WWW Wednesday #131 | January 10, 2024

WWW Wednesdays is hosted by Sam @ Taking on a World of Words.
Just share your answers to three questions:
What are you currently reading?
What did you recently finish reading?
What do you think you'll read next?

It's a chilly day here - in the 50's.
Hey, don't laugh... 50's is cold for Florida! 😁
What's it like where you are?

What are you currently reading?

eARC: Ready or Not by Cara Bastone
Audio: Karma by Boy George

Currently reading: I am in desperate need of something on the lighter side and I'm
hopeful that Ready or Not will fill that need. This will be my first by Bastone.
Current progress: 4%

Currently listening: I only started Karma this morning but I'm already a little unsure about
it. I enjoy Boy George's narration (the way he laughs and chuckles at certain parts is a
delight), but it also feels very stream of consciousness with little structure. I'm sticking
with it for now and will see how it goes.
Current progress: 4%

What did you recently finish reading?

eARC: The Women by Kristin Hannah
Audio: From Lukov with Love by Mariana Zapata

Recently read: Powerful. Emotional. Gut-wrenching. I'm calling it now: The Women will
likely be my favorite of 2024. 5 stars

Recently listened to: Mariana Zapata delivered another delicious, slow-burn romance,
filled with the best snarky banter. And Ivan Lukov...   4.5 stars

What do you think you'll read next?

I never know what I'm going to read next, but
The Memory of Us is a likely candidate.

What are you reading today?

  1. This is a great start to 2024! I hope your current reads are keeping with the trend. It was 26F in the morning yesterday and 52F in the afternoon (that storm came in with a warm front). I just roll with it.

    1. Sam - I really did start 2024 with a bang... two great reads! It'd be nice to keep that going. :)

  2. 50s? We're supposed to get snow this week! lol. I'll wait to hear about Karma before I read it. I am curious about it.

    1. Deanna - Hey, I told you not to laugh at me thinking 50 degrees is cold. LOL

I think I've pretty much DNF'd Karma. As much as I enjoy Boy George, the book feels so unstructured, with little frame of reference. Very rambly.

  3. I've just had to convert fahrenheit into celcius to understand if 50s is cold or not. It's not freezing but I think I'd be enjoying those kind of temperatures. We're currently getting highs of about 4/5 degrees where I am right now (that's around 40/41 in fahrenheit I think). So glad you enjoyed From Lukov With Love it really is a great book. I'm reading the second book in the Scholomance series by Naomi Novik it's quite fun reading YA fantasy series after reading romance for a while.

  5. It is dipping into cooler weather here in Texas too. We've got a low of 15 anticipated for Monday morning. I've never been more thankful to have a holiday haha. Reading wise, I just finished Rachel Hawkins latest thriller, and now I'm revisiting a John Grisham book that I first read over 15 years ago.

    1. Ethan - 15 degrees in Texas?! Eeek! Some northerners might think that's nothing, but to me that is don't-even-think-about-going-outside cold. lol I hope you enjoyed the Grisham re-read!

  6. I didn't have to wear a coat on my daycare run this morning, so it couldn't have been that cold! So glad to hear The Women was an amazing read - Hannah's historical fiction novels are usually a hit anyway!

  7. We've been down in the low 20s all week with more snow coming this weekend. It's January in Utah. Brrr!

    1. Lark - Low 20's is bitterly cold to me! There is a chance it will drop to 29-30 degrees here on Wednesday morning and there is an ever so slight chance of snow flurries. That would be something to see! :)

  8. I truly love Mariana Zapata! Her books are so well done. I still need to read this one though. We are in the middle of a quell snow storm right now in Utah so been stuck in my apartment for a week lol But at least its not super cold in the late 30's Farenheit. One good thing about snow in Utah, it doesn't get super cold when it does.

    1. Renee - Love Mariana Zapata! And From Lukov with Love was wonderful. A snow storm? Ack! We were in North Carolina last week and one morning it was 29 degrees. Everything was covered in frost/ice. I was like, "What the heck is this nonsense? It's time to go home!" LOL

  10. I'm not sure I could make it through Karma. I can only take small amounts of stream of conscious style writing. Ready or Not looks really cute and I really want to read The Women. It looks intense.

    1. Katherine - I've pretty much DNF'd Karma. The style is just too unstructured for me. I've not made much headway of Ready or Not (been out of town and haven't been reading) but I've enjoyed the bit I've read so far!

  16. The Women is my daughter's book club pick for May for us, so I'll definitely be reading it sometime in the first half of the year. Ready or Not is another one that I hope to get to in the next couple months. I loved From Lukov With Love.

  17. That does sound cold for Florida! We're in the 50s this week, too, with a lot of rain. That Cara Bastone has such a pretty cover. I've listened to and enjoyed one of her books in the past. Hope you love it, Tanya!

  18. I'm deep into a few thrillers at the moment. I'm finding this cold weather doesn't let me focus the way I would normally want to with some heavier books. I tried to start Lauren Groff's latest the other night and had to set it aside for now.

  19. I'll be starting The Women this week so I'm glad to hear it was such a phenomenal read for you!
