The Sunday Post #220

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Caffeinated Book Reviewer.
It's a chance to share news: a post to recap the past week on your blog, showcase books,
and share what's coming up on your blog in the week ahead.
I've been in total hockey mode all week and it's been awesome. The playoff qualifying rounds have been exciting and both my teams (Tampa Lightning and St. Louis Blues) are doing well. The Blues play in the last qualifying game this afternoon so no calls after 3 pm, okay? ;)

Hurricane Isaias missed us completely and the northeast ended up getting the brunt of it. If you were in its path, I hope you fared okay! We had some severe thunderstorms roll through this week and those ended up impacting us more than the hurricane. Go figure.

I had a meeting (FaceTime) with my boss this week and it looks like I might not be back back in the office until October. The company is waiting until after the start of school to see what impact that is going to have on the number of positive cases. If that's the deciding factor, I'm betting it will be well past October before I see the office again. I do not foresee the return to school being successful.

I had my first haircut since February yesterday. And it was ridiculous how over-the-top happy it made me. LOL I haven't been comfortable going to the salon but I was also ready to start hacking my hair off myself. I talked to my stylist about the safety measures they had in place and felt good about it. It was nice to have even that small taste of normalcy.

I'm taking part in the August of Books Giveaway so if you haven't entered yet you can do that HERE. You could win a book of your choice and who wouldn't want that? :)

Today's 80's music fix is You Spin Me Round  (1984) by Dead or Alive. For no other reason that just because it was a fun song.

  1. Yay for hockey (I have no idea how that sport works so the only knowledge I have of hockey is from sports romance). And everyone loves a haircut after being denied one for so long. I think as long as salons have good safety measures (here they are all appointment only, limit numbers in, facemasks for everyone and lots of cleaning) then it should be ok. Also, you only go to the salon a few times a year.

I think everyone's stuck at home for the long term. My manager said he can't see us going back anytime soon which makes me sad. I really miss my commute, I got so much reading done then!

    1. I first came to know hockey through sports romances. :) And loved them so much I decided to go see a real game live (luckily we have a local team). And I've been hooked ever since. I used to go to the salon every 6-8 weeks so going almost 6 months was driving me crazy!

  2. We had rain and a LOT of wind from the storm. Mostly power outages. My lines are underground, so we only lost cable, but my company campus went out for several hours, and there were still people in NJ without power last time I checked. Good news it spared FL. You have a enough to deal with right now. Yeah for haircuts. I had a backyard cut back in May, but I am hitting the salon next week for the full shampoo, cut, and dry.

    1. Glad the impact wasn't too terrible for you. No cable sucks (especially if you have internet through your cable company) but at least you didn't lose power. I hope your hair appointment went well. It's funny how happy mine made me. :)

  3. I can understand the over the top happiness for a haircut because, guess what? I gave myself a haircut just today. Just a little trim and being curly haired means even if I have messed it up it was not going to be too awkward.

I hope you are staying in and safe!

    1. I think a lot of people are making do with hair cuts at home! Crazy what we'll now do that used to we wouldn't have considered.

  4. So glad you avoided that hurricane! We had some stormy weather and lots of people lost power; some still don't have it! Ours has been flickering, but nothing prolonged.

Wow, October! Although my BIL already knows he's not going back until at least January, so I guess that's not too bad!

    1. I'm hearing that a lot... people being told they'll being working from home until the first of year. I applaud those companies for being so cautious.

  5. I am so excited to see so many people beginning the Virgin River series. I cried when it ended. Our house is in Hockey mode too..Go Flyers! LOL

Yay for a haircut. I broke down and got one too. We have strict measures in place. However, I didn't push it, and only got a haircut, no color. So I am almost complete gray now.

    1. Your Flyers are off to a good start! I think I saw that they won their first game this week.

I finally broke down and colored my roots at home. I couldn't take it anymore. lol Went I went to the salon last week I didn't want to be there long so I just got the cut.

  6. My students come back on Wednesday and I think we will make it about 6 weeks before we have to shut down again. I teach 7th grade and that age isn't good about being clean in general-I have no doubt that trend will continue!
I went in to get my hair cut at the end of June. It had been a WHILE. My hair is super curly so I go long periods of time without a cut. I was not planning on a giant quarantine!

  7. I'm glad you're enjoying Hockey. I got my hair cut about a week ago for the first time in FOREVER, and it really was amazing! I'm glad the hurricane missed you, and that you're okay from the big thunderstorms too!

  8. I am planning on getting my hair cut soon---I haven't had it done since early February before everything closed. Now that our state is opening and things are available (although I personally think grooming is essential --I feel bad for the men though through this whole thing more though) but my hair I like to get trimmed every few months so my hair is driving me nuts, I am OCD so split ends drive me nuts lol But getting your hair cut is the BEST feeling ever!! But its not like we planned on this quarantine or how long it would last. Such a life curve ball none of us could have prepared for.

Hope you enjoyed American Queen though. I had a good time with that trilogy.

    1. So true! It's funny how just a hair cut can lift your spirits and make you feel so much better. :)

I'm looking forward to continuing the New Camelot trilogy.

  11. I don’t think I’d bat an eyelid if Godzilla appeared outside! We are due thunderstorms for the next three days, I’m looking forward to it clearing the air hopefully.

I’ve not been to the hairdresser yet but both my mum and mum in law have been and they were both so excited!

    Have a lovely week.

    1. I hope you got those thunderstorms. We had some Sunday and Monday and I was loving it.

It was so great to finally get to the salon (safely) and get a hair cut. It had been almost six months. Ack!

  12. I loved Spin Me Round!

I've been to get my hair done twice since the reopening. I'm always nervous but they're taking pretty good precautions. I went Monday and It was just my hairdresser and me. If the state moves forward (although it doesn't look likely) and they allow more people inside at once then I'll probably think about it more.

    1. Same here, Karen. Had the salon been crowded I would not have gone. As it was, there were only two stylists and two customers, and they were working on opposite sides of the salon. There were so many safety precautions in place that I really did feel comfortable.

  13. LMAO at your totally random! Sounds about right. Your 80s fix is great too. I always loved that song.

We actually unexpectedly ended up in the Hurricane's path. Several tornadoes touched down south and east of us but thankfully we just got a ton of rain out of it.

    1. Oh my, thank goodness you didn't have the tornadoes directly in your area. Rain you can handle but tornadoes are another story.

  14. I'm glad your company is keeping you safe! I agree with you on the school opening. I can't even believe they're trying. Enjoy your new reads!

  15. I don't think back to school is going to go well either because too many people are stupid. I'm glad you can wfh. I'm happy you enjoyed your haircut and felt safe. We got some rain but the hurricane didn't affect us too much. It's just hot or I'm just tired of this part of summer. Are you reading Virgin River with Maureen's book club? I may try to jump in at the end of the month. We will see.

    1. LOL Yep, you about summed it up, Anne. It's not going to go well because too many people are stupid. Well said. :) Like you, I'm pretty over summer at this point. Unfortunately, here in FL I have a long way to go before there's any relief from the heat.

Yes! I am reading Virgin River with Maureen's book club! It's not my usual kind of read. I don't typically go for "sweet" romances but I thought it would be fun to give it a try and also be able to chat about it along the way with others on Maureen's book club Facebook group.

  16. I'm concerned about the return to school as well. Early signs don't seem to bode well. Glad to hear your company is being forward thinking about this though.

It is nice to have hockey back. Go Lightning and Blues! I'm a Red Wings fan but alas the mighty have fallen in recent years lol. Glad the hurricane missed you guys too.

You Spin Me Around is a total jam! :) Love that.

  17. I'm happy to hear the hurricane missed you! Yeah, I don't foresee schools fully opening to go well either. They need to do hybrid and rotate so they don't pack the kids in at the same time. What a crazy world we live in. Nice that you got a haircut! I haven't had one in a long time either and I desperately need one! I think I'd feel okay if we both wore a mask. I'm not sure salons are open by us right now, though.

Hope you love Virgin River as much as I did!

    1. I think school is expected to start here next week - right after the news of a slew of positive cases after school reopened in GA last week or so. It seems inevitable.

I felt very comfortable with the measure my salon had in place. I had to sanitize my hands as did my stylist, she took my temperature and hers, I had to place my purse in a shopping bag, he station was sanitized, and there was no other stylist or customer within 10-12 feet or more. Plus, all the seating had been removed from the waiting area.

  18. Hi Tanya! I'm glad to hear that Isaias missed you. I have been wishing for rain over here in AZ. It's been hot, dry, and miserable lately.

Our office is staying closed as well probably for a while. I honestly don't think we'll be re-opening until end of year or the new year. Our COVID numbers in AZ have been horrible.

Now that song is stuck in my head. I was 4 when that came out. Is Virgin River any good? I love the Netflix show and have been meaning to pick up the books.

    1. Hi Andie! Yep, I see AZ on the news often in relation to the virus. Same as here in FL. Our states can't seem to get it together.

I'm enjoying Virgin River. It's not my usual kind of read (I don't usually go for "sweet" romances) but it was chosen as a book club pick so I decided why not give it a try. I haven't seen the Netflix show but if you enjoyed it I bet you would like the book!

I'm not surprised your office is staying closed for quite a while longer having seen the news coming out of Florida... I'm glad your company is protecting its people.

It's great you managed to get your haircut! I've been struggling to get an appointment and have a feeling that I'll be cutting it with kitchen scissors before too long! 😂

  22. It's amazing what a haircut can do for you. I didn't feel comfortable with a salon, so my husband cut like 5" off for me and I felt like a new person. I'm glad you could get that done! I'm also glad that hurricane missed you!

  24. I agree, I don't think schools will be successful (as we're already starting to see). I'm definitely not going back until January at least, they announced that last week or the week before. It's good to know, even if I wish the situation were better.

    Have a great week!
