The Sunday Post #201

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Caffeinated Book Reviewer.
It's a chance to share news - a post to recap the past week on your blog,
showcase books and things we have received, and share news about what is
coming up on your blog in the week ahead. You can find the info here:

  • I don't even know what to say this week. I mean, there's so much happening, things are changing daily, and the news is frightening and grim. What is there to say beyond we're all going through the same thing in varying degrees.
  • The Husband and I just completed our second week of working from home. We've already settled into routines and developed a new kind of normal. We get started early, take a mid-morning walk, have lunch together, and take another afternoon or evening walk. I have found that sitting in a different desk chair all day is wreaking havoc on my back so I've laid off the walks for now and have instead started doing stretching exercises using YouTube videos. Gotta get creative.
  • It's hard not to get dragged down by the constant bombardment of news. I try to balance staying informed but also stepping away from it before it feels overwhelming. (Well, even more overwhelming.) I'm trying to find more ways to have quiet time, occupy my mind, and provide calm distraction. Yesterday I took a nap, gave myself a manicure, and did some coloring (I love the Colorfy app). What do you do for distraction?
  • Speaking of distractions, I decided I wanted to do some jigsaw puzzles. And guess what... I can't find any! What is available on Amazon (which isn't a lot because apparently everyone had the same idea) won't ship for weeks. Same with Walmart and Target - out of stock or delayed shipping. I'm not really willing to go into the store for something so unnecessary. But it's turned into a total mission and now I desperately want puzzles. LOL
  • This week's 80's music fix... isn't from the 80's at all. Geronimo by Sheppard only came out a few years ago (5? 6?) and it just makes me happy. What better reason to share it today?

How was your week? Any new books? Any news to share?
I'd love to hear about it!

  1. Yeah! Glad you nabbed the Avery Flynn book. I listened to the first two books in that series, and really enjoyed them. I loved the second even more than the first. I enjoyed that Amy Andrews series too. Me + Sports + Romance is usually a successful recipe. I saw people on Twitter saying they could not get puzzles. Hey, hooray for the puzzle industry. I have always loved them, but, space. Hang in there and take care!

    1. I'm pretty sure i already have Awk-weird so I'm excited to try them both. They look so light-hearted and fun. I think it was Deanna whose review I saw of the Amy Andrews book. It stuck with me and then this week I saw it for free. The universe wanted me to have it. LOL I finally found me some puzzles on eBay (first time I'd been on eBay in a decade LOL) and hopefully they'll arrive at the end of the week. :)

  2. So ... this is all I have been talking about on Twitter, so forgive the repetition. I ordered a cocktail shaker, stemless wine glasses, and ahome highlighting kit from Walmart and instead they sent me... a 1000 piece dog puzzle. At first I thought it was a gift from a friend but then I realized that it was a mistake. But we love the puzzle!

    1. Well, I'm rarely on Twitter so it's all new to me. :)
A dog puzzle is a far cry from the cocktail shaker. LOL Hopefully they're resending the good stuff while you pass the time with the puzzle. With all that's going on now, those wine glasses are a necessity! Haha.

  3. I've been on break but start teaching remotely this week. My classes have a set schedule, so it shouldn't be to hard to settle in. I've been hiding out in my house and should definitely get out a bit more. Stay safe and happy reading!

    1. Fingers crossed that the remote teaching goes smoothly this week.
I'm actually perfectly happy staying inside at home but I do force myself to go out and talk some walks and get fresh air. LOL

  4. My daughter is working on a puzzle right now. My mom has always done puzzles so she had a bunch and she gave me one when I dropped off groceries last week. I can't believe that they are sold out in stores right now. Crazy!

I am so glad that working from home is working for you, except for that chair! I don't have the same software at home as I have at the office and I didn't have a comfortable place to work so I found it to be more of a challenge than I expected.

Take care of yourself and have a good week!

  5. I've been playing Animal Crossing a LOT! I have kind of a similar routine-get up, do some work, take the dogs for walk, have lunch, work for a bit more, play some animal crossing, check emails... Its become pretty routine. Oh, and our governor gives a 2:00 address that I tune into! We in Ohio call it "Wine with DeWine".

    1. I keep seeing everyone talk about Animal Crossing and I have no idea what it is. I mean, I get that it's a game but beyond that... no idea. LOL But if it's helping pass the time and keep everyone entertained... then perfect timing! :)

"Wine with DeWine" - I love it. :)

  6. I've been working on this one puzzle for over a week now - it's impossible! But it's a nice break from reading 24/7.

  7. Sounds like y'all have a good routine going! I also wish I had a better chair for working at home. It wasn't an expense that seemed worth investing much in, since I used to spend so little time sitting at my desk. But now!

Stay safe! We will get through this!

    1. I had to go into the office very briefly on Thursday and when I mentioned the back issues to my boss he looked horrified and asked if they should buy me a chair for home. LOL Um, no, but thank you. I don't expect a new chair. LOL But he's pretty awesome that way.

  8. Have you tried any bookstores in your area? They often have puzzles. There are also some puzzle apps you can try.
Or you can have a puzzle made from a favourite photo through several online companies.

Wishing you a great reading week and good health

    1. Thanks Shelleyrae. I have seen puzzles in bookstores before but I'm trying not to go out unless absolutely necessary. And, despite wanting a puzzle, it hardly qualifies as a need at this point. LOL

  9. I grabbed that Avery Flynn book a couple of weeks ago. I also bough Awk-Weird and a couple of her other ones because they were on sale. I'm all about packing my kindle full of on sale and freebie books at the moment... It's like an (un?) healthy coping mechanism for all the scary crazy misery at the moment.

Glad you've settled into a new normal! We're still trying to find that balance. Here's to another week of it, I guess!

    1. I think I have Awk-weird, too. They seem like light and fun reads which should be perfect for now. Hope this week brings a sense of routine, Nicci!

    1. LOL Yep, Mission Puzzle. :) I swear I only want them so badly because all of a sudden I can't get them. Always want what you can't have, right?

  11. That's reassuring to hear you and your husband are settling into a routine. I really hope we start falling into some of that this week. I just started a puzzle that don't like. It's really pretty but it has the weirder shaped pieces that I'm not caring for. I would be happy to mail it to you if you want!! Just send me your mailing address. :)

    1. Oh my goodness, you are so sweet to offer that! But I imagine the shipping cost would be even more than the puzzle so I wouldn't expect that. Eventually I'll cave and actually go into a store for necessities and I'll look for a couple then. But thank you so much for the offer, Jennifer!! :)

  12. That's great that you and your hubby are settling into such a comfortable routine. I'm getting into a decent routine as well, but I agree that sitting in the same chair all day is getting painful. I should have snagged my chair from work before they sent us all remote, lol. OMG, I tried to get jigsaw puzzles too and couldn't believe that they were as hard to come by as toilet paper. I guess everyone is looking for distractions.

    1. My husband went into his office over the weekend and brought back a chair just like his and it's so much better. My better is infinitely grateful. :)

I finally found puzzles on eBay! Hallelujah! LOL

  13. My biggest distraction has come in the form of video games. I downloaded Animal Crossing for my Switch a few days ago, and I think I've developed a problem. 😂 But I'm trying to get outside when I can, too, and enjoy the nice weather.

  14. I'm so glad you have been able to work at home and set a routine. We have been on spring break and drifting. Hopefully we will get a bit better routine with classes starting again this week. When we moved last summer I got us both good office chairs which is working out great now.

The only different places I can think of for puzzles is ebay or thrift stores. We have a bunch but some are sort of baby ones. We have a HUGE supply of board games and I hope we will be playing them more soon. The distraction thing is important. I've been reading more ebooks as it's harder to multi-task with them than audio.

Stay safe, healthy and happy reading!

  15. I'm on week 2 of working from home, and it looks like I have at least two more to go. My work friends have started a fitness challenge via our Apple Watches, so that has been motivating me to keep moving. My biggest distraction has definitely been Netflix. I can't get enough of the Tiger King show!

  16. Aw, I hope you can find a puzzle somewhere soon. I'd love to do one, but my cat would not be cool with that. LOL I'm trying to get outside when I can - take walks or just sit on the porch and read. I'm glad you and your husband have a bit of a schedule/routine for your work days. That's helpful I'm sure!

  17. The news is overwhelming, right? I had a break because we were gone for a 4-day weekend and our place doesn't have wi-fi so it was an excellent excuse to unplug from all the constant doom and gloom. I was actually able to concentrate and finish a book! I have a ton of Charles Wysocki puzzles. I actually collected them when I was puzzle obsessed a few years back. If you want I can send you one. Just say the word. They're a lot of fun. Take care and stay safe, Tanya! :)

    1. Fours days of being unplugged and away from it all sounds pretty much perfect right now. Thank you so much for offering to send me a puzzle, Rachel. Consider yourself virtually hugged. :) I actually took the advice of another commenter and checked eBay. Jackpot. I bought four and they're supposed to be here by the end of the week. But thank you. I appreciate your kindness.

  18. It is really stressful right now, so true. I think the fact that we have so little control over anything- or any real information- i mean there are so many unanswered questions about what's coming- that it makes it hard. Glad you and hubby have a good routine though! That seems like a blessing at this time. :)

I find myself having to ration my Twitter time because I think my blood pressure spikes haha whenever I see the latest bad news!

Puzzles are good. I found myself the other day doing some Search and Find puzzles out of a book one of my daughters got when she was little. Hey whatever works right? :)

    Love the Prince quote.

    1. Yes, the new routine is definitely helping. It's establishing a new normal so not everything feels foreign. The word find puzzles sound fun. And the Prince quote felt pretty timely.

  19. I distract myself with art and watching my favorite shows. I draw or paint or make book edits. And then I rewatch some of my favorite series that I haven't watched in a very long time. They put me in a good mood. Sadly, reading's not an option for me because I couldn't pay attention much to the story without getting reminded of what's happening. I still read but I get distracted a lot so I keep putting the book/s down and not being able to finish it.

    1. Reading has been hard for me, too, Chai. Thankfully we've both found other outlets to distract ourselves.

  20. Aww man! Hate you can't find a puzzle anywhere. My kids and I just put one together and were wanting to do another one, but I forgot to look when I went to Walmart a few days ago. And like you, I try not to go to the store often. It's crazy that shopping for food is so dangerous. Anyhow, good luck on your mission!! Oh, and I hope your back improves quickly!

    1. Yeah, popping out to a store on a whim for just an item or two is something I miss. Now I try to not go at all, using pick-up or delivery, and only going inside a store when absolutely necessary. So weird.

    1. Had to get that out quick. Also maybe Zulily. Friend got some there, too. I did find a few on Amazon. I had to look through all of them to find some.
My daughter and I have been doing mid-morning walks. Sometimes we also do afternoon with my husband. It really does bring the spirits up.

I really want to read Parental Guidance.

    2. Thanks for the B&N tip! I actually hit the jackpot on eBay and now have 4 puzzles in route to my front door. :) But I'll still be checking out B&N and Zulily. The walks are great for just getting out of the house and getting some fresh air.

  22. I had wanted a puzzle for Christmas but Kevin didn't buy me one and I have such regrets for not just buying it myself because they are now like NINETY DOLLARS on Amazon!

I've been doing online workouts and Kevin's Oculus games - lots of slashing and shooting which feels cathartic lol

I'm having to back way off the news because it's destroying my faith in humanity. I never watched it all day or anything but just the hour or so was still too much. The things that come out - like sacrificing old people is more than I can handle with everything else going on.

    1. Right?! Getting a puzzle these days is just finding gold... and just as expensive. I finally hit up eBay (on someone's else's suggestion) and a couple should be arriving tomorrow. Thank goodness.

Yeah, the news is doing my head in. Robert watches just a bit in the evening to check the latest developments but I tune it out. Just wake me up when it's over, y'know?

  23. The news is definitely overwhelming. I also try to balance watching or reading the news, and just ignoring it a little for a view hours. Otherwise I don't think I can stay sane.
It's kind of funny to see how used we all have gotten to being able to order something and getting it the next day right?! I got something for our little girl and had to wait three days and I was just so frustrated. LOL!! But weeks is definitely way to long.
    Stay safe and happy reading.

    1. Right? Isn't that a wake-up call, Maureen? I am so used to Amazon Prime next day delivery. And because there are Amazon distribution centers in my city, sometimes I would even get same day delivery. So now having to wait is like a shock to the system. I have been so spoiled!
