I'm headed to an appointment with The Husband this morning and will probably work from home in the afternoon. So it kinda-sorta feels like a day off.
Weird to think it's July and the year is half over. And what a year it's been. Anyone have 4th of July plans? My city is actually moving forward with fireworks celebrations, because why not have large gatherings as our infection rate skyrockets. Makes total sense. *bangs my head against the wall* I'll be staying home and The Husband might throw a couple burgers on the grill. That's the extent of the celebration this year. Which, now that I think about it, is just like every other year because I never go out in the crowds to watch fireworks. So I was isolating before isolating was cool. LOL
WHAT ARE YOU CURRENTLY READING?
Currently reading: I started The Mall yesterday and so far, so good. It takes place in 1991 and all the pop culture references are making me laugh (and making me nostalgic).
Current progress: 12%
Currently listening: I also started The Rebel King yesterday. It picked up almost immediately after the first book ended, which is to say things are a mess and more then one character is in dire straits. I stopped listening last night at a scene so intense that I was practically holding my breath and starting to tear up. I can't wait to start listening again this morning!

WHAT DID YOU RECENTLY FINISH READING?
Losing the Field (The Field Party #4) - Abbi Glines
Perfect Love Story (Love Story #1) - Natasha Madison
Read: Losing the Field. OMG, I don't even know what to say. I lost count of how many times I considered DNF'ing this train wreck. My dislike of both main characters only grew as the story progressed. I don't know whether to not waste my time and just skip reviewing it, or word vomit a review with all my ragey feelings. Gah!
Listened to: Perfect Love Story was my first by Natasha Madison and it was a good enough story. Both main characters were likable, and the premise was good, but the execution was a little lacking for me. The writing was unnecessarily detailed at times and some of the scenes felt repetitive. So it was one of those that was a nice enough story and a good way to pass the time, but nothing particularly memorable.

WHAT DO YOU THINK YOU'LL READ NEXT?
Maybe one of these... ? Or maybe not.
What are you currently reading?
I wanna know! :)
I wanna know! :)
My sister is having a small get-together for the 4th, only about 9 of us total, all family. We'll have plenty of room to spread out in her backyard!
ReplyDeleteSounds like fun!
DeleteThe Rebel King is definitely a super intense book. Lots of tears were shed! I have The Mall on my list!
ReplyDeleteLosing the Field sounds like a mess!!
Your 4th of July plans sound very sensible.
I had a certain theory when starting The Rebel King and this morning when I was flipping thru the physical copy I accidentally spoiled myself. I saw that my guess was right, but I didn't mean to spoil myself! :(
DeleteI remember not be crazy about Tullulah (I have no idea how to spell her name)and her storyline, but the book was still ok for me.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad it still worked for you overall.
DeleteAll of the fireworks shows here got cancelled -- or at least the gatherings. They may still be shooting off fireworks. We're staying home and barbecuing by ourselves.
ReplyDeleteI liked that second Kingmaker book more than the first one, so you're in for a good read there! I think that Abbi Glines' book was the weakest in the series. I don't blame you for wanting to DNF it. It's funny what you said about Madison's book. The reason I didn't like it as much as some of her others was the writing. I felt like maybe it was a book she wrote a long time ago but just published. I love her Something So series. It's better. I hope you enjoy Wild at Heart!
I can't believe the city isn't cancelling the fireworks. Yesterday the mayor declared a health state of emergency... but hey, the beaches are still open and fireworks are a go. How does that make sense??
DeleteThat's interesting about the Madison book. Maybe at some point I'll give that other series a try.
I really really am curious about your thoughts on Credence!!!!! And I want to read that King duet from Kennedy !
ReplyDeleteI'm loving the All the King's Men duet!
DeleteI have a few books going on audio but it's all slow going right now.
ReplyDeleteI live in a really small town and we canceled our fireworks celebration but some rebel group decided to do it anyway and expect Lee Greenwood to sing and at least 10,000 people. So...yeah...
Karen @ For What It's Worth
How can anyone think a gathering of 10,000 people is a good idea now? It's insane. *sigh*
DeleteI found out that our neighborhood doesn't allow fireworks, so I'm thankful there will be some peace and quiet this weekend. I plan to fire up the grill and cook for the two of us. No gatherings this year, especially as our cases skyrocket here too!
ReplyDeleteI love the sound of the 90's references in The Mall, and that cover is gorgeous!
Nice on the no fireworks! A long weekend without all the noise sounds wonderful. :) A small cookout for two is perfect.
DeleteI started reading The Mall and then realized I needed to read other books first. It was funny but I wasn't sure if it was going anywhere. I guess we will see! Look forward to comparing notes!
ReplyDeleteThe Mall is enjoyable enough so far but I'm not being wowed by it yet. Hopefully it picks up.
DeleteWe are actually doing this big fireworks display with the surrounding cities but its done in a way that ppl will watch from home. So I am pretty excited for it especially since the 4th falls on a weekend so I can sleep in the next day :)It sucks we can't do anything for it though, we do so many fun things here for the 4th but BBQ with the family will still be fun and will probably watch some good patriotic movies. I see Penelope Douglas on your list to read soon----LOVE her. Still need to read that book though. Hope you enjoy that one.
ReplyDeleteHope you have a wonderful 4th of July and fun celebrating....even if its at home.Hope you are well safe and happy! :)
I've only read one by Penelope Douglas so far but I'm excited to read more!
DeleteHappy a happy 4th of July. :)
It's crazy how they'll still go ahead with the 4th July celebrations, don't they realise there are more important things to focus on? I smiled when you said you were isolating before it was cool. That's the funny thing, I'm complaining I can't do things at the moment and when I think about it I never did these things so what's my issue?
ReplyDeleteYou would think so, Becky, but there seems to be a large population that likes to pretend the virus isn't real, or has disappeared, or that it's their "right" to put others at risk. So frustrating.
Deletehere in the panhandle of florida, the fireworks have been canceled, at least most of them. my fourth will be spent like the 3rd, the 2nd....at home with mr wonderful. i rarely step off my property and even avoid all my neighbors.
ReplyDeletesherry @ fundinmental
I try to do the same, Sherry. And that's great the fireworks have been cancelled there. I sure wish they were here.
DeleteI never went out for 4th of July either, Tanya, so nothing is changing this year. Dine-in, 4th of July shows, and beaches have all been canceled/closed here in California as of yesterday. The Covid numbers have been rising so it's an appropriate response. Florida's governor needs to get a clue.
ReplyDeleteSorry to hear about the Abbi Glines. I bought the e-book and audio of Wild at Heart, I just haven't had the time to get to it yet! Looking forward to your thoughts. :)
I wish our governor would take a page from your governor! But I don't see that happening.
DeleteHopefully we'll both enjoy Wild at Heart!
I have Wild Hearts and need to read it. The Ryan cover is gorgeous.
ReplyDeleteFingers crossed we both love it! :)
DeleteWe're playing it safe and staying home this weekend too. The high point will probably be watching Hamilton on Disney Plus today, lol. The Mall sounds like fun, especially all of the pop culture references. That's such a bummer about Losing the Field. I was drawn to the cover because it gave me such a Friday Night Lights vibe but I think I'll pass on that one.
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed all the poo culture references in The Mall but otherwise... meh. I was pretty bored and had it not been a review book I probably would have DNF'd it.
DeleteFor some reason it doesn't at all surprise me that Ryan's book is intense. LOL! I have never been one for going to the fireworks shows with all the crowds either.
ReplyDeleteHa! Yeah, Kennedy Ryan just doesn't do light and fluffy. LOL
DeleteI vote word vomit review with ragey feelings! I love ragey reviews! They always make me laugh. :)
ReplyDeleteLOL Those are always fun to read, aren't they? :)
