This Week's Top Ten Tuesday Topic:
Forced Proximity Romances
This week's prompt is actually a genre freebie, but I decided to go with a specific trope instead. For those who don't read romance, Forced Proximity is when the main characters are forced to spend time together - usually not of their choosing - which gives then the time and space to develop a relationship and fall in love. Forced proximity can actually overlap with several other tropes, like: office romance, marriage of convenience, nanny romance, only one bed, etc.
Here are some of my forced proximity favorites...
Have you read any of these books?
I love that cover of Keep this Promise.
ReplyDeleteThanks - I love the special edition cover, too. :)
DeleteI love that cover of Keep This Promise. So beautiful.
ReplyDeleteMe too, Bonnie! It's gorgeous!
DeleteYes, forced proximity is a powerful impetus for romance.
ReplyDeleteDeb - I enjoy the trope and seeing how it plays out.
DeleteI've only read Reason To Believe.

Thanks Lydia. I enjoying watching how the trope plays out. :)

Thanks for stopping by, Regine!
DeleteI don't read a ton of romance, as you know, but I definitely think The Charm Offensive would fall into this category. It probably works as both a forced proximity and enemies to lovers.
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness, it's so wild that you mention The Charm Offensive because it was on my initial list for today! I had too many and had to weed a few out, though. I seriously loved those characters and still think about them.
DeleteI love a good forced proximity romance! You have some fun ones on here. I loved Zapata's, Cowles's, Perry's, and Yarros's.
ReplyDeleteDeanna - Forced proximity is just ripe with so many possibilities. It may be used a lot, but I'm still a sucker for it. :)
DeleteI loved On An Island. Forced proximity is always a fun trope.
ReplyDeleteKimberly - On the Island was one of those books I could not stop thinking about long after I read it.
DeleteOn The Island and One Night on the Island sound good- I must be on an island kick. :)
ReplyDeleteGreg - Sounds you need a tropical vacation! :)
DeleteForced proximity is one of my favorite tropes! Loved On the Island, The Wall of Winnipeg and Me, Hidden Waters, and One Night on the Island too!
ReplyDeleteSame here, Rachel! I'm actually reading a Catherine Cowles right now. Love her!
DeleteI do love a good forced proximity trope! I've only read The Wall of Winnipeg and Me from your list, but I LOVED that one. I do want to read more books by Rebecca Yarros and Catherine Cowles too.
ReplyDeleteLindsey - The Wall of Winnipeg and Me was the first I read from Zapata and is still a favorite. :)
DeleteWhat a great idea for this list! I love forced proximity romances. :D You know I'm a fan of Catherine Cowles. And I really liked On the Island, too.
ReplyDeleteLark - I'm actually reading one by Catherine Cowles right now. All I want to do it sit and read but the pesky job keeps getting in the way. :)
DeleteOne Night on the Island sounds really good! Here is our Top Ten Tuesday. Thank you!
ReplyDeleteThe characters really made that story. :)
DeleteI read the two Island books (look at that!). Silver's book is a favorite. I like how you went deep and picked a trope. Good idea and a fun trope to feature too
ReplyDeleteSam - While One Night on the Island wasn't my favorite from Silver, I still enjoyed it a lot. I loved that whole cast of characters. :)
DeleteThe only one I've read from your list is One Night on the Island. I found it to be ok, but not my favorite. Thanks for stopping by my blog earlier.

Pam - It wasn't my favorite by Josie Silver, but I still enjoyed it.
DeleteForced proximity can be a fun trope, not just in romance but also in mysteries (my favorite genre). It ups the tension in a story, which is always makes things more interesting :)
ReplyDeleteHappy TTT!
Susan - Fun to learn it's a trope used in mysteries as well!
DeleteOooh! The forced proximity romance sounds like an interesting genre! Great list!
ReplyDeleteHere’s my Top Ten Tuesday
Rabbit Ears Book Blog: WORLD’S WEIRDEST BOOK BLOG!
I've read Still Beating, Reason to Believe and Noble Prince. All so good, but Still Beating will live in my head for quite some time.
ReplyDeleteAlicia - I agree. I won't forget Still Beating.
DeleteStill Beating, The Wall of Winnipeg and Me, and Birthday Girl are faves of mine as well. I just downloaded Noble Prince yesterday morning, so I'm looking forward to picking that one up soon!
ReplyDeleteAlison - Hope you will love Noble Prince! The whole series was so, so good.
DeleteGreat topic choice! And one of my favorite tropes! I also enjoyed One Night on the Island, Wall of Winnipeg, and On the Island. Some of your other ones are on my tbr!
ReplyDeleteDedra - I have so much love for The Wall of Winnipeg and Me. Still a favorite. :)
DeleteI haven't read any of these, but there's forced proximity in the most recent season of Heartstopper on Netflix. It made me laugh because my high school would NEVER let teens share hotel beds on a school trip. It seems like it could end in pregnancy or STDs.
ReplyDeleteAj - I thought the same thing watching Heartstopper. Shared hotel beds... not in a million years. LOL
DeleteForced proximity is one of my favorite tropes. I love it. Catherine Cowles is fabulous and I adored Still Beating too.
ReplyDeleteRenee - I never tire of forced proximity. It's a set-up I can read again and again. :)
DeleteI've added the one by Rebecca Yarros to my TBR now. Thanks for posting :)
ReplyDeleteLucy - Reason to Believe was such a great story!
DeleteThis is one of my favorite tropes and I haven't read any of these. Taking notes!
ReplyDeleteKatherine - Hard to beat a good forced proximity story. :)
DeleteI have read the Wall of Winnipeg!
ReplyDeleteThe only book from this list that I have read is Still Beating but I have The Wall of Winnipeg and Me on my tbr.
ReplyDeleteI love forced proximity! Reason to Believe is my favorite on your list, I adored that story so much! And Chelsea and I are buddy reading (she's already read it and I haven't) The Wall of Winnipeg and Me mid September or so. I can't wait to discover that story!
ReplyDeleteI haven't read any of these books but I like the forced proximity trope so I will have a read of their blurbs! One Night on the Island is already on my TBR and re-reading the blurb, it sounds so good :)
