The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Caffeinated Book Reviewer.
It's a chance to share news - a post to recap the past week on your blog,
showcase books and things we have received, and share news about what is
coming up on your blog in the week ahead. You can find the info here:
- The big news here is Hurricane Dorian. It's pretty much all anyone talks about and we stay glued to The Weather Channel for the storm track updates (every 3 hours). Things were looking rather grim on Friday but Dorian is now expected to take a turn to the east which is good for us. It might not make landfall in Florida at all. This is great news since this is an incredibly powerful storm, but now it looks like North Carolina could take a big hit... and that's where my husband's family is. Needless to say, we are still keeping a very close watch since anything could change in the next few days.
- I won concert tickets this week (yay!)... and ended up declining the offer (boo!). Anyone remember O.M.D. (Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark) from the 80's? If you're under the age of 40, it's doubtful you will know who I'm talking about. LOL Anyway, when I checked the venue I saw that it was general admission with no seating. Say what? That's great for outdoor concerts but I'm well past the point of being packed in like sardines with no seating to watch an indoor show. So I declined the tickets. Instead, spent Friday night at home, had my mom over for dinner and a movie. Time well spent. :)
- I finally found the artwork I wanted for the master bedroom (yes, that project is still in-work). The prints were digital downloads from etsy so I got them printed, found the frames I liked, and The Husband hung them for me. So, so close to be finished with the whole makeover project!
- Hooray for a three-day weekend! Today will be the usual Sunday stuff (grocery shopping, laundry) and that leaves tomorrow open for... whatever. Maybe even reading? *gasp!* What's on your agenda today?
- And now a little O.M.D...

WHAT I COMPLETED IN THE LAST WEEK:
That would be nothing. Absolutely nothing.
WHAT I'M CURRENTLY READING:
I'm enjoying this one but I'm not exactly flying through it. Today makes a week since I started it and I just reached the 50% mark. I think it's more me than the book, though. 1) I think I'm a bit slumpy since finishing The Reckless Oath We Made. And 2) the past week has been spent on everything but reading (mainly hurricane preparations). I am enjoying the story, though, so hopefully I'll finish it in the next few days.

How was your week? Any new books? Any news to share?
I'd love to hear about it!
Tanya, please keep us updated! I mean, I'm still looking at the hurricane and all the news since my husband is supposed to fly out of Atlanta on Wednesday. I was going to DM you on Twitter but you need to follow me in order for Twitter to let me DM for some reason.
ReplyDeleteI have a friend who lives in NC and I'm so worried for her because she left PR when Hurricane Maria happened. And now she could be facing the same thing over there. Not only that, the PTSD she must be going through with this, and every Puerto Rican there :/ it's really sad.
Genesis @ Whispering Chapters
We got so lucky, Genesis! So thankful that Dorian stayed off the coast of Florida. We had some bad weather but nothing like it could have been. Now my husbands kids (adults) are being impacted in North Carolina. I hope your husband made it home okay without too many delays. And hopefully your friend is doing okay in NC!
DeleteI have been keeping my fingers crossed, that Dorian turns and is way off the coast. The waiting must be terribly painful. ((HUGS)) OMD. Wow! That takes me back. Pretty in Pink is my all-time favorite movie, so, they hold a special place in my heart.
ReplyDeleteThanks Sam. The week leading up to Wednesday (when Dorian reached our coast) was so stressful. The constant watching reports and updates, the waiting and preparing. My sister (who lives at the beach) was a wreck after days and days of stress. Thankfully, we were very, very lucky and it stayed off the coast. Lots of strong wind and rain but we were fine. Never even lost power!
DeletePretty In Pink is one of my faves. ♥
I hope Dorian will stay far far away from you Tanya! And yes I recall OMD so what does it say about my age? LOL
ReplyDeleteIt says that we are apparently old and decrepit and we remember when music was awesome. LOL
DeleteUh-oh I haven't really been paying attention to Dorian. My brother is in Florida (Tampa) and he was not worried. But I am in NC! Not on the coast though. Here's hoping the weather does not hit too badly anywhere.
ReplyDeleteIt's fun to get those projects done. I'm in the middle of several since I moved and want to get everything set up now.
Have a great week and enjoy your books!
Anne - Books of My Heart Here is my Sunday Post
I hope you are faring okay with Dorian, Anne! Hopefully you are nowhere near the coast. My stepdaughter is in Beaufort and my stepson is in New Bern... both right on the water. The one that didn't evacuate has been without power since 4 AM this morning. I hope you are safe!!
DeleteI hope Dorian turns and avoids everyone!! I have friends in NC and a category 5 hurricane isn't something ANYONE wants to deal with. Stay safe!!
ReplyDeleteI hope your friends in NC are okay, Samantha! That's where my step-kids are and they are getting hit hard by Dorian today.
DeleteWe have a house in Florida so definitely keeping an eye on that bloody hurricane.
ReplyDeleteI remember OMD for sure! Isn't it silly how they put bands that only people over 40 remember in a venue with general seating that only people under 25 would be willing to deal with? If you want people over 40 to go to a show, you had better offer reserved seating.
Hope your house in FL fared okay!
DeleteRight? Why in the world would people of the age to go to an OMD show be willing to stand for 2 hours? Understand your audience, people. Reserved seating or bust. LOL
Oh, how I laughed at the totally random... That is sadly oh too true in this house!
ReplyDeleteI'm glad the hurricane is passing Florida by but it sucks that it's going to land somewhere... Hopefully it'll decrease in strength.
I like the wall art and the colour of the wall! We've been meaning to buy something to hang on our bedroom feature wall since moving in but have so far found nothing we like (and agree on!)
Thanks Nicci. WE got very lucky with Dorian since it stayed off our coast. Bad wind and rain but we were fine. Now it's hitting North Carolina where my husband's (adult) kids are. At least its weakened to a Category 1 storm.
DeleteFinding the right artwork can be so hard! I looked for so long before finding what I wanted. I ended up finding the prints I like don etsy! They were digital downloads (sooo inexpensive!) so I was able to have them printed in the exact size I wanted and frame them myself. Easy peasy!
I hope Dorian misses you guys- it does look like a scary storm. Hopefully it will stay out to sea where it belongs! And yes I remember OMD! I'm with you, general admission- no seating- doesn't sound as fun as when I was 18 lol. I think I would have passed too. :)
ReplyDeleteThat Random cracked me up! Wait- aren't they supposed to stay in the tote?? :)
Have a great Labor Day!
We had a near miss with Dorian and really got lucky!
DeleteYeah, general admission at 18... no problem! General admission today... not happening. LOL
I'm so glad that it looks like Dorian won't hit you guys. Hopefully it'll miss the Carolinas too. I totally agree with you about the no seating thing---no thank you!

I think NC is getting hammered today by Dorian. My stepdaughter texted that they lost power at 4 AM this morning. At least the storm weakened quite a bit before it made landfall!
DeleteI hope you and your family remain safe from Dorian.
ReplyDeleteI remember OMD and loved If You Leave... any one who has seen Pretty In Pink will surely be familiar.
Have a great reading week
Thanks - we got lucky and escaped a direct hit.
DeleteIf someone remembers Pretty In Pink they'll definitely remember If You Leave. :)
I hope that you and your family are safe during this hurricane. My oldest daughter is currently in South Carolina so I have to admit that I am a bit nervous. I don't think I would be up for general admission tickets either. I need a chair! I hope you have a great day today, Tanya!
ReplyDeleteThanks Carole. We did just fine. How about your daughter? Hopefully she wasn't impacted by the flooding in Charleston and along the coast.
DeleteYou and your family are definitely in my thoughts Tanya, I hope you get some reading in today.
ReplyDeleteThanks Amber! We got very lucky with Dorian! Tropical storm force winds and rain but no damage. *big sigh of relief*
DeleteI hope that your safe from Dorian - and your husband's family too!! Sorry you weren't able to accept the concert tickets; I'm not a huge fan of no-seat seating for concerts either. Sounds like you had a nice Friday though.

Thanks Lauren! We were very lucky with Dorian! It stayed off the coast so it could have been much worse. Very grateful!
DeleteI really hope Dorian steers clear of you. I still can't believe it stalled out over the Bahamas for as long as it did.
ReplyDeleteThanks Suzanne. I've never seen a hurricane stall like Dorian did over the Bahamas. It was a worst case scenario for sure. For us, Dorian stayed off the coast and we got lucky. How are you doing in your area? Anywhere near the coast? I have a stepdaughter in Beaufort, NC and they lost power early this morning. My stepson in New Bern evacuated. Hope all is well with you!
DeleteI've read of the hurricane's updates and where it's heading, also its aftermath in some places, and it's scary. I do hope your husband's family is safe.
ReplyDeleteOn the lighter news, I'm excited for you to complete the master bedroom's look!
Thanks Chai! The devastation in the Bahamas is just heartbreaking. Luckily we did fine her in northeast FL. It's making itself know in NC today but my husband's family is doing okay.
DeleteAfter seeing the devastation Dorian has already caused I totally get keeping a very close eye on where it's headed. Hope you and your family managed to miss the worst of it. And I totally get being slow reading something and it's very much you not the book, it's frustrating to say the least. I hope you've managed to get further into The Flatshare.
ReplyDeleteThanks Becky. We were very, very lucky with Dorian. It stayed far enough off the coast that the impact was lessened. So very thankful!
DeleteI finally finished The Flatshare! Gold star for me. LOL I didn't love it but it really was a good story (despite me taking forever to read it).
