The Sunday Post #211

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Caffeinated Book Reviewer.
It's a chance to share news - a post to recap the past week on your blog,
showcase books and things we have received, and share news about what is
coming up on your blog in the week ahead. You can find the info here:

  • I returned to the office this week and it went well. I wasn't overly worried about safety, to be honest, because my office is rather contained with just three other people. And it's not like there's a lot of people coming in, unless they have a specific purpose to be in there (coming in to see one of the Board of Directors). If I sat out in Cubicle Land I'd be a lot more concerned. There's also custodial staff moving throughout the building the whole day, cleaning and sanitizing. Plus, it was still pretty empty. I think most are waiting to return on June 15.
  • I went into a store yesterday - the first time I ventured into something other than a grocery store - for the first times in two and a half months. It felt *so* strange. But I desperately need some clothes that fit and I'm hesitant to order things online since I can't try them on. Joke was on me, because I couldn't try anything on at the store, either. Fitting rooms were closed. But thankfully everything fit so it was a successful outing.
  • The Husband talked me into getting an Apple Watch so I've been having fun with that this week. It was always a great excuse to shop on Amazon for watch bands (since I don't like the one that came with the watch). I ended up with three  - one casual, two nicer ones - and they're all working out well.

  • This week's 80's music fix is Fields of Fire (1983) by Big Country. They were better known for In a Big Country (which is still one of my favorites) but I loved this one, too. I always liked the way they could make the guitars sound like bagpipes.

  1. Lol, yeah it does feel like we've just reached another jumanji level, doesn't it? Makes you wonder about level 12 (December). I'm glad returning to the office went well. They're planning on allowing everyone back on June 15th at my office, but at managers discretion. I'll still be at home.

Have a great week and stay safe!

    1. I don't even want to think about level 12, Berls. LOL

  2. Ha, I love that Totally Random! It just seems like one thing after another these days!

  3. What a great week. I am happy you are feeling safe at work. As long as ppl social distance I feel fine but then I have never really feared this thing to be honest. And getting back to shopping at stores is so STRANGE. I love being able to do it again. Its those simple things in life we take for granted. My sister has an apple watch and she LOVES it. Hope you love it. I ADORED Timid, such a lovely book.

    1. Shopping definitely felt strange, and it's still not something I'm comfortable doing often (too many people not wearing masks or observing distancing). I'm excited for Timid. I just love Devney Perry.

  4. You know I immediately began singing Big Country. Such a good song. I was talking to my boss, asking if they would be making any changes for us to come back to the office, and they have not told him about anything. He thinks we will be home until the end of the summer. CRAZY! Enjoy your new Apple toy. Looks like you are having some fun with the bands and all.

    1. I love that song, Sam! And it has one of the husband's favorite lyrics ever: "I never took the smile away from anybody's face." If you can say that, you've done well. :) I sure wouldn't have any issue with staying home through the summer!

  5. I'm glad to hear that going back to the office wasn't too bad. I sit in cubicle land at my office so I have no interest whatsoever in going back anytime soon. That Totally Random feels very fitting too, lol.

    1. I can understand that, Suzanne. If I sat out in the "general population" I would be so wary of returning. Thankfully, I'm pretty separate from everyone.

  6. Glad going back to work went well and that they were cleaning all day! That's a relief. I love my apple watch and I have 3 different bands as well. One leather one that is fancier, one silicone one that's good for when I'm sweating or getting dirty because its easy to clean, and one cloth type one.

    1. I wasn't a fan of the silicone one that came with the watch but I absolutely love the three ones I bought off Amazon. I can't even pick a favorite. :)

  7. I wouldn't be comfortable going back to an office so I'm glad it went well. We just stay home and get deliveries.

It's great the clothes worked out for you. I needed some capri pants last year and was able to get what I needed with Prime Wardrobe, but I don't know if they are still doing it. I did have to return some to get what I wanted so it worked out great for me.

Have a lovely week. Stay safe and be well!

    1. I definitely prefer shopping online (for anything) but I wanted to try things on since my weight has changed. No fitting rooms were open but luckily everything fit. Yay!

  8. I work in cubic land Tanya so I am in no hurry to get back to the office! And I still ventured and ordered clothes online but just because I ordered the exact same jeans I have (shape, size and all) or went to a brand I already had clothes from (and chose the same shapes and sizes).

    1. Normally I prefer to shop online, too, but size my size has changed I ventured out so I could try things on. No fitting rooms open, though, which makes sense.

  9. I'm glad you're not too stressed returning to work. My county just entered Phase 2 of our reopening. I feel like people still aren't wearing masks enough.

You had a great reading week! I see some of my favorite authors there!

  10. I'm glad returning to work went well! I had a single day in office this week and I was so excited! It was nice to talk to people even though all the "Covid Safe" measures put in place felt weird and unnatural... Sign of the times, I guess. Going outside feels weird and unnatural! lol

I also desperately need to go clothes shopping... Or lose weight. Or both. (Lockdown has not been kind.) Happy you managed to nail the sizing without trying things on! I rarely manage that.

Timid sounds awesome! Hope you enjoy it.

    1. Yep, being at this office, and just being out in general, definitely feels weird! I think it will be a long time before it starts to feel normal again.

I've been on the WW plan since last fall and have lost about 30 lbs (14 kg) so I wasn't even sure what my size was at this point. Only that I desperately needed some pants that weren't falling off. LOL

  11. I don't think I've been in a store (other than grocery) since March either! Wow. I was just thinking how cool it would be to go browse Barnes & Noble haha but I'm a little leery of that! Glad your back to work went well so far. Cubicle land is definitely a scary idea so I hope everyone is able to take it slow in that sense.

Big Country! Good one. Golly I miss guitars. :)

  12. Happy to hear going back to work wasn't stressful and you're keeping safe. I haven't been to a clothing store yet. But that's probably mostly because I do pretty well with online shopping since I wasn't much of an in-store shopper before covid. I did go to a couple of wine tastings with my hubby and felt pretty safe as it was outside and they took really good steps to keep us safe. It was so nice getting out again for something like that!

I'm interested in hearing your thoughts on What You Left Behind.

    1. I actually prefer online shopping but since I've lost some weight I wasn't even sure what size I was at this point. Thankfully it worked out well!

  13. I've done most of my grocery shopping at Target these last couple of weeks, so haven't felt any pressing need to go anywhere else. I did go into my local Goodwill last week, which is where I do most of my clothing shopping. I never try anything on and have become pretty good at just eyeing up clothing size-wise. Happy reading!

    1. That's great that you've had such good luck without trying things on. I've lost a bit of weight over the last 5-6 months so I wasn't even quite sure what my size was at this point.

  14. I really liked What You Left Behind - hope you enjoy it too.

I'm glad that work has been going well, and that's great that there aren't too many people around. Hopefully things continue to go well on June 15.

  15. I love the watch bands. I’m in a similar situation with clothes shopping. I desperately need new exercise pants because mine are too big, but I can’t try anything on! I hope you have a good week.

  18. I'm glad your office has only a few people and your first week back went really well. Congrats on getting a new apple watch. I love mine, and shopping for watch bands is always a lot of fun. LOL about the Jumanji quote, but so true! I hope you have a fantastic week Tanya!

  19. I got my hair done this week and it was WEIRD. But I felt safe. they had a lot of precautions in place and wearing a mask during it all wasn't as bad as I thought it would be.

  20. We're not going into the office until after Labor Day and I"m still nervous. We'll be in cubicles (and there is over 150 of us) and most of us have to take transit since it's downtown. Bleh.

I haevn't been into a shop in a while! Matt went to our Target a few days ago which is attached to a mall and he said that the mall was packed!

    1. I would have been a whole lot more nervous about returning to the office if I sat out on the floor in cubicle land. But I'm in the executive suite and there are only 4 of us in there - the three executive officers and me. My desk is completely separate from their offices and there's little traffic in and out of the executive suite so I haven't been overly concerned. But if I had to use public transport and sit in a cubicle all day... yeah, I'd want to WFH for as long as possible.
