Addiction is part of Krit Corbin’s nature, and women are his favorite obsession. But that’s the life of a lead singer in a band. He can have any woman he wants—anywhere, anytime.
Blythe Denton is used to being alone. The minister’s family who raised her never accepted her, and they made it clear how unworthy she was of love. So when she finally gets the chance, Blythe moves into her own apartment. Too bad there’s a loud upstairs neighbor who throws parties all night long.
When Krit and Blythe finally cross paths, Krit realizes he can’t possibly resist this girl—her sexy innocence is just too much for him to ignore. Now determined to win Blythe over, Krit Corbin may have found his biggest addiction yet. But innocence isn’t meant for the addictive

As much as I loved the Rosemary Beach series, the Sea Breeze series just doesn't do it for me. The characters are all the same, the dialogue makes me roll my eyes (repeatedly) and the storylines are completely predictable.
But...
I still can't seem to help myself. Because sometimes something by Abbi Glines just hits the spot. When I need something light that doesn't requiretoo much any thought, an Abbi Glines book is like brain candy. And that's what Bad for You was. We have Krit, the unrepentant manwhore who is a total douchbag. His tragic childhood, which obviously explains his manwhore ways, is hinted at but never explained. Then there's Blythe, Abbi's typical heroine. Beautiful but has no idea, virginal, and innocent/naive beyond belief. Naturally Blythe is drawn to Krit and naturally Krit knows Blythe is the one and only girl to change his manwhore ways. I made a note on page *four* that I'd already figured out the big twist and (no surprise) I was right. The foreshadowing was not subtle, my friends. LOL
With all the crap I give the books in this series it probably sounds like I hate them and it's puzzling why I keep reading them. But I actually do enjoy them for what they are: total escapism at its cheesy finest. So eye-rollingly bad that it's good. And even though I gleefully point out the flaws, I'm still so here for it. 😊

What are your brain candy reads?
I liked this series. It gave me exactly what I expected, and I appreciated it for that. This was a solid book for me. It hit the spot, which is what I can say for most of Glines' books. And, I, like you, pick these up for total escape. I can just shut out the world and lose myself in the character's drama.
ReplyDeleteHer books really are total escapism, which makes them perfect for right now. :)
DeleteIn the crazy times we're in right now it's nice to have a series to take you away, cheesiness and all! :)
ReplyDeleteExactly, Rachel! It's the perfect time for some cheesy escapism that I can read quickly and not have to think too much about. :)
DeleteHa! I totally get it. Sometimes you just need that cheesy feel good story. No brain power necessary and you can totally escape the chaos around you!
ReplyDeleteLOL That sums this series up, Alison. No brain power necessary. And right now that's just what I need.
DeleteMy brain candy reads are definitely anything by James Patterson. His books have gotten to the point where they are almost laughably unbelievable, but I can't help but get sucked into his quick pace and short chapters! There's no harm in a little brain candy these days.
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness, so true about about James Patterson, Ethan. It seems like he threw in the towel years ago and now he just slaps his name on any "collaboration" and sells the book. But they're still entertaining reads. :)
DeleteThat's the thing with Abbi Glines' books, they have this pull on you that makes you question why but at the same time you just let it. Every book from both series is like a copy paste from each other in my opinion BUT a part of me devours these books for some reason.
ReplyDeleteLOL So true, Chai. Even knowing the flaws I can't help myself from going back for more. Abbi Glines does that to me. :)
DeleteI have not read Abbi Glines yet but I know that we have a few of her books on our shelves. I think my daughter added them but who knows, maybe I did. I can understand how you can enjoy a book even though they have some issues.
ReplyDeleteI started reading Abbi's Rosemary Beach series 5-6 years ago and was so hooked. And I've read some of her other series as well. They really can be cheesy but they are so perfect for easy escapism. :)
DeleteI needed this review in my life today. You've summed up EVERYTHING I feel about Abbi Glines books in one succinct review. But! You're a braver lady than me when it comes to this series because I couldn't handle it. I quit after book 3, I think. :)
ReplyDeleteLOL You're probably the smarter one, Nicci! But I just couldn't help myself. I still get so pulled in. And I have to admit, they really are kind of perfect right now when I can't seem to concentrate on anything else.
DeleteSorry to hear this wasn't a better read for you, but glad to hear you're enjoying the series for what it is. Sometimes a bit of cheesy escapism is exactly what we need, lol.
ReplyDeleteLOL And that's just what it is, Suzanne. Cheesy drama. But it's totally hitting the spot for me right now when I can't seem to concentrate on anything else.
