As I mentioned in a recent post, 2017 was a mixed bag when it came to reading. I started off the year not only reading a lot, but reading some truly impactful and memorable books that ended up being some of my favorites of the year (A From Sand and Ash by Amy Harmon and All the Ugly and Wonderful Things by Bryn Greenwood were both from the first few weeks of the year). But there were some valleys in addition to the peaks. Like over the summer when I was drowning in arc's and forcing myself to read and review them all back to back. Or the reading slump that started in October and is still lingering. My plan for 2018? Get back to basics. Read what I want to read, when I want to read it. Simple as that.
But before moving forward, I thought I'd take a quick look back at 2017, with the help of GoodReads, of course. :)
Apparently I am The Only Person who read that short story by Annie Rains. LOL
Not only my first review of the year, but my #1 book of the entire year.
Started the year with an emotional historical fiction, ended with a swoony YA contemporary.
And now all the books that made up my year:
How was your year in reading?
Did you read a book that apparently no one else read? :)
Looks like a good year!!! I still need to get to From Sand to Ash. I love her books so I don't know why I have waited so long!
ReplyDeleteFrom Sand to Ash is amazing! I'll be excited to see what you think of it when you get around to it.
DeleteIt looks like you read some really good books! I still need to read A List of Cages and Far from the Tree.
ReplyDeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
Both A List of Cages and Far From the Tree were such emotional books. Far from the Tree made my top 10 of the year.
DeleteI hope you have a great reading year. I do want to focus more on the books that I already own and read more of what I want to read!

Thanks Lauren. That's totally my focus this year. Reading what I want to read and reading from my own shelves.
DeleteThat's quite a stat of being the only goodreads reader with that book! It looks like you had a great reading year :) I hope you manage to get out of your slump and that 2018 is a good one!
ReplyDeleteIsn't that funny? It was just a short story that Rains wrote as a bonus to one of her books but still... I figured there would have been more than just me reading it. LOL
DeleteOblivion was 1k pages? Wow! I need to read the new Amy Harmon book this year.
ReplyDeleteThe Kindle version is. The paperback is just Obsidian from Daemon's POV. Maybe 350 pages. But the Kindle version has Obsidian, Onyx and Opal all told from Daemon's POV. So it's just over 1K pages. I can't get enough of Daemon. LOL
DeleteWait! You read a book that nobody else read? Interesting. I am learning so much here. I am doing one of these next week. I was looking at my GR year in reviews and breaking down my reads. I find all these posts so interesting. Looking forward to another fantastic reading year.
ReplyDeleteI know, how weird is that? It waas just a short story that Rains wrote to go along with one of her books but still, weird that no one else marked it as read. Can't wait to see your post next week!
DeleteI want to keep my reading simpler this year too. I see several on your list that I want to read or look good- Fireworks, Tell Me Three Things, Words in Deep Blue. I liked Top Ten.
ReplyDeleteFireworks was just okay - not my favorite Cotugno. Top Ten was so much better. I wasn't a fan of Words in Deep Blue but I'm definitely in the minority with that one. Tell me Three Things was wonderful. Loved that one. Here's hoping we'll both remember to keep it simple this year!
DeleteMy GR results felt kind of skewed (I don't usually rate books but just gave a couple of three star ratings) and now my average rating is really really low. And lol on the book no one else read. Maybe you will inspire someone else to check it out!
ReplyDeleteJen Ryland Reviews
Oh no, GoodReads made you look like the harshest reviewer ever with that average rating. LOL
DeleteYou had an awesome year. The page count drives me crazy because its never accurate. LOL, it does look like you were the only one who read that book. I ended the year with K.A. Tucker's new book and started this year with Kelley Armstrong. I am off to a good start. Good luck!
ReplyDeleteYou're definitely off to a good start! And I am so excited for that new K.A. Tucker release! Just a few weeks to go!
DeleteIt is too funny that NO ONE else read that book! I mean, what are the chances?!7 other people read my least-read book. Now I want to go back and look at the other years hah. 100 books is a great accomplishment, and it looks like there were a lot of good ones in there! And you reminded me that I own From Sand and Ash and should read it soon!
ReplyDeleteI know, right? Surely others read the short story and just didn't mark it read om GR. Or didn't know a short story would be listed on GR. Because I can't truly be the only person that read it. LOL I can't even recommend From Sand and Ash enough. It's just breathtaking.
DeleteOh you read some GOOD books!! I can't believe you are the only person to have read a book. That seems so strange! Hopefully your 2018 is awesome!
ReplyDeleteI know, how weird is it to think I'm the only one that read it. I think others had to have read it but just didn't mark it as read. Surely it wasn't just me! LOL
DeleteYou read Fuel the Fire! I LOVE the Addicted series! Literally recommend them to everyone! I really wish I had gotten round to reading Dimple met Rishi in 2017, but it's top of my list for 2018! It looks like you had a great bookish year in 2017, hopefully 2018 will be just as good for you!
ReplyDeleteI adore the Addicted series! So much love for everything Krist and Becca write. And in 2017 I was apparently needed a dose of Connor so a reread of Fuel the Fire happened. :) Hope 2018 is a great reading year for both of us!
DeleteI bet Annie Rains LOVES you! LOL All the Ugly and Wonderful Things was impactful too for me but in the opposite way! BUt all the rest of the books here are AWESOME! 100 books Tanya! wow! Same happened to me in October 2016 and I almost stopped blogging altogether so yes to what you want to read when you want to read it! Have great 2018!
ReplyDeleteYeah, I think Annie Rains owes me for bring her all this attention... maybe name a character after me. LOL All the Ugly and Wonderful Things is definitely polarizing. Reading slumps are the worst but I think (fingers crossed) that I'm coming out of this one. Hope we'll both have a great 2018!
DeleteAh I hate the feeling when you get so overwhelmed with review books that it becomes almost like a chore, where you start rushing through them and not necessarily reading what you want to read. It's exhausting. I hope you have a much more fun, relaxed reading year, Tanya, and manage to get out of the slump :)
ReplyDeleteAmy @ A Magical World Of Words
Exactly! I mean, I wanted to read the arcs (since I requested them) but I really did it to myself, getting into the position of having too many at once. And the, like you said, I wasn't reading what I wanted to read. Lesson learned! :) Hopefully we'll both have a great reading year!
DeleteOoh, you had quite a good reading year despite the difficulties. I've cut back on review copies because seeing various unread ARCs makes me so stressed that I go into a slump 9 out of 10 times haha. #truestory Do you think Wicked and Torn by JLA are worth reading? I've been debating picking them up for awhile, but never actually got around to. (I mean, from the fact that you read Wicked twice I'd guess it IS worth reading, but I wanted to ask just in case.) ANYHOW, good luck for 2018, hope it'll be a lot less stressful & you won't fall into any slumps. :)
ReplyDeleteVeronika @ The Regal Critiques
Yep, too many ARCs is just overwhelming. Not saying I won't request any this year but they will definitely be few and far between. I definitely recommend Wicked and Torn. If you enjoy paranormal/romance at all this series is a lot of fun. New Orleans, Fae, a strong female MC, a swoony love interest, and a Brownie named Tink that steals every scene. LOL Plus the final book just released last month so you wouldn't have to wait in between books for ages. Hope you'll enjoy them if you decide to give them a try! :)
DeleteI love Goodreads Year in Books---it's such a fun way to see it all laid out! I think it's funny that you're the only person who marked that you read that short story on Goodreads. That's got to be a first!
ReplyDeleteNicole @ Feed Your Fiction Addiction
Same here, Nicole. It's fun to see the whole year wrapped up like that with all the statistics. (Not as cool as all your charts and graphs, though! :)
DeleteIt looks like you had a really great year in books! I have a personal goal to some day hit 100 books but it hasn't happened yet. Last year I was nowhere near that goal lol. I hope that 2018 goes just as well for you!
ReplyDeleteI think adding audio books to the mix went a long way in making me reach 100 books last year. I actually lowered my goal this year to 50. I decided I want to focus more on quality instead of quantity and basically just read what I want, when I want. :) Hope we both have a great reading year!
