test positive at your workplace certainly makes it seem more real! We had the same thing happen a couple weeks ago. I'm now on day 10 of a 14 day quarantine, since I was in close contact with the person. We were wearing masks at all time and trying our best to practice social distancing, but I'm still taking all the precautions. I should find out the results of my test early this week.

I completely agree with you about the fireworks. Thankfully the city we just moved too doesn't allow them. Of course, there were still a few rogue shots, but noting crazy like I've experienced in years past. We were happy to stay home and enjoy some chili dogs!

    1. It does suddenly bring it too close for comfort. I so hope your results are negative, Ethan!

A quiet night with some chili dogs sounds pretty awesome to me! :)

  12. Congrats on the new phone! My neighbors have been shooting off fireworks every night for weeks. It’ll probably continue all summer. They REALLY like their fireworks and don’t care about anybody else’s sleep. Have a great week! Stay safe.

  13. I love purple too! I’d love a new phone too!

It’s scary when COVID gets closer to home, I’m wishing things would go back to normal but I think it’s a long way off yet.

    Have a good week!

  14. Yeah I never understood the whole spending a fortune on fireworks, they are fun to look at but I get bored with them fast, so I am good with just a few minutes and let me get back to my book lol But I get it though, its one of the few things that ppl were even allowed to do.

I love iphone's, I am hoping to get a new one soon too!! And so many good books you managed to read. Hope you have a great week and great month of July!

  15. Grilling for the 4th sounds so good! We ended up getting pizza. And I hear you on fireworks! I mean I like a good fireworks show but all these home bought ones where people shoot them up all night- I don't get that either. It was like a war zone in my neighborhood last night and there was so much smoke around... kinda ridiculous.

And sorry to hear about the employee testing for the virus. Glad you didn't have contact with them. It IS scary when it hits close to home like that. Take care and be well.

How come I don't know rush Hour? Yikes my 80's mojo has taken a serious hit. :)

  16. I'm glad to hear you had a nice holiday. We kept our celebration small too. We grilled and actually stole your idea of a socially distanced driveway picnic so that I could see my mom and sister who I haven't seen since pre-pandemic. I'm glad to hear you hadn't had any contact with the person who tested positive. That definitely makes me feel more real when it enters your workplace. Congrats on your new phone! We are phone twins now because the purple iPhone 11 was what finally convinced me it was time to ditch my iPhone 6, lol.

  17. I like fireworks, but when people set them off for days and days and hours and hours, then it gets annoying. I'd rather have the professionals do it and then we're done. LOL I ordered an upgraded phone - finally - but it was on back order and I'm still waiting. So hopefully that comes soon because my current phone no longer lets me update apps or even download apps and it keeps telling me I have no storage, when I do. LOL It's very annoying. I love that your new one comes in purple though!! My favorite color!

I'm so glad that you weren't around the employee with COVID. It does get scarier the closer it gets to you!

  18. That's too bad about that guy at your work. I hope he ends up okay. I'm glad you weren't around him.
We just stayed at home for the 4th, too. We did light off a few fireworks, but not a lot. There were so many lit off here too. They had a ton of them going off the days before.

  19. Your July 4 sounds lovely! We did picnics both Friday and Saturday, surprisingly both parks we went too were pretty empty.
