Top Ten Tuesday: The Books I Anticipate/Avoid

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl.

This week's Top Ten Tuesday topic:
The Books I Anticipate/Avoid

This week's topic is actually about the books we avoid for whatever reasons. The length is intimidating, we're scared it won't live up to the hype, etc. But I don't avoid books for those reasons. My reason isn't about avoidance... it's all about anticipation. Sometimes I think I enjoy the anticipation of reading a book as much as the reading experience itself.

There are certain books that I am certain I am going to love. Ones that will have a big emotional impact. Become all-time favorites. It could be because it's a sequel and I already fell in love with the previous book(s). Or it could be a standalone that I just have a good feeling about - one that seems to check all my boxes for tropes I love. I love the anticipation of reading those special books. The feeling that an extraordinary reading experience is right at my fingertips. And apparently I enjoy prolonging that feeling of anticipation because I have some books that I have been putting off (or, for the sake of Top Ten Tuesday, avoiding) for years. So here are 10 books that have me basking in the anticipation... and loving every minute of it.

Five Years Gone | Marie Force        The Last Letter | Rebecca Yarros
The Great Alone | Kristin Hannah       The Story of Us | Tara Sivec       Fisher's Light | Tara Sivec

What the Wind Knows | Amy Harmon          Punk 57 | Penelope Douglas
The Son & His Hope | Pepper Winters          Tatiana and Alexander | Paullina Simons
Damaged Like Us | Krista & Becca Ritchie

HAVE YOU READ ANY OF THESE BOOKS?
IS THERE A BOOK YOU AVOID?

    1. Kristin Hannah is practically an auto-buy for me but for some reason I just haven't picked up The Great Alone yet.

    1. I've heard The Great Alone gets pretty dark so I need to be ready for that kind of read.

  4. I love this reason for why you avoid books and the more I think about it, the more I think it might be the same for many of the books currently overflowing my shelves 😂 The anticipation of reading a book you know you'll love is quite exciting! I just worry that if I leave it for too long, the anticipation will fade haha
I've only read The Great Alone from your list and IT. WAS. AMAZING! I can't believe I let that one sit on my shelf for so long 🤪

  5. Tatiana and Alexander...I admit, I didn't like this book as much as the first book. It was worth picking up for the first fourth, as I recall, but afterwards yeah, the story could've ended then lol. Interesting list!

    1. Uh-oh, I'm kind of nervous after hearing that. Hopefully I'll enjoy it more than you did.

  6. Great list! I know exactly what you mean, I have some books on my TBR that I'm so sure I'm going to love - like The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo - that I just can't bring myself to read them yet, because then I won't have them to look forward to anymore.

    1. Yes, yes, yes! You get it! :)

I will say that Evelyn Hugo is excellent and it's worth moving past the anticipation and actually reading it. LOL

  7. You have some really good ones in your list. The Great Alone is one I'd love to read.

  8. I hate to say it, but I gave up on Marie Force a few years ago. Her series got too long and I'm sad to say I lost interest. I did read The Last Letter, The Great Alone, What the Wind Knows, and Damaged Like Us. I loved all of them. You must read them! Punk 57 is a book that could have made my list this week. I've owned that one for a long time and have never read it.

    1. I've actually never read anything by Marie Force. I know she's written *a LOT* but it was Five Years Gone with its military aspect that really caught my eye. I'm excited hearing about the others, though. Hearing you loved them makes me want to read them all NOW. :)

  10. I do the same thing. I wait and wait for a book and then sometimes I get it, and it sits. Unread. For copious amounts of time haha. I don't get it! :)

Hopefully these are all awesome when you get to them!

  11. I liked The Story of Us. That's right up my alley. I still want to try Great Alone again. I started the audiobook, but the story is too slow for listening. I think I have to read it.

  12. Reposting for complete comment:
Yes, someone else who understands the sweet art of anticipation! I don't know what it is, but I have so many where I'm like, "This will be better later," and am actually very content knowing that it's coming. It comes in very handy in terms of not feeling pressured to rush out and buy most new releases.

    1. Yes! You explain it so well! :) I love the anticipation... knowing that I have it to look forward to. A one of a kind reading experience is waiting for me. I like what you said about "very content knowing that it's coming." I totally agree. :)

  13. I don't really avoid books I think I'm going to love. Honestly, I get distracted by review books and library books and I really want to focus more on the books I already own or buy for myself. So it's more lack of time, to be honest. LOL I do want to read Punk 57 though!

    1. I have it on my Kindle but I've been in a total physical book phase for a while now. I think I'll buy in it paperback soon and then dive in.

  15. I'm avoiding The Great Alone too. NOT SURE WHY, but I keep avoiding it? My mom let me borrow her copy and it's just kind of chilling on my desk right now because apparently I cannot be trusted to read it haha! ANYWAYS, me flying up in your comments with the obligatory, "I AM SO EXCITED FOR YOU TO READ THE LIKE US SERIES!" comment.

    1. Maybe we can both tackle The Great Alone before the end of the year. Maybe...

I keep flip-flopping on whether to reread the whole Addicted series before I launch into the Like Us series. Gah! We're talking major decision here. That would be one heck of a commitment.

  16. I agree that a lot of times these books we avoid are the ones we're really anticipating. Hope you love these!

  17. I'm familiar with a lot of these names but haven't read any of them except The Last Letter which I'm still emotionally damaged from! (And I wish I was exaggerating or joking!)
    Enjoy the anticipation ;)

  19. MY INTERNET CONNECTION HERE SUCKS AND IT DIDN'T PUBLISH MY COMMENT LAST TUESDAY *sighs* anyway, I read Punk 57 and while I liked the book, it still didn't stop me from wanting it to hurl across the room a bunch of times. It's a love-hate relationship kind of thing.
