Yesterday saw some pretty intense storms come through and there are more expected today. Bring it on! I love a good storm... do you?

WHAT ARE YOU CURRENTLY READING?

King - T.M. Frazier
The Player - Claire Contreras

I'm not particularly a fan of shirtless guy covers, but somehow I managed to be reading two at the same time. :)

Currently reading: I read my first by Frazier earlier this year so I already knew she wrote some messed up stuff. And the stuff happening in King is seriously messed up. But I was in the mood for something dark and this is definitely delivering.
Current progress: 106/293

Currently listening: I downloaded The Player from Hoopla just to have something to listen to. I've read something by Contreras before and enjoyed it but this one is just kind of... meh. So far the whole premise seems to be the big soccer star wants to have sex with the female lead while he's in town. That's it. He's attracted to her and wants a hook-up. So yeah, kind of hard to feel anything other than mild interest.
Current progress: 28%

WHAT DID YOU RECENTLY FINISH READING?
Read/Listened to: I did a combination of physical book and audio book with The Rebel King and it made for a great reading experience. There was plenty of drama but also plenty of emotion and together it worked for me.

Read: I read an ARC of Inked last week and it was a fun read. The insta-connection was in full effect, along with an unexpected pregnancy trope, but I just went with it. My review will post next Monday as part of the release day blog tour.

Read: I was excited for The Mall but it fell flat for me. The main character wasn't at all likable and I found myself concentrating on what an abominable brat she was. The early 90's pop culture references were fun, though, so there was that.

WHAT DO YOU THINK YOU'LL READ NEXT?

None of these happened last week sooo... better luck this week?

What are you currently reading?
I wanna know! :)

  1. I love that you ended up with 2 shirtless cover dudes even though you don't like them - haha! I hope they are both good!
I'm glad you liked The Rebel King! I'm so excited to hear your thoughts on Love Lettering. Did you see the cover for Kate's new book?
I'm currently reading Crazy Stupid Bromance.

    1. I really enjoyed Kaleidoscope Hearts which is why I decided to give The Player a try. It's okay but I'm not loving it. I'm just not connecting with the relationship.

  3. I've only read one Contreras book, too, and like you I enjoyed it. So, I'm bummed to hear this one didn't work for you. Also hate that The Mall wasn't so great. That was on my radar. And I have to agree that I'm not a fan of the shirt off covers. A lot of them are just cringy.

  4. The book may be meh but the cover for The Player is... Yum.

I have King on my kindle but haven't read it. I started to read it a while ago but didn't really get passed the first couple of chapters. I've heard so many things about how messed up and wrong it is but it seems to be very popular. I can read some pretty messed up stuff when I'm in the mood so I'm sure I'll read it at some point. I'm curious as to what your verdict is once finished!

    1. LOL I agree, Nicci! The cover is quite yummy. :)

King was definitely dark and I can see where some readers wouldn't like it, but I was/am in the mood for dark and so I was super into it. So much so that I seem to be binge-treading the series.

  9. Aw, bummer about The Mall. I do like books set in the 90's.
and yes, I do love a good storm if I can just hunker down at home and relax.

  10. That's a shame The Mall fell flat. I was interested because of the pop culture references but that's not enough of a reason to add that one to my TBR, lol.

    1. Yeah, it just fell flat for me. The GR reviews are mostly positive though so it could very well just be me.

  11. I love a good snow storm but in the summer if we get a storm then it's most likely a dry thunderstorms which causes fires around us. So I am not a storm lover in the summer lol. And ohhhh if you read Credence, I can't wait to see what you think. I was nervous over how I would react to that story, so I haven't picked it up yet.

    1. Yikes, if fire was an issue I wouldn't be a fan of the thunderstorms, either. Can't say I've ever experienced a snow storm but I'd like to! :)
