The Sunday Post #202

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Caffeinated Book Reviewer.
It's a chance to share news - a post to recap the past week on your blog,
showcase books and things we have received, and share news about what is
coming up on your blog in the week ahead. You can find the info here:

  • Another week into the new normal. The Husband and I are pretty well settled into our new routines. We both work from home, have breakfast/lunch/dinner together, read, play backgammon... and just basically live our lives at home. Very little need to leave the house these days.
  • The Husband goes out for several walks a day but I'm much more content staying in. I've always been a bit of a hermit but now I'm realizing just how little I really need to go out. LOL I use YouTube for yoga/stretching/exercise videos so I get my exercise indoors. You know, where the A/C is. :)
  • I have a puzzle! I forget who it was last week that suggested I try eBay when I mentioned having trouble finding them, but that did the trick. Jackpot! I actually bought 4 or 5. One for my mom and the others for us. So far two have arrived and it's been fun to have another distraction. We also ordered a cornhole game and we've played that several times as well. I should note that instead of playing in the back yard, we set up the game in the foyer and hallway and play there. Haha!
  • We continue to have our Friday Night Driveway Picnics at my mom's house. This past Friday night my younger sister and niece joined in and we had a good time. We pick up some take-out on the way over, set up chairs (at least 6 ft. apart) on the driveway, and have dinner together. Then we talk or play trivia (I pull up questions on my phone) and just visit for a while. I know my mom enjoys the face to face company.
  • This week's 80's music fix is from DeBarge. Rhythm of the Night was probably their biggest hit and was even used in a movie. Does anyone remember The Last Dragon? It was so cheesy and campy and I absolutely loved it. (Hey Greg! That would be an awesome pick for your Movies That Suck feature. Just sayin'. ;-)

  1. Yay for The Guy on the Right 😍 I know you've seen my review for it and so you know just how much I loved it haha I hope you love it too! I also hope you're enjoying Where the Lost Wander. This quarantine period is also making me realise just how little I go out and I don't know whether to be embarrassed about that or not haha either way, I'm quite content being at home! I need to really start doing some movement though because I haven't exercised at all 😂 Have a great week ahead, Tanya!

    1. Hope you manage to find a puzzle, Cindy. I think we're all definitely getting creative with how we spend our time these days.

  3. Your driveway picnics sound like a wonderful way to touch base with your loved ones. Puzzles are a great way to pass the time. Was the pricing fair on eBay? Curious, since I know they are hard to find right now. I wish I could inspire myself to start running, but every time I think about going outside, the weather is not hospitable. Glad to hear you are getting by, and I hope you enjoy Guy on the Right. I loved it! So fun!

    1. I had no issue with the puzzle prices on eBay. They seemed fair and I didn't come across any that seemed to be gouging. Two of them arrived within 4 days. The others are still in route. It's been a fun distraction. I do not run... ever. LOL I am not in great shape and even if I was, I've just never had any desire to be a runner. Yoga, stretching, and milder exercise is more my speed. :)

  4. You really seem to be making the best out of this situation! I love your driveway picnic idea, and I've been thinking Tom and I need to break out our cornhole boards, too!

    1. We've played cornhole a couple times now and had fun. But the real competition has been backgammon. And we work on the puzzle each evening. So far we're staying entertained.

  5. I love the idea of driveway dinners! Your name for it is much catchier, though. ;) It's great that you're getting to be around family while maintaining social distancing. I've tried to start several puzzles during all of this, but with small children and cats it's impossible. Maybe when they're older? I also exercise indoors. I do PIIT28 and love it! However, we still take the kids and dogs on walks around the neighborhood, so I'm still going out, haha. We'll see once summer fully hits...

    1. The Friday Night Driveway Picnics have become the highlight of the week. LOL I think about where we're going to get take-out from, what I'm going to wear, I search for trivia games... it's quite the event. Haha!

  6. I love the driveway picnic ideas. Not seeing my family is definitely one of the things I'm struggling with the most. I wish they lived closed enough that we could do these picnics. Yay for scoring some puzzles too. I'm still looking for some as well so may try the eBay route myself.

  7. Yay for getting some puzzles! I love doing puzzles. I should drag out some. Glad to hear you got to spend some time with your family while being safe! Great idea. :)

I'm interested in hearing what you think of Gypsy King.

  8. I love how you are triumphing in the current normal. I'm glad the ebay worked out. I've used it for both buying and selling occasionally. I got the most of the same freebies. I'm still a moody reader.

Have another great week! Be kind and take care of yourself!

  10. We could definitely be hermits together. My life is a one hour daily walk outside, then cooking, doing puzzles while listening to music, and yoga. Cleaning and laundry when I can no longer avoid it. Trying to get back into reading. It's a little monotonous but I feel lucky that I can work from home.

  11. "You know, where the A/C is. :)" Haha I'd be the same probably if I lived South. But yeah as an introvert I'm not hating staying at home as much? It is nice to get some fresh air though- we're a lot cooler here at the moment.

Your Friday Night picnics in th driveway are a fabulous idea! I've been struggling with how to see my mom during all this- she's in a condo not far away but we've been keeping our distance obviously, dropping off groceries and stuf but not getting too close- that sounds like a fabulous way to spend time together.

Oh my gosh Debarge! Good call :) And ooh no I have NOT seen The LAst Dragon! At least I don't think so? I will definitely be checking it out, and thanks!!! I always need good recs for that feature... :)

    1. The driveway picnics have been a hit. Just yesterday I saw a YouTube video and the woman met several friends in a parking lot. They all parked a couple spaces apart, opened up the back of their SUV's and sat in the back, and just hung out for about an hour and talked. Where there's a will there's a way. :)

  12. Bwahaha you really are an indoor person Tanya! Be careful with your mom and family's gathering. The six feet distance might not be enough. Brilliant idea to find the puzzle on ebay!!! Stay safe.

  13. We are settling in as well. I'll admit to starting to struggle to find interesting recipes. Cooking three meals a day is no joke!

I totally agree about indoor exercise. This Texas heat can be way too much!

  15. The driveway picnics sound awesome! I'm sure your mom enjoys the company. We've just been hanging indoors, too. I get to work from home. Hope you love your new reads! Stay safe and happy reading!

Those driveway picnics are such a cute idea. I'm glad you're keeping up with them every week.

Your days sound like you have everything covered, and working from home is going well. Yay for finding some puzzles!! I really need to find some ways to get moving more too - without my dance classes, I lack motivation. I've never been a great solo exerciser. hah

    1. I didn't really exercise regularly before the isolation, but I was still a lot more active just by being at the office every day. It's way too easy to be totally stationary at home. So the YouTube videos help combat that. :)

Wishing you a great reading week and good health.

  18. LOL! I'm also using YouTube for my indoor workouts too but instead of the A/C, I used the bed. I've found some good workouts that involve the bed haha! AND YOU GOT RAGE AND RUIN!! I'm excited for you to read it!

  21. It’s surprising how easy it is to adjust to a new routine isn’t it? It sounds like a really nice way to spend your days. I’m like you, I don’t think I realised how much of a recluse I could become without too much of a struggle. I live alone, though, so my biggest problem is I’m not really speaking to anyone, weekends aren’t the thing I look forward to anymore. I’m jealous of your driveway picnic idea, what a great way to get together without getting too close together.mit must be lovely for your mom too.

    1. It really is, Becky. It’s crazy how quickly something new starts to feel “normal.” I don’t think I’d do as well if I were living alone. I mean, I’m not really leaving the house, but I still always have my husband here. I’m sure I’d feel much more isolated on my own. I hope you’re keeping in touch with family and friends in other ways. {{hugs}}

  23. I have found that I really enjoy my walks a lot more when I have been home all day. Of course, the weather is really nice right now and all of the flowers are blooming so it is just wonderful to be outside. I remember loving that El Debarge song! Have a great week and enjoy your new books.

    1. I need to start joining my husband on his walks instead of doing only exercise videos. The fresh air will do me good. It's just that it's already getting hot here (high of 86 today) so I have to get the walk in early.

  24. I think I've left my house twice a week for the past three weeks. Once a week to grab food and one random walk. We're technically allowed out once a day for a walk but I have no motivation. :(

I'm glad you guys have settled into a pattern that works for you! I must admit, it IS quite nice having breakfast, lunch and dinner together. Before all this, we'd only get dinner together Mon-Fri. :(

  25. I'm glad you're able to enjoy your quarantine time Tanya! I love playing games and have a ton of boardgames, but haven't had time to play them with my daughter underfoot. I don't have enough patience for puzzles, but am glad you were able to find some on ebay and are enjoying them. Your driveaway picnics sound like a lot of fun. Yay for Debarge! Great song :)
