The Sunday Post #13

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Caffeinated Book Reviewer.
It's a chance to share news - a post to recap the past week on your blog,
showcase books and things we have received, and share news about what is
coming up on your blog in the week ahead. You can find the info here:

It's been a good week and yet things were pretty silent at Girl Plus Books. I spent a lot of time getting caught up with everyone else's blogs - which resulted in ignoring my own. Yeah, one of these days I will find a balance but it sure hasn't happened yet. Does anyone else struggle with this? If I focus on consistent posts here I don't have the time to keep up with all the wonderful blogs I enjoy. But if I spend time reading and commenting everywhere else... well you see the dilemma. How do you strike a balance between the two? I'd love to hear any tips or some magical system you have in place that allows you to do it all. That exists, right?

Yesterday I met up with my younger sister to celebrate her birthday. I had purchased one of her gifts over a month ago which was, coincidentally, a Prince
t-shirt. Terri has been a huge fan of Prince since the 80's. His music provided the soundtrack to our teen years.

PHYSICAL COPIES:

Unpopular opinion time: I wasn't blown away by Throne of Glass and never continued with the series. When I was last chatting with my friend Hope and saying that maybe I should just realize that fantasy is not my genre, she swore that the Falling Kingdoms series would be different. I'm still unconvinced but the cover is quite pretty and sometimes that's a perfect reason to buy a new book. Amiright?

KINDLE:

Blurred Lines - Lauren Layne: Like I was supposed to resist this one for 99 cents on Amazon?

Dearest Clementine boxed set - Lex Martin: The entire trilogy was on sale for $4.99 and I'd just seen a blogger friend rave about it so I made it mine.

The Debt - Tyler King: This was offered to me for review by the publisher and it sounds right up my alley.

How was your week? Any new books? Any news to share?
Fill me in... I'd love to hear!

  1. Some weeks I am good with keeping up with posts and my own blog and some weeks I am terrible at keeping up with mine. I haven't found the balance either.

  2. Love that e-reading photo. So true! That's so interesting you got your sister a Prince shirt before hearing about his death. I'm sure she was upset over that - it's always hard to hear some you admire or were a fan of has passed, I'm sure!

I try and schedule ahead as much as I can so I know the blog is taken care of and then I can use that extra time to visit other blogs and comment. It doesn't always happen though. Sometimes you just have to keep going back and forth so you are keeping in contact with others but also posting every now and then.

    1. Yes, my sister was pretty shocked and upset over Prince. She actually just texted me a few minutes ago that she just bought the People magazine with him on the cover.

You're so clever to schedule posts ahead. That's probably a huge time saver. I think I'm going to try that and see how it works for me.

  3. It's hard to do both your own blog and comment on others so I feel you! I love the shirt you got for your sister-- such a sad week! Yay HIM! I don't think fantasy is my genre either

    1. Maybe one day I'll find that balance! Oh my gosh, I loved Him so hard! Now I'm dying to start reading Us. I totally need more Ryan and Jamie in my life.

  4. No, it's pretty hard to find a balance with the few hours you have to do both. Ideally, if I was a organized person, I would spend one day a week writing all my posts for the following week. And than that would free up time to visit other blogs during the week. But I'm far from organized. In fact I'm lazy enough to just to neither. So there's that. :P
Dearest Clementine is soooooooooooooo good. I can't believe I haven't finished the series.
HIM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Haha. Are you loving Wes and Jamie? They are my favourite. Seriously. Every week I reread a bunch of both the books. #noregrets

    1. The scheduling ahead thing sounds so ideal. But realistically when am I going to have the time to sit down and do several posts at once? That silly thing called work takes up vast amounts of time and they're funny about me blogging at my desk. LOL Ooh, didn't know you'd already read Dearest Clementine! So excited for that one. OMG girl, I fell so hard for Jamie and Wes. Like, I am totally in love with them. I want Us like yesterday. I'm about to buddy read one with Sarah (have you read Reason to Breathe??) but Us may be after that.

    2. Yea, work sure the hell ruins life. God.
I read it sometime last year. Super good. Gave it a 4.5*(I believe).
Jamie and Wes are life! They are adorable and I want the to be real so I could creepily be around them 24/7. And Us is even better. Like how is the possible? I don't know or care. IT'S AMAZING!
I've heard it. Actually have had it on my Kindle for forever. Hope you ladies like it. I heard it's pretty good.

    3. Us is better??? OMG, I must prepare myself. And if they were real they'd be right there in Toronto with you. Y'all could totally hang out together. Now I'm jealous...

  5. Ha! There's no balance, I just don't sleep, so if that'll help you, Tanya...! I'm looking forward to your review of Him, aren't Jamie and Wes just the most adorable ever! And I have my first Ritchie book ready to be read any day now!

    1. *sigh* I was afraid that was the answer, Kei. LOL Unfortunately I love my sleep far too much to give any of it up. :) I lloved Him sooo much! Oh my gosh, Jamie and Wes were perfection. I hope to read Us very soon. Have you read that one? And I am super excited to hear what you think of Addicted to You!!! I adore Lily and Lo!

  6. It is so hard to find a balance, so, so hard. You'll get there one day, and when you do come get me. Lol.

    1. LOL Ah, so no words of wisdom. I am crushed. But when I find the magic answer you'll be the first to know.

  7. Loved Blurred Lines! It's a little tamer from her usual romances but it's the best friends to lovers trope that I really love so much. :D Hope you enjoy it! Happy reading!

  8. When you figure out the balance thing, share, will ya? I've been terrible at commenting and keeping up in general lately. I have so much on my plate right now (I know everyone can relate to that) with my daughter getting ready to graduate, band-related projects, spring cleaning before company arrives for graduation...well, you get the picture. I say this all the time - both as advice to others and myself - we can only do what we can do. I feel guilty, of course. But...
Love the Prince t-shirt! I bet your sister loved it too!
Nice haul of books, Tanya. I hope Falling Kingdoms works for you. But sometimes a genre just isn't for everyone. I can't wait to see what you thought of Him. :D
I hope this week has been wonderful. Guess what? It's snowing here. Again. *haha*

    1. So, no magic words of wisdom... but at least I know I'm not alone. :)
You definitely have a lot of your plate - I hope that things are getting done and aren't too overwhelming.
Yeah, I tell myself the same thing - I can only do so much - but sometimes that still doesn't seem like enough, does it? Ugh, always so hard on ourselves.
More snow?! Unbelievable! It hit 90 several days when I was in Orlando earlier in the week!
