The Sunday Post #217

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Caffeinated Book Reviewer.
It's a chance to share news - a post to recap the past week on your blog,
showcase books and things we have received, and share news about what is
coming up on your blog in the week ahead. You can find the info here:

  • There are now four confirmed positive COVID cases at my office and it was announced Friday that effective immediately the company is reverting back to mandatory WFH (work from home). I'd had no contact with any of those who tested positive so I am not overly concerned, but it's still disheartening. Cases here in Florida continue to climb and climb and the state/local officials continue to refuse to take any substantive measures to stem it.
  • In other devastating news, I haven't been able to find my Diet Cherry Vanilla Coke Zero in several weeks. This is tragic. If they have quit making it I will be driven into a deep period of mourning.
  • This week's 80's music fix: I was all about synth-pop in the early 80's and Don't Go (1982) by Yazoo was one of my favorites. Alison Moyet's voice was so deep and husky and gorgeous.

WHAT I COMPLETED IN THE LAST WEEK:
WHAT I'M CURRENTLY READING:

PHYSICAL BOOKS:

I've been listening to Boyfriend Material on audio and I'm telling you, it is bringing me absolute joy. This book... where has it been all my life? I decided I needed a physical copy for the times I need an immediate Luc+Oliver fix.

How was your week? Any new books? Any news to share?
I'd love to hear about it!

  1. I actually know this song! The keyboardist's hair is so definitive 80s. Sorry to hear about your co-workers. I hope they are on their way to recovery or asymptomatic. At least your leadership made a good decision for your team. Have you googled your Coke Zero to see if they are still making it? Everything I like gets discontinued.

    1. I found a reddit thread about the shortage and there are different theories but the main one seems to be an aluminum shortage. So they're only bottling the main lines (coke, diet coke) and not the flavors. I'm just shy of having withdrawals. lol

  2. Yikes, that is scary news about your office! Glad to hear your company made the right decision in closing the office.

    1. Yes, they've been pretty proactive through this whole thing.

  3. Ok so here is the deal with Coke. They stopped producing the various flavors of everything in order to lessen production (they had to social distance in the manufacturing so they can't produce as much). So you can get regular coke, coke zero, and regular sprite. I would think they are probably gearing back up at this point, but it could still be awhile before we are able to get anything. I'm dying without my Vanilla Coke Zero and my Diet Dr Pepper and Cream Soda.
I'm glad to hear your company decided to go back to WFH! So many companies are just saying "Hey, we have a confirmed case so we will clean tonight. See ya tomorrow". A student at my last school (where I taught) was confirmed to have it and he had been practicing with the football team. The school just sent a letter that said "hey watch for signs your kid might have it. We will clean the weight room. See ya tomorrow for practice!" Sigh.

    1. Thanks for the info, Samantha! I can't wait until I can find my Cherry Vanilla Coke Zero again. I'm rationing my stash. LOL I just had the Diet Dr. Pepper & Cream Soda rec'd to me a few days ago so I haven't even tried it yet. I have a feeling I will love it!

  4. I love your dramatics Tanya!!! Yes no coke of your favorite flavor LOL But seriously I am glad you are back homeworking with the mounting cases in Florida! We are waiting for additional measures today as the cases are rising again!!! Now Alexis Hall...I listened to a sample of the audio but it does not work for me! Yet I plan on reading it the old fashion way. Stay safe!

    1. Sorry to hear cases are on the rise again there, Sophie. :(
Too bad the audio for Boyfriend Material didn't work for you but I bet the physical/ebook is every bit as good!

  5. I'm sorry about your office, but I'm glad that you weren't in contact with any of those workers. Coke Zero in general was tough to find for awhile, but I'm seeing it more, so hopefully your flavor will pop back up soon! And I really need a finished copy of Boyfriend Material as well - such a great book.

    1. I'll be checking online for the Coke Zero products often. They've become my favorite!

  6. That’s terrible news about your work but I’m so glad you weren’t in contact.

We don’t have that coke here in Scotland, I have to improvise by mixing a can of each flavour, we never get the good flavours you get in the States though we do get cinnamon coke at Christmas.

    Have a good week.

  7. I am sorry about the situation with your work, this whole situation is so heartbreaking on any level. But it is helping me appreciate the blessings in life. Not a coke drinker (I don't drink caffeine) but sorry to hear they aren't making your favorite flavor. Hope it comes back when this covid thing is done and life gets back to normal.

I will be honest that I haven't even thought twice about Boyfriend Material, mostly because I steer clear of most animated covers, but now that you have loved it so much I am going to request it from my library. :) Hope you have a wonderful week, stay safe and be blessed.

    1. I am completely over the illustrated cover trend, it's so overdone, but even so I still loved the sound of Boyfriend Material. And the audio version is just perfection. :)

  8. I am so glad you had no contact and now are safe at home. I checked all the places I buy stuff and they had cherry or black cherry coke zero but no cherry vanilla. I like Pure Leaf Peach tea and some years they don't have it in NC so I have to order it online. They don't have diet Mountain Dew in Canada only regular so when I went on a trip there on my Harley I had to take my own supply. Have a lovely week. Stay safe and be kind.

    1. I tried Pure Leaf once a year or so back but it wasn't for me. That's a shame you can't find it locally. Hopefully my Cherry Vanilla Coke Zero will be back soon. :)

  9. Haha, I’ve heard people pronounce the “l” in salmon. I don’t like it. Sorry about the COVID and the Coke. I don’t think I could live without Diet Coke. Have a great week!

  10. That is pretty scary that four of your coworkers have tested positive. I really hope they'll all be okay and that no one else has it. That sucks about your favorite soda too. It's so strange the random things that we're having shortages of right now. My husband and I are trying to replace some old boards on our deck and apparently there's also a lumber shortage.

    1. Wow, I hadn't heard about the lumber shortage. But you're right, there have been such random shortages since this all started. Hopefully you'll be able to work on the deck soon.

  11. I'm so happy you didn't have any contact with the co-workers that tested positive, and that you're back at home. Our numbers here in California have been skyrocketing too. They've rolled back a bunch of re-openings and kids aren't going back to in class learning. I wish people would wear a mask!

Glad to hear you're loving Boyfriend Material!

    1. They are still pushing for schools to reopen here and that just blows my mind. I just can't imagine that it can be done safely.

      Boyfriend Material is just fantastic!

  12. How scary to have so many cases in your office. Stay safe!

I really like a lot of Alison Moyet's songs, either with Yazoo or solo!

  13. Sorry to hear about the cases of COVID in your office, but I'm glad you weren't exposed. It doesn't seem surprising, considering. That salmon quote at the end made me laugh, by the way!!

  14. OHHH I feel you, there has been NO Cherry Coke Zero OR Diet Cherry Coke OR any of the diet cherry Pepsi varieties (desperate times and all) to be found here for MONTHS. I have asked store workers because again, desperation, and no one can seem to decide whether it's aluminum or cherry issues. Because I have seen some other diet varieties of not just regular Coke/Pepsi, like some kind of orange stuff, or just straight vanilla, so who knows. Anyway, I REALLY hope they are back soon for both our sakes.

I am also really sorry about Florida just like, as a state at this point, and that you have such garbage "leadership". It's infuriating, and while I am glad you are (likely and hopefully) okay, how many people aren't? It's just beyond words, and I am glad you are now WFH again and can stay safe.

Also, THAT QUOTE wow can anything be more accurate? 😂

    1. Weird, isn't it? I've heard that it's an aluminum shortage and they're only bottling the "main" flavors but like you mentioned I've seen orange Coke and other flavors so who knows.

Yeah, the "leadership" (I use the term loosely) here in FL is laughable. And non-existent. The governor had a press conference today and actually said that unfortunately people are concentrating too much on the # of cases. Uh, what else should we be concentrating on? Seems important to me but apparently I'm wrong. Gah!

  15. Boyfriend Material is making me happy too! i just have to find more time to listen to it.

My husband has had to go into work a few times a weekend they've had a few scares but so far everyone has been negative. One guy is out until his granddaughter's test results come back because she has a rash. *fingers crossed* it's nothing.

My husband hasn't been able to find his cereal. it's not even online and we might be hitting crisis mode lol

    1. I hope things continue to be safe at your husband's office.
The shortages seem so random at times. Some things make sense (people freaking out and hording anti-bac items) but then there are Cokes and cereal and it just seems weird.

  16. Confession time. I'm absolutely addicted to Coke Zero. Years ago, it was Dr. Pepper, so I guest there's no sugar at least. But I've made special shopping trips specifically to buy Coke Zero lol. So I feel your pain in not being able to find your favorite!

  17. I so remember Don't Go, that makes me want to go jazzercise lol! Here's hoping you can find your Diet Cherry Vanilla Coke Zero! I'm in the middle of making an online order at Walmart for pickup later on today and they have 2 in stock, here's hoping you can find some soon and I wish I could order them and just give them to you!

  18. I am so glad you're back WFH! 4 cases is 4 too many. I just found out my mom's cousin has COVID. He had only been to Costco and the Wendy's drive thru. That freaked me out a bit since his chances of contact were so low. Luckily, he's okay so far. I was going to apply for a job this year at my daughter's elementary school, but didn't because I just wasn't sure how things are going to go. It was sad because I have been waiting for the job to open for years. :(

  19. It's great your office is taking things seriously and mandating WFH again but it sucks that things are so out of control in your state... That must be so worrying. :(

TM Frazier seems to have been a hit! Sometimes some bookish dark and twistiness is just what a person needs to stay sane.

    Take care Tanya!

  20. I hope you find your cherry vanilla coke zero soon! I can just imagine if my diet Dr. Pepper went missing from shelves. I'd probably cry at this point. LOL! Stay safe! My husband had a coworker that vacationed in Florida a couple weeks ago. He spoke with him the Monday he came back and then found out that afternoon that he was sent home because he was sick. My hubs didn't notice. Well, the coworker tested positive. So my hubs and several coworkers had to go get tested. Thank God he and the rest of the employees tested negative. Unfortunately my hubs doesn't have a job that can be done from home.

    1. First, I can't imagine any vacationing in FL right now. I mean, I get people still want to travel and enjoy the summer but seriously? FL is just not the place to be. But I'm really sorry that he got the virus. And so relieved that your husband tested negative! It's really scary.
